They were no closer to finding out the truth, but no one had thought an indefinite stay at the hospital was ever an option. It was time for Frodo Baggins to go home. A specialist would take it from here.
"Well, at least we've ruled out a few things," Frodo said, as he limped through the door and entered the harsh sunlight. Yes, limped. The strange cold pain in his shoulder cut through him like icy lightning with every bump and step.
Merry was silent. His mind was busy at work, as he considered what the next few weeks would bring. He'd have to make a lot of room in his schedule, not that he wasn't willing to, but it wouldn't be easy. And he was worried. Very worried. His cousin was so pale. The symptons didn't make sense.
Of course, there was always the possibility this was all in his cousin's head. But he was trying not to entertain that.
He helped Frodo into the car.
Frodo squeezed his eyes shut. He rubbed them with his good hand, the one that still worked.
Merry got into the driver's seat. He buckled up.
Frodo sighed. "Merry, there's something I think I should tell you."
"...What?"
"You'll probably think I'm crazy, but I would appriciate it if you would hear me out anyway. Have you... read or heard anything... about people in the area having strange dreams?"
Merry nodded. And swallowed hard. "You've had one?"
Frodo was quiet for a moment, as he strugged to buckle his own seatbelt.
"More than one?" Merry asked.
"Quite a few, actually," Frodo replied. "I've met some people... who've been having similar dreams. They've been trying to tell me that there's something to all of it, but I haven't believed them. Until now."
"Until now?" Merry repeated. He gulped again. "Why now?"
"Because.... the night before I woke up like this. The pain in my shoulder. I deamt I was... stabbed... in the exact same place."
