Merlin had been busy. He hadn’t quite realised that taking on the team leader position would increase his workload quite this much but he was enjoying it. It did, however, mean that he didn’t get to walk Audrey home from work everyday. He was currently only managing to do so on a Friday. But he had been sending her flowers once a week as a sort of apology even though she said she didn’t mind. Merlin minded. He enjoyed walking her home, it was nice to spend those few minutes arm in arm enjoying being in each others company.
Still hopefully it wouldn’t be too long before he’d be able to do so. He was trying to wangle it so he could get one of his team members bumped up a pay grade so they could assist him. Especially as they really needed to get going on house hunting sooner rather than later.
Arriving at the bakery he shifted the flowers into his other hand before entering. He was hoping to surprise her.
Audrey wasn’t expecting to see Merlin today. She was going to walk home on her own, change into pajamas, and take a nap. She was just wrapping up work, taking her apron off and hanging it behind the counter. She’d already said her goodbyes to the girls when Merlin came through the doorway and caught her attention. She broke into a grin. “Hey, Stranger.”
“Hey gorgeous” Merlin replied smiling brightly as he moved over to her, leaning down to steal a kiss before presenting the flowers to her. “Looks like I was right on time” he said as he slipped his arm around her waist, nodding at the staff who giggled and waved back.
Audrey couldn’t help but wrap an arm down and around him when he stole his kiss. She grinned and then accepted the flowers. “You didn’t have to do this!” She said, then turned and shot a playful, little glare at the girls behind the register. Get back to work, slackers!
"I wanted to" Merlin replied, he'd buy her flowers every day if he didn't think the apartment would turn into a florist. But he did like getting her some every week, even more so when he could deliver them personally. He chuckled as she glared, "Come on, lets get you home and out of those clothes" he said winking at the girls, setting them off again, before leading Audrey through out the door.
For every bouquet of flowers he got for Audrey, she was doing her best to give him her own kindness in return. Muffin deliveries at work, lots of amazing sex, good dinners at her place. She did what she could to keep him fat, satiated and happy. She let him lead her out of the door because like, who could complain about getting home and stripping with her fantastic fiance?
Once they were on the street walking toward her place, she took his hand and laced their fingers together. “How’s work? Still keeping you so busy?”
Merlin was definitely satiated and happy, he hoped not to be the fat part for a while yet though.
Squeezing her fingers he said, "Still busy. I'm closer to convincing them I need a second in command though. Doesn't help that Stark nicked Gwen for the Switzerland trip. I'm sure she's enjoying it but she's too handy to have around" He shrugged, "Hopefully I can get back to walking you home soon. How's the bakery, love?"
“Gwen’s off? That’s a shame. I like her.” Audrey said, grinning. “I mean, I didn’t bump into her last time I came to Stark to deliver your lunch.” She coughed, playfully, then gave him a wink. “Bakery’s doing great. I think I’m going to have to hire on some new help.”
"Yeah, two weeks in total. Right sure you didn't" he sounded weary but he was grinning, "Just no plotting anything, I know what you women are like when you get together" he teased her. "Yeah? That's great Aud, you'll have an army of bakers soon"
“Muahahahaha.” Audrey did a very poor impersonation of an evil villain laugh. “I’ll be plotting with Gwen about how my army of evil bakers is going to take over the planet!” She said, then pulled out her keys to let them into her apartment.
Merlin laughed as he followed her inside, once the door was closed he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close against him, "I'm just glad I'm on your side" he told her before kissing her neck.
Audrey gave a happy giggle and then a sigh, wrapping her own arms around him. “Let me put these flowers in some water. Then we can go shag like rabbits.” One of her hands went straight to his hair, holding him against her. But she released him to try and find a vase in the kitchen.
"Now that sounds like a great plan" Merlin grinned, "I've always thought the rabbits had it sorted you know" he mused randomly as he followed her into the kitchen. "Before we get too distracted though I need to talk to you about the wedding" he said as she poured water into the vase.
Audrey chuckled. She moved about the kitchen with ease, finding a vase, filling it with water, trimming the ends of the flowers. “Oh?” She asked, looking at him off and on while she arranged the flowers. “What about the wedding? Not getting cold feet already, are you?”
“As if love, that’s never gonna happen” he told her smiling, “I’d marry you tomorrow if I could. But actually it’s the date I wanted to talk to you about. Any time in particular you’d like?” he asked her, “And are you sure you don’t want more input?” he’d hate for the day to arrive and Audrey to regret not choosing the colours or something like that.
Audrey shook her head. “I have no preferences at all. Just... no colors that would clash with my hair.” She said, giving him a bright grin. “And... soon? How soon can you plan a proper wedding?” She leaned over to steal a quick kiss--but that totally turned into a proper snog. How could she not kiss him passionately, every chance she got?
“Of course not. I’d never do that” Merlin assured her before kissing her back thoroughly. He definitely couldn’t pass up any chance to snog her properly. “October?” he suggested once his brain cleared, “Two months should be enough”
“October.” Audrey said, nodding. She wrapped her arms up and around him. “Can we have a themed wedding? Halloween? Oooh, can I dress like a witch at the altar?” She was only partially teasing. Think of the possibilities. Corpse Bride? Halloween Cookies as buffet snacks! And everyone in costume?
“We can have whatever you like” Merlin told her, pulling her close against him, “And you can wear whatever you like too” He quite liked the idea of a themed wedding, it’d be a talking point and fun which they both were. Though he did want to see Audrey in a beautiful wedding dress, he could always convince her to take him to some bridal shops he supposed so he could see that.
A themed wedding with two magic users on Halloween? Not that Audrey knew that she was a magic user. Still, by Halloween she would know. She was loving the idea of it already. “Oh my gosh, Merlin, it sounds like so much fun! Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. I love this idea!”
Merlin laughed, hugging her close, “Okay so a Halloween themed wedding” he grinned kissing her lovingly, “Now do you want input?” he teased.
“I can be around to answer questions.” Audrey said, then shrugged. “I don’t care about much. I don’t have preferences. I mean, someone else to make all of the decisions for me? That sounds like a win.” She finished with the flowers and turned around to wrap her arms around him in return. “Orange and black or purple and green?” They sounded like terrible colors for a redhead.
“That’s fine by me love” Merlin said easily, “If it makes you happy I will make all the decisions” When she wrapped her arms around him he kissed her deeply, “Mmmm purple and green, orange would clash wouldn’t it?” he asked twining her hair around his finger.
“Purple and green.” Orange would absolutely clash. “Or simply green and black?” She asked, leaning her head forward to rest against his shoulder as she cuddled close against him. “...let’s go have that shag now.”
“Oh now that’s it, green and black. Those are our wedding colours”. Sliding his hands down and around her he lifted her up, “You never have to request that twice” he grinned as he walked them to her bedroom.
