Who: Felicity and John
When: 28th July
Where: John’s offices
What: A job prospect
Rating/Warning: Low/teasing innuendo (John loves winding Felicity up)
Status: Complete
Felicity all but bounced up to the door of John’s office, excited by the prospect of more jobs. She’d been keeping her head above water with her part-time job and some other mini projects, but they weren’t particularly interesting, whereas John had the good stuff! She knocked on the door and waited for him to answer.
John was looking forward to giving the jobs he’d acquired to Felicity, he thought she’d get a kick out of them. They were definitely up her street and would be something to sink her teeth into. The nice paycheck would also help, a couple jobs like this a month and she’d be laughing. He had no idea people paid so well for things he used to do for fun.
Answering the door he smiled at her as he stepped back to see her in, “Felicity, good to see you. You’re safe by the way, I’ve still not resorted to porn” he teased her reminding her of the last time they’d met here, “How are you?”
“I’m...never going to live that down, am I?” Felicity joked as she stepped into the room. “I’m good thanks, looking forward to seeing what you’ve got for me,” she smiled knowingly.
“Probably not” John chuckled, “But it could be worse, you could have been right” he winked. “Oh you should be, it’s gonna rock your world” Apparently John couldn’t help teasing her. He led the way into the computer room, figuring that would be more comfortable than the office. The hum of the computers were somewhat reassuring.
“Really...” Felicity said warily. “You’re...sure it’s not porn, yeah?” she asked as she followed him. ‘Rocking her world’ conjured images of scantily-clad women making far too much noise for the tiny...members they were pleasuring.
“Definitely not. I’m pretty sure porn isn’t the sort of thing that will rock your world, if you don’t mind me saying” he added pulling out the chair for her and gesturing for her to sit.
“Mr Connor,” Felicity gasped, feigning shock. “You know very little of what ‘rocks my world’,” she told him archly as she sat in the chair he referred to. She smiled up at him after realising what she’d said, “Sorry, I just...I’m sure what you’ve picked for me will rock my world I just...oh god...” she slumped a little as the effort to explain caught up with her.
John laughed, “I apologise and stand corrected” he managed to reply before patting her on the shoulder. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t tease you, it’s very unprofessional of me”
"No, it's fine, I just...sometimes the filter between my mouth and my brain gets disconnected," Felicity explained with an awkward smile.
“It’s endearing if that’s any help” John told her smiling before gesturing to the computer, “Anyway, desktop folder called Felicity. The job details are in there. Both jobs require your hacking skills. First guy thinks his company accountant is fiddling the books and the second one thinks his secretary is handing off details of his clients to another company” he explained, “I just need you to see if its true or not and if it is work out how we can catch them out, legally”
Felicity blushed as he patted her on her shoulder, sweeping a hand over her ponytail as she focussed on the computer he referred her to. She opened up the folder and gave the first one a look over. “Legally?” she asked, looking round the monitor to raise an eyebrow at him.
“Yeah you know, proof that there is wrong doings going on that can be proven without illegal hacking of systems” John replied, “Like bank statements that accidentally get posted to the work address - stuff like that” he grinned.
“Ok,” Felicity replied, amused. He didn’t say she couldn’t do the initial investigation illegally...just as long as she could prove it legally. “I’ll see what I can do,” she smiled, opening up the second project, which sounded more interesting than the first. “You know these guys? Or are they just random clients?”
And that was exactly why John had said it that way, he knew Felicity was a smart cookie. “They’re friends of a very good client” John told her, “It’s all come from someone I trust a lot. She’s sent a lot of work my way, in fact most of this business taking off has been thanks to her contacts, then word of mouth has been awesome”
“Cool,” Felicity replied; if John trusted them, then she would as well. “They got a deadline or just as soon as?”
“You’ll be protected if anything happens” he assured her, John would take the hit for any trouble it was his company after all. “As soon as. No rushing. They know it will take as long as it takes and are happy with it”
“Sweet,” Felicity smiled. “You want it all done here? Or can I take it home? I’ve got some equipment back at my flat which would help is all,” she explained.
“As long as it’s all secure - which I know it will be - then do as you will” John said, “If you want to give me your bank details I can arrange for your payment to go into there when the jobs are complete”
“Thanks,” Felicity smiled, she appreciated the trust he was putting in her. “Oh, umm...” she dug around in her bag for her purse and pulled out her bank card, pulling a piece of paper and pen to her so she could copy down the details. “Here you go,” she told him, handing over the piece of paper to him then replacing her card in her purse.
“That’s great, thanks” John said, “I’ll get it all set up and ready so when it’s done you won’t be waiting too long” he told her.
Felicity smiled at him, then frowned at the computer in front of her. “Hmm...this is one clever accountant,” she commented. “Who knew embezzling could be such an art form,” she joked.
John chuckled, “Oh the lengths some people will go to is quite astounding” he agreed.
Felicity laughed at that, “Right, I’m going to need to head home. Looks like I’m going to need some of my more...custom-made stuff.”
“Not a problem” John nodded, “Just keep me updated on your progress”
“Will do,” Felicity stood and picked up her bag from the floor beside her as the computer logged itself off. “Have you got the server information so I can log on from home? Don’t worry, it’s a secure connection, I made sure,” she smiled.
John smiled, “I have no doubt you did” he told her as he wrote down the information she’d need and handed it over. Before walking with her to the door, “Thanks again Felicity, I’m glad we’re able to work together”
“Me too, I think we make a pretty nifty team,” Felicity grinned proudly. “See you later, gotta catch embezzlers and inside traders,” she joked before leaving, waving her hand over her shoulder.
John waved back, “Happy Hunting” he told her before shutting the door with a grin.
