Rogue had money to spare so she was going to treat herself to a coffee and a good snack. Today had been a good day - she’d picked a few pockets, and planned some bigger hits - so she was completely ready to relax and enjoy the day. Until she got to the coffee shop and saw how busy it was. But she was determined to have a good coffee and a good snack, so she bore the line with grace. Even if she was slightly impatient today. Rogue was not prone to fits of impatience, but she was feeling it today. She ordered her coffee and her small sandwich, paid and dropped into an open chair. There was one other chair there, too. She set her things down and leaned back to enjoy the coffee and the atmosphere. Even if she was marking people who might be more targets for her later.
Pansy was in a terrible mood. Of course her favorite place to have coffee would be so busy. Her apartment was just so empty without Peter there, and thinking about him and Gwen in Switzerland made things worse. They were probably asleep right now. That horrible, blonde skank breathing the same air that Peter was. Maybe she was PMSing. Her boyfriend was kind of the center of her universe at the moment, though. Maybe she should go back to school in the fall. It’d give her something else to do besides work and... well... boyfriend.
She collected up her drink and turned to head out of the cafe, but stopped when she saw her shoe was untied. She paused by Rogue’s table and motioned to the chair. “...is this taken?” She asked. She’d need to sit down to re-lace the boot.
Rogue smiled at the woman and shook her head. “Nope, go’head and sit if’n you want.” she said with a smile as she set her coffee on the table and waited for the woman to sit. Her eyes sparkled a bit as she relaxed, the place may be packed, and normally she’d be marking people left and right for her work, but today she was just happy to sit down and relax. She picked up her sandwich and took a few bites, savoring the taste for a moment. She loved good food some days, she rarely indulged after all.
“Yer welcome to sit and stay if’n you want.” she said with a tilt of her head. Rogue didn’t mind the company. In fact she generally liked company. It was nice to chat with people who weren’t her marks. Or her contacts.
Pansy gave a gentle “thanks” then flopped down into the chair. She gave a huge sigh, set her coffee down, then leaned over to start lacing up her boot. How it’d come so far undone, she had no idea. The things were knee-high, and pretty awesome. High heels. Sex in boots form. That’s what Peter gets for leaving her behind.
“Thanks. I might just do that.” Pansy said, giving the other gal a smile. “I love this place, but when did it get to be so popular?” She asked, playfully.
”Ah don’t really know - ah’ve only been here once before.” she laughed softly as she watched Pansy lace up the boots. There was a flash of envy in her eyes, Rogue was a girl raised on cowboy boots and flip flips - something that luxurious was only a dream. Even now with her stealing things it was surviving, not getting stuff she wanted. So there was that twinge of envy, wishing she could afford such things. She barely made rent most of the time. “Ah just wanted to get off my feet for ten minutes and enjoy a coffee before ‘heading out, but ah got in and the place was packed!” she said with a smile.
Ah, yes. Pansy was raised by people who had more money than sense. So she was a bit of a shopper. Also, last year around Christmas Time she’d wished for a million dollars, and found the cash waiting for her in her closet. She’d started out spending it on gift cards, and pre-paying rent, and she bought her friend a shit load of christmas presents... she only burned through about half of it before the remaining cash disappeared... but she still had about $300k in gift cards. Crazy, right? But that’s what the OC did to ya.
“Ah, are you on your way to work, or something?” Pansy had a desk job now, and was worried about calories going straight to her ass. “I should probably get going in just a minute, too, but it’s nice to sit.” She reached for her drink and sipped.
”Ah’m unemployed, actually.” she said without hesitation or even embarrassment. “But you don’t wanna be late, yeah?” she said with a small smile. Rogue didn’t seem to be embarrassed about her employment situation but inwardly she hated it. She had come out here just to get away, to start over, to not be a farmer’s daughter, but she had learned she couldn’t escape her roots. And that she had no employable skills out here. It made her skin crawl that she had been that dumb. Not that she’d go back to mommy and daddy - no that was rather impossible. .
“Yeah, I shouldn’t be.” Pansy said. She wasn’t really in a rush. She didn’t think John would mind if she came in a few minutes late. It happened often enough, and he never said anything. She stayed late whenever she got there late, anyway. “Thanks for letting me share your table.” She added, gave it a gentle knock, then stood.
”Ah’m Rogue, it was a pleasure ta meetcha and share the table with ya.” she said as she watched the woman go. Silently noting that she’d never mark her, something about her made her not want to steal from her. She wasn’t sure what it was but she offered the woman a bright smile.
“Pansy.” Pansy said, giving the other woman a smile. She seemed really nice. “I’ll see you around. If you haven’t already, you should check out Valarnet online. I’m on there. Maybe next time we can meet on purpose.” She waved on her way out.
Rogue waved at the woman. “A pleasure. Ah’m on it, we’ll talk then!” she smiled again as she watched her go then finished her own coffee. A glance around told her there were still too many people, so she packed up and left herself, smiling a tiny bit. Maybe, just maybe, this place wasn’t so bad.
