Who: Fantine and Amy Pond When: Circa August 13 Where: Studio What: Photo Shoot Rating/Warning: Low/None Status: Complete!
Amy was looking forward to this next shoot. She looked forward to every shoot, really, but today was a good day. She could just feel it in her bones. No weird dreams, no unusual happenings around the County... The sun was shining and the birds were singing... all of that cliche crap.
Anyway, she showed up a few minutes early with her latte and sat in her chair, waiting for everyone else to start their fussing like they always did. Hair, make-up, clothes, et cetera.
Fantine was just happy to get out of the house. She was finally in good enough shape to work, and the fact that she’d been able to leave the house and sit in a car was exhilarating. She didn’t know any of the models at this shoot, but it was fine by her - she could meet new people as well as appreciate being somewhere that wasn’t a hospital bed or Jean’s attic eyrie. Not that she wasn’t grateful to Jean.
She came in slowly, still going a little gingerly. She was directed to a chair next to a pretty redhead, and waved hello before sitting down.
Amy perked up at the sight of the other woman. She sat up a little, put her phone back into her pocket, and turned to face her. “Hullo. I’m Amy Pond.” She said, holding her hand out for the other woman to shake. “I take it we’ll be working together today?”
“Yes.” Fantine smiled, shaking her hand. “My name is Fantine. I do apologise if I might make us go long today, though; this is my first shoot in some time. I was injured, and am what I think you call rusty.”
Amy shrugged her shoulders. “Don’t worry about me. I love the job. Even if the lights get a little hot.” She said with a smile and a wink. “I’m not in a rush today, my boyfriend’s working until late.”
Fantine smiled. “I am glad for that. During the time of madness, I was in a car accident and so I have not worked for almost two months. Some things you do not forget, but the little things will come back.” She smiled. “I am just glad to be able to breathe correctly again!”
Amy almost asked which time of madness? but the two months ago answered that question. She nodded, feeling sympathetic. Of course, she was lucky that these crazy things hadn’t had that much of an impact on her life. “I’m glad you’re breathing correctly, too.” She said, looking shocked about the seriousness of the other woman’s injury. Then again, she should have known about it, shouldn’t she?
“Punctured lung and shattered arm.” Fantine could laugh about it now. “I’m glad it was not worse. My beau has been watching over me like a hen, though - I told him I was going out and I expected him to begin to cluck.” Her tone was fond, though; she loved Jean. She was just glad for both their sakes that she could move around on her own power now.
“Wow.” Amy said, giving a low whistle. And then she laughed. “Mine’s a doctor. I imagine that if that sort of thing were to happen to me, he’d be way worse.” There was just a slight twinge of strangeness to think about John as her beau instead of her ex-husband. It made her feel warm and happy inside just to mention him.
“Oh, I am sure.” Fantine laughed. She liked that this lady had such a pleasant air about her. “Jean is in finance, so he doesn’t really know better. He just likes to look after me.” It was sweet. “We have a very long and complex history, but he looks after me and my daughter with his own life. I feel loved, and I daresay that is the important thing.”
“That’s sweet. The best always do.” Amy said, giving her a smile. “You’re a mother? I feel like I really should know all of this already. I guess I didn’t get the run-down before I came here today.” She added, feeling a bit sheepish.
“Not many people know about my daughter. It’s all right.” Fantine wasn’t entirely sure of who to trust, but at the same time, if she couldn’t trust the people she was to work with, who could she trust? “I had her in France many years ago, and she went to live with another. We only just found each other again.”
Amy gave a little nod. She couldn’t imagine being a mother, though she was one in the dreams. She figured if it was meant to happen in this world, it’d happen eventually. She had a lot of time. “I’m so glad that you found each other. That’s such a good story.”
“I thank this Valarnet.” Fantine smiled shyly. “Her papa - the man she came to call Papa, I mean - recognized me.” But she’d talked about herself so much. “I am sorry; I should ask about you. I regret that I am so uninformed due to injury and layoff; have you been in many things? I recognize your face, but I cannot place from where.” Hopefully this Amy would not think she was an amateur.
“Valarnet is pretty amazing.” Amy agreed with a nod and a smile. She shifted, folding one leg over the other toward the woman as they spoke. “I just finished a long series of commericals for Tampax.” She said, “and before that I was the cover for MakeMeNew cosmetics.”
“Ah! I think it is the cosmetic campaign that I remember, yes.” Fantine smiled. “I have not been in any product campaigns over here yet, only done runways for designers. In Europe I was one of the two faces of Christian Constant, which is a famous chocolatier in Paris, where I come from.” She’d enjoyed that campaign!
“That’s amazing. I’ve been doing mostly commercial work, though I love getting together with my friends for art shoots.” Amy gave the other woman a smile. “Runway work… jealous! I’ve never had the chance. Though, I think I’d love it.”
“I think the runways are perhaps more common in Europe than here. Or I just have met designers.” Fantine smiled. “I would be delighted to introduce you to some?” Red-headed women were so striking. She couldn’t imagine that this Amy wouldn’t find some work because of it.
“Yes, I don’t know that many designers,” Amy admitted almost sadly, then broke into a grin at the suggestion. “I’d love that! I was thinking about having some sort of a party at my place. I don’t know, just because? Perhaps I can give you an invite, and you can invite your friends along?”
“That sounds excellent, if you do decide to have this party. I don’t know that many designers, but I have made a few friends since arriving here.” Fantine broke off as the makeup and hair people began to arrive.
“Yes. I’ll let you know. It’d be wonderful to get all of my friends in the industry together for a shindig.” Amy grinned, then turned to the make-up and hair people as they came in to doll up the girls.
