Thor was waiting at the restaurant when the clock struck time for their meeting. He had not been back here, not since their not date, the last of it’s kind, right before his accident, her arrangement with Obi, and his coma. It had been a long few months, indeed.
Now, he was married, confident, and filming the second of two huge movies that might fail or might be blockbusters. He was unsure which they would be, honestly. But he hoped tonight went well. He was not sure why he was here, really, but that he had a hard time not helping people.
Faiza was in a word, nervous. She didn't know why she wanted advice from Thor, except that she trusted him and her feelings about him had once been very very complicated. She knew he was happy now, but she still felt a great deal of guilt around him and their relationship.
She walked up to the table right on time, and gave him a nervous smile. "Hello duck, you're looking quite godly today if I do say so."
He rose, and bowed to her, chuckling. “I am but a man, Faiza. No matter how much power I have.” He moved to pull out her chair for her. “Please sit. Will you take wine?”
“No, but thank you. Just water for me.” She waved a hand lightly at him, and took a seat. “I hear you’re doing magnificently!”
He smiled and poured water from a carafe, and then raised his glass to her. “It’s been a good few months and I have been very lucky. I hope things are good for you too.” He nodded.
“They’ve been looking up. At least I thought they were looking up and now I’m not so sure if they’re looking up.” And really she was probably being unfair to Obi but she had been a little miffed at his line of questioning in their messages to one another.
Thor squinted at her, then nodded slowly. “Sometimes, it is hard to tell where one is. Things get obscured, and the lay of the land becomes unfamiliar, and even one’s heart becomes unsure of what one knows to be true.” His voice was gentle. and his eyes understanding. She must be having something very disturbing to be talking so and he sighed internally, wishing he had a clue to help.
Faiza fidgeted with her scarf, then took a drink of her water. "It's normal to feel for someone in a dream and still want to be with the person you're with, right? There's no reason to fear your lover will go gallivanting off with her dream partner the moment he shows up?"
“No. But it’s also human to be jealous, and fearful of losing that which we most hold dear.” He sighed. “And sometimes, when faced with fears, people are stupid.” He favored her with a simple smile. “I loved another in my dreams, yet did not love her here when faced with her. I love Natasha, and no one else.” He nodded to her, his words soft, and not vehement, but absolutely certain. “But I could see, and have known, those who are jealous, to easily see fear and loss where there will be none.”
She nodded her head, and dropped her hands to the table. “Obi fears what could happen if Dane comes to this county, and remembers. I don’t know if I got him to understand that no matter how I feel about Dane, I love him. And so he’s being a bit of an arse.”
Thor nodded, wincing a bit. “It is hard for some people to see any sort of threat to their relationships and not react, even if the threat is wholy imagined.” He sighed. “I’m sorry. HAs he told you how he feels or is he just acting out, without talking?”
“We talked about it. I think it’s symptomatic of other things, and we’re working through that.” Well, they’d agreed he should seek therapy, but she wasn’t going to air his dirty laundry for him. “I’m very upset over the whole thing. And a little angry, whether that’s fair or not. I think he’s being a bit hypocritical.”
“It’s hard not to be angry when you feel somewhat betrayed. It is hard to not feel hurt, when to feel wrongly pushed. JUst remember you love him, and that the only way you can get through this is talking.” He licked his lips quietly. “Sometimes, all there is for a relationship is talking, and hope.”
"I do need to talk to him I suppose. I'm just a little worried where the conversation might go." She wanted him to do this therapy thing before they discussed this. She thought it was important he get his head in order.
“But if you do not, silence will grow, and only pain comes from that sort of silence, pain, and endings.” He nodded to her. “You are a brave woman, Faiza. Do not let fear lead you to not act.”
“I know you’re right.” Faiza’s shoulders sank a little. She was afraid of what could happen. Obi had told her he didn’t trust her, and it made her feel a little trapped in a way that she hadn’t before. Like any choice on her part had been taken away. “I suppose I’ll give him the infamous ‘we need to talk’ speech.”
“Or just ask him how he feels, and if he wants to talk. If he does not... then perhaps it is time to give him that speech. Hopefully, he will realize the time for talking is here before that.” Thor was hopeful things would get straightened out. For all he was not a fan of Faiza’s, he was not a fan of anyone being hurt.
She nodded. “Thank you..I feel bad bringing this to you, but the only other advice I was getting was to be very very blunt and I’m not sure that would serve as well here.” And taking advice from Wisdom? A little scary.
“I think, if there is any other advice I can give, it is to try to talk to him in his language. Try to hear him in his as well. We all have our own, and we hear and see things in it. For a relationship to work, it has to consist of people willing to see things in he other person’s language.”
Thor nodded, eyes warm and soft.
“For a man like him, who can sense any emotion, that might be harder than you think for me to relate.” Faiza laughed softly, and nodded her head. “I’ll do my best.”
“It is always hard. But I have faith in you. If you try, you will find a way.” He nodded to her again. “And that is all you can do. Try.” Then he smiled again. “Now, how is work?”
“Bloody busy, both at the ranch and at Hospital. Not counting my little side-business healing mutants...” Faiza chuckled. “I’m considering leaving the hospital entirely.”
Thor nodded. “In a certain sense it makes sense. What about the clinic?” He had himself been seen by her there, once upon a time.”
“I’m down to about once a week. I’m wondering if I should help them find a replacement,” Faiza replied.
Thor nodded. “If you feel so, then follow your heart.”
He had faith she would find her way. For her, anyway.
