Jefferson was still slowly getting used to being a full blown business owner. However, the staff he’d hired was making it much easier. They were wonderful - smart, quick and personable. Led, of course, by Alice.

Alice had a gift for this. She was perfect with the customers - even more friendly and approachable than he was. She’d learned things like sizes and terms quickly, and she was getting even better. As he walked out of his office, his eyes instinctively went looking for her - she was on today, and he just enjoyed watching her work.

Alice was working with a bride to figure out what to wear under her dress for her wedding day. They’d picked out a corset since the dress was strapless and off the shoulder, and Alice was currently helping her pick out stockings. “I’d go silk simply because they’ll last just as long as your wedding dress will if you want to keep it and preserve it. Plus, if you can’t spoil yourself on your wedding day, when can you?” Alice giggled with the bride, and the other woman went to try things on.

Jefferson smiled, waiting until the woman had headed off to approach his girl. “Hello, my dear. That looked good.” He kissed her briefly on the cheek. “How’s it going?”

Alice grinned, turning to return Jefferson’s kiss with one on the cheek as well. “It’s going great. I think she’s going to have a great honeymoon. Lucky girl, they’re going to Cabo. I haven’t been there in ages.”

“I’ve never been out of the country, unfortunately. But I hope it’s nice.” He smiled. They’d talked about going to Niagara Falls after the flu scare, but it had never quite happened. “You’re doing wonderfully at this - you’re making the most commission so far, and it isn’t because you’re dating the owner.” Jefferson winked.

“Oh, you know I’d do this without commission,” Alice beamed. She stroked his cheek, thinking about how someday she’d have a honeymoon with him.

“You look very nice, you know.” Jefferson smiled. “Is that one of my pieces you’re wearing, or just something that looks similar?” He hoped it was his, but he wouldn’t have been offended.

“No, it’s one of yours. Do you like it?” She loved the little black dress he’d made for her, and she gave him a little twirl to illustrate.

“It looks brilliant on you.” Better than brilliant. Jefferson grinned, closing his eyes, smiling contentedly. “I’m just so glad you’re happy doing this.” He’d felt a little bit awkward when she’d said she wanted to work here with him.

“It’s fun. I still get to talk with people, and I’m kind of a clotheshorse anyway.” Talking fashion all day certainly wasn’t a burden for Alice.

“You’re an asset.” He smiled at her, feeling somehow warmer when she was near. “Will you come back into my office when you’re done out here?” He had a few things to show her.

“Of course.” She squeezed his hand, dropping it when her customer came back. Soon she’d rung up the sale and left the floor in the hands of one of the other customer service people who was only more than happy to scoop up Alice’s sales.

Jefferson had his portfolio out when Alice came back to the office. “I wanted to show you these,” he said without preamble. He held out the sketches. “I designed a few custom pieces meant for couples. Would you tell me if you think they’re silly?” Alice would always be honest with him, regardless of their relationship.

He’d designed a jacket and trousers set for a man, and a sweater dress for a lady. The jacket was a muted green, and the pattern in the skirt picked up the green, but only just, and the jacket’s pocket square was the same pattern as the sweater dress. “The idea is for special occasions - to show that you’re a couple, but not in such a silly way as wearing identical outfits or what have you.”

She moved to look at the sketches, sitting down near him and gaping. “These are gorgeous! I’d kill for that dress, it’s lovely.” She turned her head to kiss his cheek, beaming. “Have I told you today you’re gifted?”

“I don’t expect such extravagant praise.” Jefferson chuckled. “But thank you. I just didn’t know if it was a silly idea, and I trust your opinion, obviously.” He wrapped one arm around her, kissing her on the mouth gently.

“I think it’s a fantastic idea,” she smiled, though she stopped talking when she was kissed.

He’d gotten very fond of kissing her, in general. Jefferson pulled her closer, resting his hands on her hips, liking the closeness. He’d slowly gotten less nervous about showing her affection that didn’t come in words, and in truth, he’d almost forgotten how nice it was to kiss someone. To be closer.

Alice wrapped her arms around Jefferson, fingers curling in the soft hair at the base of his neck, purring a little to herself. She loved him, she had for a long time, and it was heaven to finally be able to tell him without words.

Even though they were at work, even though it was his office, Jefferson couldn’t entirely help himself. He slid a hand underneath her skirt, touching her stockings, even going a little further up than he normally would. This was somehow delicious. Forbidden.

Even though he couldn’t see it, an eyebrow arched up and she bit back a giggle. “Are you seducing me on the clock, Mr. Chapelier?”

“Maybe.” Jefferson couldn’t help but grin. He kept his hand up there, even copping a little squeeze.

Alice felt her cheeks go pink. “Good.” She couldn’t help biting her lip and giggling. “It’s kind of nice.”

“Well, I’m glad to hear that.” Jefferson couldn’t help but grin himself. “You know how I feel about you, Alice.” He nuzzled at her neck, keeping his hand under her skirt, smiling when she moved against him.

“I do. You know how I feel about you.” Alice blushed a little; she’d been in love with Jefferson for a while, but she hadn’t thought they’d do anything physical for a while.

Jefferson nodded, enjoying their closeness. He rather liked this new, bold feeling, and took the chance of kissing her more, reaching up a little to rest a hand on her rear end. “Just stop me if you wish,” he told her, murmured against her mouth.

She would never. She’d wanted him to do something like this for months, and she shivered, moving closer to him. “I should lock the door,” she whispered, shifting her weight so she could move closer to him.

“Good idea.” Jefferson gently two-stepped her backward, fumbling for the lock himself. He got it on the third try, then went back to kissing her. He wasn’t entirely sure where this was coming from, but something had to give. Also, the idea of doing this in a semi-public space was exciting. He slipped both hands back under her skirt, smiling.

She was still leaning against the door when he got it locked, and she found herself moving a leg a bit higher up to wrap around his waist, to pull him closer and to hold him near her. She had no idea where this was going, but she liked it.

Alice was responding, and Jefferson got the idea to do something vaguely wild. He picked her up, wrapping her other leg around his waist and carrying her to his desk chair. He set her down and sank to his knees, smirking faintly. “Why did you wear stockings?” he murmured, mostly rhetorically.

She eeped faintly when he picked her up, giggling and kissing him as they walked. She made a little bit of a sad sound when he set her down, eyebrows raising when he knelt in front of her. “Because I like to look nice when I go to work?”

“I suppose that’s acceptable. And normally I’d be behind it.” Jefferson didn’t want to lose his nerve; before he could say anything stupid, he reached up to try and help her out of them. Best not to run them or destroy them; it would look conspicuous later.

She bit her lower lip, hooking her thumbs into them and rolling them down and off of her legs. She also pinched her arm a little, just to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

She wasn’t. Jefferson kissed his way up her leg, smiling when he felt her react. He lingered around her knee, slipping his head under her skirt. He did remember doing this to Caroline, but it was a fond memory. She’d liked it; maybe Alice would, too.

He waited a bit, eventually nosing near her upper thigh. He didn’t go anywhere near her intimate areas - not yet - instead enjoying a little teasing.

Alice looked down at him. “Jefferson - are you sure?”

He didn’t answer. He just kept nibbling, kept nosing at her skin. He wanted her to be happy. Because of him.

Well, apparently he was sure. She just closed her eyes, leaning back. She’d waited a long time for anything like this, and if he was ready, she wasn’t going to turn him down.

He felt ready. Jefferson felt her react when he nosed up against the side of her thigh, his hand on her skin at the curve of her ankle, breathing in her scent. He slid his hand up as he switched his mouth to her other leg, slipping just a finger under her panties. He was a little nervous, but excited. Even impatient.

She couldn’t help but watch him as he moved, one hand moving down to trail her fingers in his hair. She wanted to tell him that she loved him, but it wouldn’t be the right moment. So she waited, breath coming in ragged little gasps.

He didn’t want to use his mouth on her - not here, it wasn’t right - but he slipped his fingers forward a little more. He wanted to learn her before they really did anything physical. Jefferson kept nuzzling and moving around, but now he was sliding her panties aside, letting his thumb start to tease her most intimate places.

Alice wanted to stay quiet, so she put her hand over her mouth to muffle a whimper, a ragged urgent noise. It had been about six months since anyone but herself had done that, and she’d never gone that long before in her life.

That noise was a huge charge. Jefferson sighed delightedly, stroking a little more. This felt just like the time he’d felt up Caroline in the movie theater on their third date. And taking cues from the past wasn’t the same as reliving it. He kissed her thigh, running his free hand down her leg, just wanting to touch her as much as possible.

She knew it wouldn’t take much to get her off, especially when he was sighing and looking like he was truly enjoying himself. So many men wouldn’t have enjoyed themselves.

He was, honestly. He felt excited that he’d acquired the guts to do this and please her. Jefferson liked her scent, her smooth skin, and how exposed they were. He murmured her name softly against the skin of her inner thigh, one finger joining his thumb in teasing her.

She ran her fingers through his hair lightly, gently scritching his scalp. She just liked that he was doing this for her, that he was actually wanting to do it. It meant a lot for her to know that he wanted to touch her. She’d started to think he wasn’t into the physical aspects of a relationship, she’d resigned herself to not being able to be with him.

He definitely wanted to touch her. He’d just been scared. Jefferson started to move his hand faster, wondering what might happen if he really got her going.

What happened was that she gasped, bit her lower lip hard and whimpered. She gripped the sides of his chair, trying not to wiggle too much or make too much noise. “Jefferson,” she murmured quietly, hoping he knew that she was happy but that he wasn’t obligated.

That noise was delightful. Jefferson sighed, smiling, continuing his ministrations. This was new to him, and he wanted more, quite simply. The feeling of making her make that noise was heady, to say the least.

She thought of all the things she wanted to do for him, provided he’d let her sometime soon. She could feel herself getting closer, and she was grateful. She’d been on edge for a while, and his help meant a lot. She felt loved, and that alone made her break out into gooseflesh.

Jefferson kept going, breathing gently against her skin, his hand speeding up just a bit. “Come on, my dear,” he murmured, smiling, hoping she wasn’t too loud, but secretly hoping she might be.

After six months of buildup, it was inevitable that she’d let out some sort of noise. Her whimpered moan wasn’t too loud, not loud enough to be heard on the sales floor, but if someone was walking down the hall, they’d likely have heard it. She had the presence of mind to bite down on her own fingers to keep herself from growing louder still.

Jefferson just laughed softly. He kept going until she’d melted back into the chair, finally removing his head from under her skirt. He got up, though he leaned over to kiss her firmly. “Good thing we didn’t rip your stockings.”

“I could always just leave them off,” she murmured, still breathing hard. Pulling him closer, she kissed him more firmly, tugging him toward her. “Jefferson? I really do love you. I want you to know that.”

“Of course I know that.” Jefferson looked surprised. “I love you, Alice. I always have.”

Her brown eyes softened, and she ran her fingers through his hair. “Really?”

“Of course.” Jefferson looked sober. “Did you doubt that?” He felt a twinge of guilt, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her to her feet.

“No. I know you do now. I just didn’t know when you started.” She stood, wiggling her stockings into place, and embraced him.

Jefferson kissed her gently. “I think I fell in love with you right before the flu epidemic, in truth.” They’d just had such a good time together. It had been life-changing, even then.

Alice’s eyes watered, and she chuckled happily. “Same. I’d say it’s the first time I met you, really.”

“At your club? I would hope not, I was mopey and awkward.” Jefferson smiled, looking down.

“You were charming and sweet.” Alice grinned and tipped his chin upward so she could kiss him.

Jefferson closed his eyes, sighing against her mouth. “We should probably unlock the door,” he said regretfully. “Alas.”

“We still have an evening after work,” Alice grinned. “Maybe Gracie should sleep over at a friend’s house. Or we could get a sitter later on this week.”

“Later this week would be good.” Jefferson leaned on the door, though he did go kiss her again. “I wouldn’t want to surprise her tonight or anything; it’d be a bit sudden.” He was blushing, looking down. “I don’t know, I just ... felt bold, somehow. I think it’s a good sign.”

“When you’re ready, we’ll figure it out.” She tiptoed up to kiss him lightly before unlocking the door. “We’ve got all the time in the world.”

“Isn’t it nice?” Jefferson smiled at her conspiratorially. This could be wonderful.
