Who: Gin and Faye (in Rose’s body) When: 4th August - evening Where:Always What: Drinking to forget the bodyswap Rating/Warning: Low Status: Complete
Faye was trying to get used to the new body she seemed to be inhabiting. It was little and blonde and had very few curves. It also felt wrong. She was sure she’d feel better after a drink or two. Luckily her staff had been pretty understanding once she’d explained - thank god they all lived locally - so she was sat at the end of the bar looking sorry for herself and waiting for her drinking buddy to arrive.
Gin snuck in like a ghost, which was perfectly fitting considering he was a soul reaper. He was looking around for a blonde with not-so-bodacious boobage, when he caught sight of the girl sitting at the bar. Taking a chance - and because he liked blondes (entirely Rangiku's fault) - Gin drew close enough to peck a kiss on the girl's cheek before sitting next to her.
"If your name's Faye, I'm gonna say ya ain't half bad lookin'," Gin said with his usual smile. It was like nothing surprised him anymore. Living in Orange County, how could something surprise anyone, anymore? To make sure he sounded reassuring, he added in a lazy drawl, "But I do miss those curves of yours, Faye-chan."
Faye lit up when Gin found her and kissed her cheek, she laughed softly hugging him quickly. Even that felt different. “Thank you Gin, I miss them too. But I think drinking can only help right?” She hoped so anyway, she didn’t want to feel like this all the time.
Even if he knew it was his friend stuck in someone else’s body, the hug was definitely missing some of it's usual smush in the chestal region. Gin's smile faltered for a second or two, before it was forced back in place again. Orange County was a weird kinda place.
"Shoo can," he said, one hand trailing down over her back. Even that felt different to him, so he could only imagine what it was like for her. "Let's get ya started on the path ta alcoholic recovery. The right way. With somethin' flammable."
It was definitely missing something, it just felt off. The whole thing felt off. Stupid bloody county. That feeling was only intensified as his hand touched her back, the tingles weren’t the same.
“Now that is a grand idea” she tapped on the bar and her best bartender immediately came over to take their order.
"You're tense. But if ya ain't weirded out by this," Gin told Faye, "then somethin's wrong with ya." He ordered something suitably clear and strong, before turning toward her and hooking one elbow onto the edge of the bar. He looked to be studying her, but - as usual - it was hard to tell.
"When an' how'd this happen to ya?"
Faye nodded, “I’m very weirded out” she told him, “Hence the drinking, it’s the only solution I can think of right now”
She thought he was studying her but as always couldn’t be positive. Not that she minded, she’d have done the same. It was odd knowing it was her but seeing her mannerisms expressed through a different face.
“Early this morning, before lunch. I was cutting through the park to meet with a supplier when it felt like I got punched in the middle. I carried on walking for a bit then knew something was wrong”
It was odd because he could see those same mannerisms in the way she moved and phrased things, but then...there was the hair that distracted him most. Even if he knew it was Faye in there, it made him feel a faint twinge of wistfulness and regret toward a certain blonde with gigantic breasts and big blue eyes. That was probably why he reached out, briefly turning a strand of that hair between two pale fingertips and continuing to hide his thoughts behind a smile and making it seem like a merely playful gesture.
That was there. This was now. If there was one thing Gin knew: There was never any turning back.
"Orange County's a weird place, yep." He had let go of her hair, whoever's hair that really was, and made a toasting motion with his drink. "Sometime it’s a real punch in the tummy, even withoutta body swap."
Faye let him play with her hair, it was almost comforting that he was still touching her and acting kind of normally. As normal as Gin ever got anyway. She knew there was something he was hiding from her, from everybody, but it was his secret to keep. She was just glad he was in her life.
“I’ll drink to that” Faye agreed before downing her drink.
Even if he was hiding...well, everything...Gin was glad that Faye was his friend too. Mostly because she was as much trouble as he was. Their Vegas vacation proved that and, even if it did involve trouble, it was also pretty fun.
He held up two fingers and smiled cheerily, ordering them two more of the same.
"Dun worry. I'll drag ya outta here when ya get shitfaced. Ya wanna sleep it off at your place or mine?"
“Come to mine?” she asked, “It might help waking up in my own bed even if I’m not in my own body” If she was still stuck in the blonde anyway, with any luck she wouldn’t be. “You’re my lifesaver you know that right? I couldn’t be without ya”
Even though Gin nodded in agreement, he was simultaneously thinking that had to be the most ironic statement ever, considering who and what he was. It delighted him in a twisted sort of way, enough that he laughed out loud, thinking it was a grand joke. Sure, he knew she truly meant it at the same time and he felt the same, but it was funny. One arm slipped around her shoulders and he leaned in against her, looking very much like she was the only thing holding him up, even if he wasn't anywhere near drunk yet.
"I'd be lost without ya here too," he told her, "an' this' what friends're for. If someone told ya ta get lost or you were on your own atta time like this, then they ain't no friend. That's a fact."
Even if she had known who and what he was it was still a true statement for her. She wouldn’t have seen him much differently had she known, except to maybe regard him as way more sneaky than she already thought. At the end of the day it was irrelevant to her what his job was, he was her very good friend and she loved him.
“Thank you” she told him softly, leaning against him for a moment as she closed her eyes. She could almost pretend this wasn’t happening.
That was one of the things he liked about Faye. She didn't judge. Probably because she would go PFFT at anyone judging her for anything she did. It was probably much safer for her if she thought he was an accountant, anyway.
He stopped smiling long enough to sneak in a kiss, saying just loud enough to be heard over the din of nightclubbers and music, "Ya know you're welcome. Anytime. But you're nowhere near drunk 'nuff ta pass out in your bed. We're gonna haveta work on that, pronto."
Someone’s going to have a slightly pickled liver and need to change their kidney filters, when they finally get that body back.
Faye smiled into the kiss and was smiling when he pulled back, “Okay, you’re damn right. Let’s get this party started” she thumped her hand down on the bar and the bartender immediately arrived with more drinks. She had taught her staff well.
Now Faye had some serious drinking to do she was determined to pass out next to Gin in her bed that night.
"That sounds like trouble waitin' ta happen. You're gettin' back to your ol' self already," was his lightly teasing reply. She also really didn't have to be that determined. Gin already knew it was a sure bet.
