I think this place was abandoned awhile ago.
Who: Kitty and Dani What: Kicking some ass When: 8/3 Where: an old cerberus facility Status: complete Rating: PG for killer Capybaras. (no, really)
Kitty drove up to the ranch. Her bike was silent, as always. It would help them when they actually got to the target. She was wearing her new black leather outfit, with the shoulders bare, and her mask was in her pocket. The new wrist claws felt heavy, but familiar.
She looked around, wondering where Dani was. She didn’t want to sneak into the ranch. It seemed rude.
Kitty wasn't waiting long before Dani let herself out the front door of the office building. She'd been thinking about climbing down from the upstairs window like some kid breaking curfew, but that seemed a little too conspicuous.
Plus, it was kind of ridiculous. It wasn't like she was sneaking out for some hot date, and it wasn't like Wrex actually had a curfew she had to follow.
She was wearing a trenchcoat over an outfit that seemed to be made of some kind of futuristic black material, slightly unzipped. Instead of her sword, she'd opted for a pair of knives strapped to her waste. She waved at Kitty, "Hey, ready to go fight crime?"
“I’m looking forward to it,” Kitty replied, waggling her eyebrows at Dani. “And you look good. Hop on. We’re going to have a lot of fun.” She rolled her shoulders, then pulled her mask on. “There will be blood.” Grin.
Dani hopped on, pulled her mask on, and took care to make sure the coat wouldn't get caught in the motor or wheels as they headed out. She wasn't sure how Remy rocked the trench the way he did. It'd already gotten tangled in her legs once while she'd been training in her room.
For some reason that didn't stop her from continuing to wear it. She smirked and wrapped her arms around Kitty's waste to hold on, "Their blood, not ours."
Kitty popped a wheelie as she peeled away from the ranch. She didn’t seem to lose her balance, only dropping back onto two wheels after several dozen yards. With Dani’s coat flowing behind them, they made an impressive sight, and Kitty’s bike made very, very good time. She cut the engine and coasted the last mile to their target.
Once there, she got off the bike and popped the claws on her wrists before sheathing them again. “Still work. Showed up one night recently...”
"Reminds me of how my sword showed up. I have a valkyrie crown now, too, and... Rahney's uniform. Her really old one. I know it's got to be hers because of how tiny it is," Dani remarked, as she swung off the bike. She cracked her knuckles and tucked her braids behind her shoulders, then put her game face on.
Though it was slightly hard to see the game face, since it was hidden by an almost zorro-like mask.
"What's the plan, boss?"
“Sounds cute.” She adjusted her mask and flashed Dani a grin. “Okay, everything I’ve found tells me this is a place that Cerberus has been using to move information and goods. I want to see if we can find paperwork, or a data trail. There should be some people we can fight too. We sneak in, beat the guards to within an inch of their lives, and then make copies of whatever we find.”
"Sounds really nice, easy, and low profile," Dani remarked, sarcastically. She scanned her eyes over the area, trying to figure out where a good place to infiltrate was. There was a side of the compound that was more dimly lit than the rest of it.
She motioned toward it, "Well that side's the obvious way to sneak in, but that means they're probably guarding it more carefully."
“So we’ll just come in from above.” Kitty pointed at some catwalks. “They won’t be watching that as much, and if we take out the lights and move quickly enough they won’t know we’re hitting them until it’s too late.”
"You're going to make us fly in, aren't you?" Dani asked, with a bit of a groan. It made her feel a little dizzy when Kitty did that kind of stuff, but it was probably the best way anyway. She had no way of flying on her own, after all.
“No.” She popped her claws. “We’re gonna climb.” She gave Dani a grin and then sprang towards the building. She started to scale the wall and the fire escape, quiet as a mouse.
"Well that's easy enough for you to say..." Dani muttered. She did have those knives with her, but shoving them into the side of a wall was just going to dull them.
She made her own way up the fire escape, and then crouched on top of the roof and looked around for a door or hatch that would lead down into the building. There was a stairway exit not that far ahead of them, and she silently started to pad her way over to it. Maybe they'd get lucky and the stairway would lead all the way down to the basement.
Kitty was waiting, and she phased them through door and into the interior. It was silent, and a little damp, the sound of water dripping in the distance. Something smelled a little foul. Kitty wrinkled her nose. “Smells like death.”
"Smells like I might have been right about these stairs leading to the basement," Dani added, wrinkling her nose a bit in disgust. She wished her mask was one of those mouth covering varieties, now, but oh well.
With a snap of her fingers, an arrow was prepped in case they came across any goons, "We can cut the power down there, probably."
It felt like there hadn’t been people here in awhile, except there were the unmistakable signs of guards. They reached the basement, and Kitty stuck her head through the door, then opened it for them. She held up two fingers, then started to slip down the stairs.
Two guards were at the bottom, both facing away from the stairwell. One was far enough away that if they took the other out, he would be alerted.
Dani nodded her head at Kitty. It made sense for them to split up, one of them taking down a guard at exactly the same time as the other, if there were two of them. She'd know more once they went through together, but until then, she was ready to go for whatever guard Kitty didn't head for.
She signaled with a silent 'thumbs up' to show Kitty she was ready, then waited for the phaser to make the first move.
Nodding once, Kitty slipped down the stairs and edged her way through the shadows towards the farther guard, figuring she was quieter and could make it farther without being detected. She didn’t know what power set Dani even had and realized she should have asked if she could shoot someone.
If she had a gun, she could. Right now though, she had an arrow waiting to knock the closer guard, who she was now sneaking up on, unconscious. She waited for Kitty to move on the guard she was approaching before letting the arrow go and whispering, "Take a nap."
Kitty grabbed the man from behind, covering his mouth and punching him in the back of the head. Stunned, he fell to his knees and she dropped her elbow onto the back of his neck to knock him out. She straightened, and peered around into the hallway. There was a light, and she could hear the hum of servers. It was also, thank god, the opposite direction from the smell.
Dani was grateful for that, as well. She dragged the two guards through the doors into the darker hallway, just in case anyone checked the area, then motioned ahead with her hand. Kitty was the leader on this mission, she knew what they were there for and was better at scouting ahead.
Nodding, Kitty tiptoed down the corridor and then peered into rooms as they passed. The first room was dark, and filled with sacks. The second smelled like honey. The third had the servers, and a tech. She dispatched him, and sat in front of a console. “Keep your eyes peeled for anything. This tech is pretty old. I think this place was abandoned awhile ago. At least officially.”
That didn’t explain the guards. Maybe they were reopening it.
Maybe Cerberus just had a buried secret here that they wanted to keep buried. Dani looked around the room, running a finger over a surface at one point and discovering just how thick a coat of dust they'd let settle on things, "It's amazing this stuff is still running at all."
"There's a connection to the outside, but it looks dormant. I'm going to need to be very careful to not trigger something." Kitty jerked her thumb at a cracked camera. "Does that thing look on to you? Can you cover it?" Probably too late now, but she didn't think it was able to pick up anything anyway.
She pulled out a little tablet and hooked it into the system. "I'll let the shi'ar tech break into this. I don't want to fool around for too much longer."
"If it's on it's not picking up much of anything." Dani shrugged, then grabbed up more of the dust that was on every surface and smeared it all over the camera lense, just in case.
It didn't hurt to be more careful, but if they'd been spotted, guards were already on their way down. She started making a little door trap.
Cutting the internet connection, Kitty watched the data flow. Most of it looked outdated but there were a few juicy tidbits that she thought she could use. She wanted to hurry. Cutting the connection probably alerted someone, but some of this data could be used - and she didn’t want it used.
She shoved her hand into the computers and fried their hard drives one by one. “Okay. Lets go.”
Something growled in the darkness.
"Are we done here, or-- woah," Dani blinked her eyes at the growling noise. She'd been crouched down to one side of the door, in the process of creating some kind of door trap. It hadn't really come together, though, and now she wondered if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
The growling could have been anything, but she reached out with her animal empathy to see if she could get a read on it. Then, she tried very hard not to laugh hysterically, "You're not going to fucking believe this. It's a capybara."
“Wait..what? Like..big cute rodent capybara?” Kitty finished what she was doing and joined Dani at the door. She could see eyes glowing in the darkness. “If that’s some kind of mutant killer capybara I’m going to demand a refund.”
"Well it's not a friendly capybara. Its personal space has been violated and it's angry about it," Dani replied, still trying not to laugh. Alright, she was failing. She started snickering just a little bit.
The capybara came at them like raccoons on steroids. There must have been...well three of them, and Kitty felt really, really bad. “I can’t stab them, I can’t! They’re adorable little killing machines!”
"I can't believe you really just said that," Dani declared, while still laughing. This was all just too funny to take seriously, which was probably a bad thing for all of them, since the capybaras were definitely taking it seriously.
She tried to use her powers to get them to back down, but that wasn't all that successful. So she queued up an arrow and tried flinging one at one of them, "If I get bit and contract rabies, I am so blaming you."
“How was I to know there’d be mutant capybara?” Kitty jumped over one, then kicked it in the side. “This way, quick!”
"No, I'm blaming you for the part where we're not killing them because they're so ~cuuute~," Dani corrected. She followed Kitty out, hoping there were no more surprise rodents or mutated animals of any kind. Their night had been crazy enough.
Kitty laughed, pushing a door open and peering around to make sure they weren’t tripping any alarms. She chucked a rock to break a camera. “I think we can leave through the front door this time. We should go. Probably hit an alarm.”
"I'm thinking yes, we hit some kind of alarm. The elite Capybara response system alarm, probably, but there might be more guards, too. Leaving is a great idea," Dani agreed.
Her pace picked up a bit and she concentrated less on tripping any lasers or alarms up, "If that's the case we should be less cautious and a lot more hasty, though."
Kitty nodded, grabbing Dani’s hand and throwing them bodily through a window. Nothing shattered, and the window acted like nothing had happened as they landed on the other side. “Split, meet me a block west of here.”
"Roger that, Captain Phaseypants," Dani joked. She saluted Kitty, then took off at a sprint in an eastern direction. She'd loop back around and meet Kitty in a few minutes.
Kitty was there, with her bike, and forty minutes later she was treating Dani to some late night ice cream. Mission accomplished.
