"You're not in the Army anymore?" James asked, watching the man as he talked. He knew that he might already have more information than the nosy neighbors. "I don't think I would do well in the Army, or any branch really." There were a variety of reasons for it. He didn't like to be dirty, he didn't love being shot at, and he had a bigger interest in boys than girls, all of which he thought were pretty obvious just looking at him. His parents also would have panicked and talked him out of it.
"I do need to get to the gym more often." As they hit the sidewalk, he pointed out some of the men doing pull-ups on the bars along the beach. The path was littered with exercise equipment, and men who loved to show off well oiled pecks. Those were really not James' type, although he appreciated a nice six pack. "I can do maybe one of those, and that's a big maybe."
