Hermione was looking forward to meeting up with Penelope and talking to her friend about everything that’d been going on in her life. Hermione had been having a nice few days, and was in a good mood as she sat in the cafe, waiting for Penelope to arrive.
Garcia was on cloud nine. Sebastian and she were sort of kind of going on dates, and her BFF had gotten married. Really, what else could be better? So when she saw Hermione, Garcia raced towards her, all smiles.
Hermione broke into a smile herself. “Howdy, stranger! How’s it going?” She said, pushing the seat out next to hers. “I ordered us a couple of mochas. I hope that’s all right.”
“It’s going fantastic, and I will never turn down a mocha.” Penelope giggled, sitting down and hugging Hermione. “How’re you, my darling?”
“Good! Really good.” Hermione returned the hug. Penelope’s good mood was absolutely infectious. She couldn’t help but grin at the sight of her friend’s smile, the sound of her giggle. “You’re... bright and chipper today. Did you already have a mocha?”
“Noooo. Just ... I have a date with the guy I’ve liked for ages and I’m just ... yeah.” Garcia bounced in her seat, giving Hermione a hug.
Hermione laughed. “That’s wonderful! That’s... why... all the hugging?” She asked, grinning brightly. “Who is he? Where are you going on your date?”
“His name is Sebastian Vael, that’s why all the hugging, and out to dinner.” She was also happy because her other BFF was married but she didn’t know if Dean wanted her to talk about that so she didn’t.
Hermione laughed. “That’s wonderful! Congratulations!” Hermione said, beaming. “I hope it’s a nice dinner! What are you going to wear?” Because deep down, under all the studying and bushy hair, Hermione was a girly girl.
“I don’t know where we’re going yet, so I don’t know. If it’s fancy, I’ve got a little black dress I can wear.” Penelope thought about Sebastian in a suit and made a happy noise.
“A little black dress sounds perfect! You should accent it with red. I think you look amazing in red.” Hermione almost squee’d herself at the happy noise. “I’m so thrilled for you, Love!”
“I’ll wear red lipstick no matter what,” Garcia beamed. “Wanna see a photo of him? He’s in Skeeter’s column all the time, but I’ve got super awesome snaps of him I take when he thinks I’m not looking.”
“Heck yeah I do!” Hermione said, nodding excitedly.
Garcia fished out her phone and showed Hermione a photo that may have been her cell phone’s most frequently brought up image. “I’m going to snog him. Yeah. He asked me.” She still felt absurdly like she was in a dream.
“Oh. Wow.” Hermione reached over and took hold of the phone. “Hubba hubba.” She gave Penelope a bright grin. “He’s so handsome!”
“I know. I only took the job working for him because I had a crush.” Garcia’s hands cupped her cheeks. “He’s Scottish, too.”
“Oh, God.” Hermione gave a little laugh. “...he’s got a Scottish accent? That’s just...” Of course, they ran rampant in Hermione’s dreams. But she’d been in America long enough in this world that she’d learned to appreciate accents in a different way.
Garcia nodded. “And - this is the thing that made me just fall head over heels for him - he’s a huge dork. We’re both Whovians and he likes comics. He’s amazing.” Garcia gave a swoony sigh.
“Wow. Hot and nerdy? That’s an awesome combination.” Hermione thought she and Jim both had that same combo, thanksmuch. Of course, so did Garcia. She was one of those few gal pals that Hermione might consider bringing in for a threesome. “You’ll have to bring him over... we can have a dinner date with video games! Or something.”
“Yeah, we ended up to be really good friends.” Garcia smiled, tucking her hair behind her ears. “When I first took the job with him, he was taken, so I figured I was lucky to have another awesome friend. But then the bitch dumped him - over e-mail, the jerk - and I didn’t want to be all ‘oh, hey, you should date me now!’ when he was upset.” But somehow, Sebastian had decided that he liked her too, for whatever reason. Garcia wasn’t going to break him of his delusion.
“Wait... she dumped him via email?” Hermione was still holding Garcia’s phone, so she turned it around so her friend could see the picture. “She dumped him via email??” Emphasis on the picture, man. Because that picture... whoa.
“I know, right? Russian supermodel or no, I wouldn’t dump him if I were dating him unless he murdered someone. And even then, I’d be hoping it was in self-defense.” Garcia laughed to herself, sighing a little at the picture. “Not that he would - he’s got such a good heart. He’s starting a charity for the people hit hard by the events in Las Vegas.”
“That’s so wonderful of him,” Hermione said, giving a grin. “I wish i could do more for the people who were affected by those crazy events.” She was still trying to help Jim through it all. “When’s the date, then??”
“Saturday,” Garcia sighed. “I’m thinking I’ll wear my favorite corset over the little black dress and red heels.” Garcia dressed quirky, but sometimes Quirky could be Sexy too. “How’s your husband doing? I should meet him sometime.”
Hermione was a little jealous, to be honest. Only a tiny bit, and not because of the guy. She missed that excited feeling that she got at one point in her life. The happy, giddy feeling before an exciting date. She didn’t get that all too often now with Jim. Though, the warm, comfortable feeling that she had pretty much constantly was much better.
“He’s good. He was in Las Vegas, so... well, sort of.” Hermione frowned a bit. “He’s got some Dream stuff he’s going through. It’s rough.” She sipped from her drink. “We’ll have to have a double date with your new boyfriend,” Hermione teased.
“Oh, he was part of all that stuff in Vegas?” Garcia chewed on her lower lip, wishing there was something she could say or do to soothe that frown off of her friend’s face. She moved to hug her, wrapping her arms around her tightly. “He’s not a boyfriend yet, but I can be your third wheel sometime. I’d love to meet your Captain. ... please tell me you guys roleplay that in the bedroom. It’d be just too easy.”
“Something like that. The Enterprise was involved.” Hermione didn’t actually have the full story. She had most of it, but like a lot of things that Jim did, she didn’t ask too many questions. So long as he came home alive.
Then Hermione was returning the hug, and it made her a little happier. She chuckled. “He got me a science officer’s uniform. The skirt is way short.” But Hermione loved it. “You’re welcome to come over and third wheel anytime. We should have a movie night! Just the three of us.”
“Just as long as you don’t do the no panties ‘whoops, I just bent down at the waist by accident’ on the night I come over.” Garcia laughed at that. “Movie night sounds safe, though.”
“You’re thinking of Star Trek porn,” Hermione informed her friend, breaking into a grin. “No, we’re definitely not that bad. Though, I’m sure Jim wishes we were.“
“Why not be? Just not when I’m there.” Garcia laughed. “I mean, that’s what I’d do. Something something hard right on starboard.”
Hermione went pink. “It’s bad enough that we christened every room on the Enterprise.” She was grinning, though. Mischievously. “But yes, there’s been plenty of action in the Captain’s Chair.”
“Oh, well, you’ll have to get other costumes.” Laughing brightly, Penelope thought to herself. “Slave Leia’s always an option.”
“Oooh, I should... but wait... isn’t that like, crossing fandoms? Bad form, or something?” She asked, bright red and grinning.
“Some people would say that’s awful, but I’m a Trekkie and a Star Wars fan and I don’t even care.” She shrugged. “I don’t think it’s weird.” It still hadn’t sunk in that her friend Hermione was married to that Kirk.
It was definitely that Kirk. And Hermione was that Hermione. She just didn’t know it yet. “Well, I’m sure around Halloween all those costumes will start popping up. I’ll have to get my hands on the Leia costume somewhere.”
“I know a bunch of cosplay places, I can point you in their direction.” She’d cosplayed as Gert a few times, complete with friend in velociraptor costume at her side.
“Yes, please.” Hermione said, giving her friend a grin. Jim was gonna love it.
Looking up the contacts in her phone, Garcia sent them directly to Hermione via bluetooth. “You’re welcome. Just let him know you have a friend he should thank.”
Hermione pulled out her phone and took a look. “Wonderful! I’ll give him your contact info and I’m sure he’ll send you a bottle of wine, or something.” She gave her friend a grin.
“I’d settle for a high five, but I’ll never say no to wine,” Garcia laughed.
“I’ll pass that along.” Hermione laughed, too, lifting her drink for a toast, then sipped.
