Who: Jessica Drew and Carol DAnvers What: Jess quits her job, then they do a drug bust When: Recent Where: their place, some cocaine place Status: complete Rating: PG-13
Jessica didn’t know what she was thinking when she had gone into work and promptly realized she couldn’t do this anymore. She decided to go part time at the lab. Then she went to find out what it took to get a bounty hunters license in the state of California. After that she came home. “Carol?” she called out.
“Mmm?” Carol answered, looking up from the couch with a cat in her lap, some old comedy on the tv. She even had on fuzzy slippers and a robe, and her hair was up in a towel.
She looked a bit sheepish about the whole thing. “I.. might have quit my job. But I think I’m going to get another one. I mean I am but.. still.”
“You … quit your job?” Chewie was unceremoniously dropped on the ground as Carol got to her feet and rushed over. “As in resigned? Quit? Finito?”
“Uh.. well.. yeah. I mean I told them that I was only going to work one or two days a week because I wanted to do something else. My work is important but.. I can’t help but think I’m supposed to be doing something else.” Jess glanced over and hoped that Carol didn’t look too upset.
“Is it not...fulfilling?” She dropped her arms to her side, then reached over to take Jess’s. “I’m not going to be pissed at you. Confused, mostly.”
She looked completely relaxed when Carol said that she wasn’t going to get pissed. Relieved in fact. “It’s not that. I love my job but every dream I have, I’m this bounty hunter and I’m in the Avengers and taking down bad guys. And going into a lab isn’t the same.”
“You’re still taking down bad guys,” she pointed out, sighing. “But I think I know what you mean. Less immediate gratification. And a lot less exciting.” Carol didn’t know what to make of this new development. It was shaking up the little world she’d been building.
Jess nodded a little. “It’s not that I want to go out there and kick some guys in the balls. I mean I don’t even know if I’d be any good at it in a practical sort of way. But in my dreams.. I’m good. Who doesn’t want to be a bounty hunter?” Come on. It was awesome.
“You’re really good. I’ve seen the way you fight.” Carol smiled reassuringly. “And you’ve got a huge advantage with your powers. Especially the pheramones.”
She looked pleased at her girlfriends praise. Hopefully less scared that she’d just quit her job. “Right. I can do this. I can totally do this. Or at least give it a try and if I fail awfully, grovel for my job back. You sure you’re not mad?”
Carol looked around the apartment. “Well we’re in no danger of losing the place, but we’re going to have to figure out how to actually cook.” Carol could cook for herself, but usually just went for take out or something. “At least until you start rolling in bounties.” There was a nagging fear of Jess getting hurt, but she also knew the woman could handle herself. If she could fight supervillains she sure as hell didn’t need her girlfriend hovering over her. Literally.
“I’m sure that I can scrounge up something to eat.” She didn’t actually mind learning to cook. Jess liked to cook, even if she wasn’t great at it. She wasn’t awful either. Just average. Hopefully no one was going to get hurt but she could take care of herself. Honest. “Thanks for backing me up on this.”
"Of course I’m going to back you up on it.” Maybe Jess was embracing the other her. That wasn’t entirely a bad thing though Carol felt guilty for being happy about that.
Jess wanted to embrace more of her other self. Definitely. It was just hard because of the things she’d seen. The other her was so angry and got screwed over so much. Nothing like that ever happened to this Jess. “You’re the best. Want to help me fill out forms?”
“Where do we start? Do you get to wear some kind of uniform? You should emphasize your assets. How about I lend you my Ms. Marvel costume?” She flashed a grin.
She couldn’t help but snicker slightly. “I’m not wearing my uniform to hunt bad guys. Can you imagine? No one would take me seriously. I think you wear your own clothes.” As far as she knows. “They have to run a background check.”
“That shouldn’t be a problem, should it?” She didn’t think of anything in Jess’s history, or her own, that might get in the way. She already assumed they’d run a check on the person Jess was living with.
Shaking her head, Jess looked quite confident. “Nah. I’ve never done anything that bad. I mean nothing to get me arrested or anything. No illegal activities... that they can prove.” She wiggled her eyebrows at her girlfriend.
“No secretly selling genetic secrets to the enemy?” Carol tapped Jess’s nose with her finger tip. “I’m on to you, Jessica Drew. I’ve got my eyes on you.”
The look on her face suggested that she was both teasing but might actually be serious. “Would I ever do something like that? Don’t answer that question. Quick let me polish my halo.”
“You do not have a halo.” She pinched Jessica in the butt. “A tail and horns. But not a halo. Do you need to pass any classes? Or weapons training?”
Jess squeaked loudly and batted at Carol’s hands. “Hush. They mostly want to see what I can do on the field. I’ve been training a bit, but I could use some help if you wouldn’t mind?”
“What do you need.” She squeezed Jess’s guns, and kissed her. “Aside from more of a work out.”
Smirking against Carol’s lips, she slid her arms around her. “I can’t do anything without you distracting me out of my clothes, young lady.”
“Is that a complaint?” she asked. Carol flicked her tongue at Jess’s lips. “Do we ever go anywhere? What kind of training do you want? ….physical?”
She shook her head as quick as she could. “God no. No complaints here. Mmm.. yeah. Physical.” Jess smirked again.
“We could set up some weights..targets...?” Carol smiled innocently.
“Weights and targets.. that would be good.” Man she was being really distracting. “Practice first. Then sex. Probably in that order.”
Carol’s grin grew wider, Jess’s tone and actions making it hard to focus on what they were planning.. “I’ll lug some weights out to that target area I set up. And some blankets. I love when you get frisky and seducy. Which is a word.”
They were both awful at trying to distract the other. “Okay, I’ll go get changed and we can do some practicing.” She laughed and shook her head, kissing Carol soundly before turning to go up to their room so that she could change.
Something twisted around in Carol's gut as she watched her girlfriend ascend the stairs. She thought about her conversation with Remy, and about her dreams. She tried to imagine a life without Jess, without her powers, and without flight. She didn't think she could live without any of them.
She wondered what a ring would look like on Jess's finger, and promptly banished that thought. “Well hurry up!”
“I’m hurrying!” she called from the room. It only took her a second to get ready. “Okay. Let’s go kick some ass. Taking down bad guys.”
“Do you want to kick some real ass?” Carol tilted her head, looking Jess over as excitement at the prospect bubbled over.
“Well yeah. I can’t just be nice and ask the bad guys to please come with me to jail.” That would so not work. Jess grinned. “I’m ready to kick some ass.”
“Lets find some bad guys to beat up.” Carol took Jess’ hand and tugged her towards the door. “Maybe bust up some drug runners.
Music to her ears. Jess took Carol’s hand and let her lead the way. “Are we going to find real bad guys?”
“Real bad guys.” She nodded at her car. “Drive, or alternate means of transport?”
She could do this. Because she had no other choice. Not to mention that if she wanted to do this for a living, she needed to figure out how to do it. “Alternate, I think.”
“Hop on,” she said. “It wouldn’t look dignified if I carried you like you’re in distress.” Carol patted her shoulders. “Besides, that’ll free a hand of yours up...”
Jess rolled her eyes playfully and then hopped up onto her girlfriends back. Because that would be so much better. “All the more reason to feel YOU up, my dear.”
She reached behind herself to adjust Jess, which involved several long moments of groping her rear end. “Hold on tight.” Then she shot into the air.
It was an actual wonder that the two of them got anything done. Jess hung on tightly, letting Carol take her to the best place to catch bad guys. She’d done this so many times, she finally was used to it.
“Coming in hot,” Carol announced, dropping them into the middle of a hotbed of men, armed with guns, cutting cocaine.
Wow. This was definitely coming in hot. Taking a deep breath, Jess went for one of the guys with the guns. Better to make sure the guns were taken away first. She kicked the guy as hard as she could and then zapped him. Maybe some pheremones would help?
Carol grinned and picked up a table, smashing it over someone’s head. What, she wanted to have fun too! “Aww, look they’re making a run for it.”
Jess found no reason that her girlfriend couldn’t kick some ass too. She let the pheremones go, hoping to effect most of the men and have them do whatever she asked. Meanwhile she zapped another guy and hit a guy in the face. “This is fun.”
“Think you can make those two guys make out,” Carol joked, stepping between Jess and a man firing a gun.
She laughed a little and then made sure the pheremones were covering the two men. “Kiss each other,” she ordered. “Please. It will make me so happy.” And since they were so in love with her, they did just that. That would keep them busy until she could deal with some of the other ones.
“I’m so glad you have control over that. Do you think they notice they’re not in control, or just don’t care?”
“It’s hard to say. Not sure that I care much. It might be more amusing if they know they’re not in control but can’t do anything about it.” Maybe she had a slightly sinister touch. Zapping the last guy, Jess finally knocked the two guys kissing out and onto the floor. “That went pretty well.”
“A little too easy. You definitely don’t need me.” She wrapped an arm around Jess. “I think you already graduated.”
“Yeah? Already? Thanks babe.” Jess kissed her soundly and gave her a hug. “Shall we go home? You can rub my back.”
Carol waggled her eyebrows. “Just your back?”
“Girl you’d better massage me everywhere.” She winked at her girlfriend and hopped up on her back again so that Carol could take her home.
“When you put it that way,” she replied, as she started to float up into the air. “How can I say no?”
