Did you get swapped with a friend or a stranger?
Who: Alice Cullen and Thor
When: After the bodyswap
Where: Store
What: Shopping, meeting!
Rating/Warning: Low/None
Status: Complete
Thor was out, and shopping. These days, he had people offering to shop for him, and he tried not to take advantage of that. It made him leery, really, other people wanting to do these things for him, and it seemed the sort of thing that could separate one from one’s humanity. Or Asgardianity. Or whatever it was he had. In any case, is disturbed him a little. So it was that he was out at a all you need store, a newborn competitor to the other box stores, all of which blended together after awhile.
Alice liked getting out of her house. She felt a little less awkward now she was back in her own body, and was enjoying her own... powers. It felt like there were more now. She was Dreaming again, having been off the crazy amounts of stimulants she’d been on before the body swap.
Hence, shopping. She needed some of those 8 hour energy drinks, and possibly some monsters, red bull, whatever. Keep awake, keep the dreams away.
Thor smiled as he nodded to the lady, pausing before a stand of various energy drinks. He enjoyed them sometimes, in smoothies, especially. He glanced at her again then asked quietly. “Do you recommend a particular one, ma’am?”
“I’ve been told that these are the best,” Alice said, motioning toward the 8 Hour Energy ones. “But I switched bodies before I had a chance to try them out.” She moved over and grabbed a handful of them, then tossed them in the basket that she carried. She went for some sugar-free Red Bull next.
He added a few of them to his own basket. “I keep trying to keep up, but when the bodyswap happened, I didn’t want to pour it into her system.” He nodded.
“Did you get swapped with a friend or a stranger?”
“A stranger. It was in front of the energy drinks at another supermarket.” Alice said. She was carrying her heavily laden basket as if it weighed nothing. Perhaps a bit surprising for a girl of her size. “A man, and I think it surprised my hu- my br-...” She frowned. “Anyway, I think I messed some things up while I was in his body.”
It was a bit surprising, but Thor knew the dreams did wild things. “That can happen. I was lucky in who I switched with, and even so it might have gone badly.”
“You were switched with someone you knew, then?” Alice asked, glad to take the subject of conversation off of herself. It was hard to think about it all. Hard to wrap her brain around. And she was so sick of Dreaming.
“Oh yes. The fiance of a friend. Someone I knew a little at least.” He smiled at her. “It was weird, and disturbing, but I managed to survive the week. Now to head back to work, soon.” He nodded.
“Well, it’s good to hear that someone survived the week without making too many problems for himself.” She said, giving him a sad smile. “Hopefully no irreparable damage was done for the rest of us.”
“I will hope so. What happened when you were changed?” Thor was worried and concerned now.
“Well... it’s a really long story, actually. I think I may have upset things with someone I care about very deeply.” Alice said, trying not to get into too many details. Some people might think she was sick for falling in love with her adopted brother.
“Then go to them and tell them everything.” He sighed and poked her gently in the shoulder. “Only honesty can mend a broken faith.
Alice shook her head. “No. I can’t. It would ruin everything.” She turned her attention back to the shelf and grabbed another energy drink to put in her basket. “...I’d lose him completely, I’m sure.”
“Why do you think so? I do not think a lie can sustain a relationship, milady.” He smiled warmly.
“He’s my brother.” Alice admitted. It felt so good to get it out there. “He’s my adopted brother, and in my Dreams we’re... together. And I haven’t told him about it. When I was a man, in the other body, I sort of... let him think that I was there for... you know.” She paused. It was awkward. “...anyway, I think I just... wanted him to be jealous.”
Thor canted his head, considered her words, then asked one question. “By blood? Or by adoption?” Of course, she answered that a moment later. “Then there is nothing shameful in what you feel. Adopted siblings often come to fall in love. “ He smiled softly. “Such feelings are only human, madame. And we are all human, no matter what the dreams make us.”
“It’s the dreams that make me... Oh, I don’t know.” Alice said, lifting a hand to rub at her eyebrows. It was so confusing. “I’m pretty sure he just thinks I’m a freak. And maybe I am. Maybe I’m just some crazy freak, dreaming crazy things about my brother--my whole family! Vampires. It’s nonsense.”
Thor smiled softly. “The worlds within the dreams are real, Miss. This I can tell you.” He did not say how, yet.
Alice shook her head. She didn’t like that idea. “I don’t want to sparkle.”
“There is no guarantee you will gain all the characteristics of your other self. Many times, people do not.” He nodded to her.
“I think I’ve gained enough from the dreams already.” She said, giving a little sigh and turning her attention to the basket of energy drinks in her arms. “Aside from the physical changes, I mean.” She’d already grown more pale, stronger, faster, more resilient.
“I’m sorry.” He sighed. “I fear I cannot say the physical changes will stop, but mental and emotional, those you can choose to accept or reject.”
“That’s a bit easier said than done. I’m a fairly hormonal teenage woman. My emotions are out of control sometimes.” She admitted, giving a little laugh. “The dreams are just... and I don’t know if it’s the Dream bleeding into my real life, or if I’m starting to actually feel things.”
Thor nodded, wincing. “I’m sorry.”
“Memories and dreams merge somewhat with real life. They become things we remember as real. It’s hard to reject, but it can be done, if you want to bad enough.”
“...I don’t know if I want to bad enough.” Alice finally admitted it. She was fond of the way that he made her feel. She didn’t want to reject those feelings. She just... wanted them reciprocated. She wanted the Jasper from the dreams.
“The you must have patience. For sometimes a dreamer will not dream at the same pace. If you do not want it, then perhaps you must play the long game.” He nodded to her.
Alice gave a little nod. “I hate waiting.” She said, softly. “But I’ll have to.”
He offered her his hand. “But if you need to talk, and if you need to hear about one who has dreamed, then call me.” He smiled. “I’m Thor Odinson, and i’ll be glad to help you.”
“I know.” Alice said, reaching a hand out to shake his. She went rather pink and grinned. “I mean, I know who you are. I’m Alice. Alice Cullen.”
“A pleasure to meet you Alice. “ He shook her hand, and nodded to her. “Welcome, my friend.”
“Thank you.” She gave him a smile. “Well, I’m going to head home and drink so many energy drinks that my skin starts to turn green,” she said, playfully.
Thor laughed. He nodded to her. "Be well, then, my friend."
“You, too.” Alice gave him a wave, then headed off to finish her shopping.
