AJ was thrilled to be back in her own body. Her brother’s body was useful for some things, and terrible for others. She was glad she was able to sleep with her husband again, to fit into her clothes, to take a shower without feeling weird about touching her brother’s... parts. She was at work today, feeling really good about things, and restocking a barrel of apples at her stand.
Ash was out looking into some new diet ideas, mixing fruits with meats this time, and when he spotted the marketp, he came in, whistling, grinning and curious. He wandered about, wanting to gather different foods. He found an ice bag, a refrigerated one, that had been kept in the cold and he wandered.
And soon he had half a bag full of stuff. When he approached the apple table, he smiled. “Hello, miss!”
“Hello!” AJ said, turning at the sound of someone speaking. “How are you today?” She asked, finishing up with the apples she’d been stocking.
She was friendly, and that was nice. And she was pretty too! Cool! “I’m doing awesome! Say, what exactly sort of apples do you have?” He was curious and didn’t know them from any other, but anything he learned went into his brain... until it fell out again.
‘Ummm... we’ve got all the kinds.” AJ said, grinning. She moved around the booth with him, pointing out which apples were which, and which were best just for eating, which were good for applesauce, which went best in a pie.
He peered and listened and then nodded, picking several of different kinds. “Cool! You know amazing amounts about apples. Have you been doing this long?”
“Practically my whole life. It’s a family business. My brother and I run things for the most part now.” She said, giving him a grin. “What were you planning on doing with the apples? Just eatin’ or are ya gonna cook ‘em?”
“Cool!” He nodded, listening. “Eating mostly. Apple salad and fruit salad and apple and mixed fruit smoothies. I liked smoothies. They give me energy for exercise and feel good, too.” He smiled at her. “Sounds like you have a family legacy you like.”
He was just a ball full of energy. AJ gave a grin, and then a little laugh. “Well, we sure sell eatin’ apples.” She said, and started to collect some up for him. “It’s good. I love working with my family. Though, it’s not for everyone, I reckon.”
“Yeah. I would, but mom’s retired an dad...” He switched subjects. “So which kind is best for cooking, and which is best for salads?” Yes, new subject.
New Subjects were okay. AJ nodded. She could tell when someone didn’t want to talk about something. She moved over to the register and started to motion into the basket she’d gathered for him. “These are best for pies. These for eatin’ raw. And these are good for anything really. Tangy and sharp. They’d go well in any recipe.”
Ash kept careful notice of everything she said. He noted each use and how she said to use it, smiling. She kept a lot of information in her head and he liked it. When she was done, he spoke. “That’s pretty cool, thanks!”
“Sure.” AJ said, grinning. “I’m on Valarnet, if you have any other questions. I’ve got a ton of recipes and the like on my computer, so if’n you’re ever interested in tryin’ somethin’ new, that’s a good way to reach me.”
“Thanks! I’ll remember that! “ Being able to pull new recipes out of nowhere would help with girls, too! “Thanks.” He shook hands with her, then paid her, and bounced off.
