Daisy’s birthday was coming up, and Severus wanted to explore other options. He was almost ashamed to admit that he knew every character on that show where the girls were all named after food, and the one with the fat, donkey-like cartoon horses. It would have been humiliating if anyone else knew how much information he had stored in his head about Sophia the First and Jake and the Neverland Pirates.
Anyway, he was looking for a new place to take her shopping, to get new ideas for her party. They were just planning a backyard barbecue, so it wasn’t a big thing. But inviting the other families over and whatnot meant he had to make it look like he put in some effort. He brought Daisy with him to a place he’d driven by a thousand times, and thought it was time to poke his head in.
The Twins would admit readily (although possibly not around small children) that there was never a bad time to poke ones’ head in.
Oh, jokes, you never get old.
The twins perked up, pleased as anything to spot new people walking into their shop. Fred’s eyebrows rose first though, followed closely by George’s. “Professor Snape!” And then their looks of surprise melted into wicked smiles. “Hello.”
Severus recognized them instantly. He was a little surprised to see them there, but then again he really shouldn’t have been. The Weasley Twins were highly successful in the dreams, and it shouldn’t be a surprise that they would be here, too. That is, if they were anything like the dream versions of themselves.
“Daddy! Daddy! Look! Looook!” Daisy went to the brightest, most colorful thing she could find at eye height and tugged his hand along.
The Twins’ smiles remained, even as their eyes darted down to the little girl, and then back to each other as if to share a look of marvel over that fact that this man somehow ended up with progeny.
“Looking for something in particular?” George schmoozed, just a little. But this was a rare opportunity.
“No, just looking.” Severus wasn’t quite sure how to handle this. To be perfectly honest, a part of him wanted to run away. He wasn’t to the end of his dreams, though he knew that he was the cause of George Weasley losing an ear.
Daisy, on the other hand, had absolutely no reason to want to flee. She was perfectly happy to run around the shop and look at everything, touch everything. She was nearly three, and a mature one at that. She wasn’t shy by any stretch of the imagination. “Toys!” She responded, turning to look at whichever twin was nearest. “I want toys!”
Fred was nearest, and he beamed at the little girl -- bright and friendly. “Toy, you say! I think you’ve come to the right place!”
Both of the twins were early on in the dreams -- they knew nothing of ear losses or much else, really. To them, this was just a grumpy too-gothic teacher who liked ruining everyone’s day.
Who had a kid here, apparently.
Daisy turned to give Severus one of the biggest smiles ever, then turned back to Fred. “Yes please!” She said, clapping her hands together.
Severus was a little wary of what sorts of toys they might find in this place. He wondered what Romana would say if they came home with fake vomit, or plastic dog crap, or worse--something from the dreams.
Hey! They had real toys too, not just plastic crap (no, literally, crap.) and things that exploded. Fred moved to bend down and affix a pair of bunny ears on a headband to the girls’ head, because adorable and also it might make Snape make a face and he approved of both those things.
George only smiled at Snape in a way that one might describe as disturbingly pleasant.
It was just that. Disturbingly pleasant. Severus gave the second twin (he had no idea which was which in the Dreams, nor did he in this world) a bit of a nod. It was as close as he could come to friendly, really. He turned to follow Daisy.
She gave a little squeal of laughter, then started to hop around the toys section of the store, saying “Look, Daddy, Imma Bunny!”
The twins, of course, encouraged such behavior. They also like being disturbing. Really, it was a decent day in terms of accomplishments. “Excellent bunny hopping,” they both complimented.
Severus followed after her, giving a gentle “that’s nice, dear” as he moved through the store. He was intrigued almost as much as he was cautious, amused as much as irritated. He let Daisy pick out whatever she wanted. She was nothing if not spoiled.
Eventually the twins gave up their silent terrorizing. It was a little more difficult to do this properly when there was a small child involved. Not impossible, just difficult.
In any case, they rang up and bunch of toys in the end and gave the little girl some free candy. Because at least then they’d gotten their digs in by making Snape’s kid hyper active.
That was enough. And he’d just given them a ton of money for all the things that Daisy couldn’t live without. He gave the twins another nod, a gentle “thank you,” and then turned to his daughter. “What do you say, Daisy?”
Daisy gave a bright smile, mouth full of candy, and gave a “tank choo!” before turning to skip out of the shop ahead of her father.
The twins giggled and waved maniacally from behind the counter. “Come again soon!”
