Tonks entered the bakery slightly nervous but not in a complete panic yet. They had time. They had just under four weeks, she just hoped it was enough time. Audrey seemed nice so Tonks was sure she would say if it was completely impossible or if Tonks’ ideas would need to be adapted.
Walking up to the counter she smiled, “I’m here to see Audrey” she said with a smile.
Audrey heard her name. She was working on stocking sandwich ingredients into the little fridge near the panini press, and turned around. She broke into a smile at the sight of a customer.
The girl behind the counter motioned over her shoulder as Audrey stepped forward.
“I’m Audrey.” Audrey said, holding out her hand. “Audrey Baxter. How can I help you?”
“Hi” Tonks greeted shaking the outstretched hand, “My name’s Tonks, you said to stop by and talk to you about catering my wedding” she explained.
“Oh! Tonks! Hello!” Audrey’s grin brightened considerably, and she shook Tonks’ hand with gusto. “Sure! That sounds great! Come on around,” She said, motioning toward an open table where she’d set a notebook and a couple of pastries. “Can I get you something to drink while we talk?”
“Tea would be great actually” Tonks said, “I’m British in my dreams and I think something is leaking over as my taste for it has increased when I used to be nothing but a coffee girl” she smiled.
“Ha! Okay. Tea it is.” She grinned and nodded. “My fiance is British. And my roommate. They think it’s sacrilege that I drink mine iced.” She poured them each a cup of hot tea, then moved over to the table. “So... tell me about your wedding! I want to hear everything.”
Tonks laughed, “Oh but sometimes there’s nothing better than a nice iced tea. Especially on a nice hot day” she said before sitting. “Well I’m going with an apple/country fair theme...” she began explaining pulling out her ideas wedding book and showing it to Audrey.
Audrey nodded, looking at the pictures, and listening closely. “I love the theme. I can work with apples! What did you have in mind for food? Catering? Sit down meal or buffet?”
"Oh definitely a buffet" Tonks replied, "I want people mingling, dancing, all of that" she explained.
Audrey nodded. “Apples as a theme. You want some really healthy food, I imagine. I can get some chicken and apple sausages, pasta salad with apples and grapes, apple cider and apple turnovers... what do you think?”
“Perfect actually” Tonks said, “Mac makes cider so don’t worry about that aspect of it but the rest sounds great. We should be able to supply you with the apples you need”
“I’ll leave the drinks to the two of you, then? And I’ll handle the rest of the food.” She broke into a grin. “That sounds wonderful. I’ll contact you when I’ve got an idea how many I’ll need. And how many guests are you expecting?”
"That would be great" Tonks nodded, before thinking "No more than fifty, we've kept it pretty close with family and friends. Yourself and Merlin are invited too of course" she added with a smile.
“That’s easy. So, we’ll say fifty. I’ll put together a contract with prices, and include credit for the apples...” Audrey said, making some notes. She turned the binder toward Tonks. “Here are some cakes. What are you thinking for your cake?”
“Well I’m kind of torn on that one” she admitted as she looked at the cakes, “I like the idea of a traditional style one with some apple decorations but there’s also a part of me that likes the idea of a cake shaped like a basket of apples. What do you think?” she asked Audrey.
“Hmm. Well, I’m a bit of a traditionalist, myself. Do you want apple filling in the cake?” Audrey flipped through the binder in front of her and found two pictures. “I’ve done wedding cakes in chocolate and vanilla,” she said, pointing to each picture in turn.
“Apple filling would be lovely” Tonks nodded before looking at the pictures Audrey found, “See now I am definitely drawn towards the traditional vanilla design. It looks fresher if you see what I mean”
“I know what you mean. I can work on it. This is from earlier in my career. What I make for you will be much cleaner. Unless you’re into the rustic look.” Audrey added, quickly. “Our catering service covers plates, utensils, napkins, tablecloths, serving dishes and all of that. You just tell us what colors.”
"Thank you, I'm sure it will look great" Tonks grinned, "Umm I guess red, green and white?"
“Works for me. Though, I’ll do my best to make it not look like the Spanish flag.” Audrey grinned. “We’ll throw some pretty yellows in there, too.”
Tonks laughed, "That's a good idea" she nodded, "You've certainly taken a weight off my mind Audrey, thank you so much"
“Hey, it’s no problem.” Audrey gave her new friend a grin. “I’m excited to help you!”
"I'm excited to be helped" she laughed. And she truly was. This wedding was getting sorted and things were going to be great.
