Zelda wasn’t sure what the fundraiser was. She knew that she was signed up for it, she’d told the organizer that she’d be here, but after a fourteen hour day of shooting on the new movie, she was exhausted. She’d double-booked herself. But she’d sent her PA out to get her a dress, and had hair and make-up do up her face and hair so she could make an appearance at the charity, sign a check, then get out before 10pm. She had to film in the morning.
Winston was tired, having been working nonstop for days since the bodyswap’s enforced vacation,. And then there was this fund raised, a family obligation, an old one, and nothing he could ignore. So he was here, looking dapper, dressed fine, and had already signed a nice fat check, and was wandering around, wondering how long before he could retreat.
When he spotted a familiar face, he squinted, then headed to her.
“Miss Zelda?” He smiled as he held out his hand. “Winston Frost, Frost Enterprises. I’ve seen you on the Valarnet.” He said the words softly.
“Mister Frost! What a pleasure.” Zelda said, stepping forward and taking his hand to shake it. She was smiling brightly, able to cover how tired she felt a bit by putting it on thick, looking like a true movie star. “How are you this evening?”
Winston smiled and shook her hand, then kissed it. Old school, gentlemanly, was his way. “How are you, madame?” He smiled at her. “I’m doing well. enjoying watching many people be silly.”
“That seems to happen a lot at these things.” She gave him a little grin, then turned to look over her shoulder. “Mrs. Johnson over there? She hates her husband. So whenever she comes to these things she gets as drunk as possible and makes a complete fool out of herself. It’s wonderful to watch.”
Winston nodded. “And James over there, young trust fund idiot that he is, has already hit on six women, two of them who were married.” he shook his head.
“Ah to be young or old and stupid. No, I will pass.”
Zelda laughed. “Emphasis on the stupid.” She grinned. “I’m enjoying being young, but that’s a bit much for me. I’ll take my men without wedding bands, thanks.”
Winston chuckled. "Always a good idea, my dear. But how have things been with you?"
“Really good. My new career is really taking off. I’m starring in another movie right now.” She was grinning brightly, though a bit more of the tired eyes came through. “...we’re going to be filming for twelve weeks, so I’m pretty busy.”
“Sounds like an interesting and good situation. I hope things go well.” He nodded to her. “If I can help, let me know.”
“Thank you. I’ll definitely let you know.” She said, then sipped from her champagne flute. “I’m exhausted actually, and wondering how long I have to linger before I can slip away.” She added, almost playfully.
“A half hour. Usually. Then one can make one’s regrets and escape. Unless there is a speech, then one must wait until then.” He sighed. “I hate these things when there are speeches.”
Zelda gave a little nod, smirking into her drink. “I hate the speeches, too.” She admitted, though only loud enough for the two of them to hear. “I’m dropping a couple thousand on this stupid thing. Isn’t it enough that I’m giving them money? Do I have to sit and listen, too?”
Winston smirked at her. “It makes them feel important, and lets them pretend they are somehow doing something formal and all businesslike. I prefer most times to just anonymously contribute to things, but, sometimes one must do this sort of thing.”
He grinned at her.
“Oh, absolutely. Have to show up every once in awhile. Can’t let them forget your face.” She gave him a little wink, then set her champagne glass down on the tray of a passing waiter. “On that note… it’s probably time for me to say my good nights.”
“Then I hope you have a very good night, Miss. And perhaps I will see you at the next such event.” Winston nodded and began to move off.
“I’m sure you will.” Zelda gave him a warm smile and a wave, then turned to go say good night to whoever it was necessary to say goodbye to, and head home. Hopefully she could get a few hours’ sleep before getting up to film in the morning.
