Nate had spent several days in this body and by now, he was getting used to how it moved, and how the carapace came out. he felt a little more agile as well, and he had started a light exercise routine. Nothing that would even ache really, for Cora whenever this was solved. But just so he could be moving and doing something. He had also restarted practicing with the psimitar, wanting to push himself to be able to protect himself and others.
He wore a watch, now, a modified comlink to Professor, allowing him to signal or voice call for help or transport anytime, anywhere. And now, after appearing near The Mallory residence door, just out of sight of the street, he knocked.
Maybe this was odd, but at least he could spend some time with Cora and try to help her get used to the body. and Miss Mallory was being awfully nice about this being his fault really. Stupid powers. His powers were usually pretty awesome, but sometimes they sucked, big times, like now.
Cora still felt like a bull elephant in a china shop as she lumbered toward he door, trying to tiptoe. Maybe her own body would feel less awkward when they switched back. She could hope, anyway. She'd been spending a lot of time outdoors just to give herself some room to stretch her legs, and keep Nate's body in shape. Exercise meant she had to shower, though, and showering meant she had to look at Nate's body. She couldn't so much as peek without giggling and turning red all over.
"Hi," she said, poking her head out the door. "Hug?"
"Lots of hugs. And, hi." Nate favored her with a warm grin. She was still the person he loved, no matter her age or body. He loved spending time with her.
Cora smiled, and stepped onto the porch to wrap her arms around him in a hug that would probably lift him off his feet. She let him down gently, cheeks warm and rosy, and clasped one of his hands in hers. “Want to go inside, or around to the back yard?”
Nate hugged her back, laughing as he was lifted up and then settled down again and kissed her cheeks, before grinning and holding her hand. His eyes danced with unadulterated warmth. “Either, as long as I get to be with you.” He nodded. She was his home. He felt that now. Maybe it was silly since there would be years before they could be together, really, but he felt it with every fiber of who he was.
Corazon smiled, and led Nate inside, and through the laundry room toward the back door. She stopped in the kitchen long enough to grab a couple of chocolate peanut butter cookies. "I baked this morning, after breakfast."
Nate grinned. “You know, someday, if we managed to work all the craziness out of our lives, or find a way to ride through it, and we manage to live together? We will have to constantly exercise. We both like to bake, and otherwise we would be so doomed.” He nodded, and hugged her sideways as they went.
“Nah,” Cora said, turning sideways so they could fit through the back door without letting go of each other. Then she aimed them for the hammock. “You wouldn’t be able to sit still, so you’d burn it all off anyway.”
Nate grinned as they squeezed through and followed her along. He nodded as he saw her target. “True. I like to do things.” He was an active guy. what could he say?
He stroked her hair softly as he hopped into the hammock.
Once Cora had eased into the hammock, it didn’t tip much, even when Nate hopped on. She liked to hang out in her ‘web,’ and just lie there, letting her mind drift. She didn’t drift too much with Nate there, though. He had a way of holding her attention. “I like it when we can do things together. Even if things do turn out a little weird, sometimes.”
Nate snuggled Cora close, and smiled. He liked how she held him and how she sort of grounded him. She made the world feel better, and seem more real. Even at times like this one.
“Me too. And I wish things didn’t turn out weird, but you know what? As long as it’s with you, I can deal.” He nodded.
“We’ll be okay,” she promised, stroking his hair. The hammock rocked gently as she rolled toward him, and the breeze caressed their skin. If she closed her eyes, she could almost forget they were in the wrong bodies. “I know we’ll be okay.”
Nate grinned at her, and he snuggled her close, closing his eyes, and just breathing in the scent, and the feel of being around her. He held her and pushed away everything else. “Yes we will. No matter what. Yes we will.”
And it was that simple, really.
