Who: Niklaus Mikaelson & Caroline Forbes
What: Bumping into each other and cuteness!
Where: Caroline’s house, to start with
When: July 20th, before they meet the group at Disney
Rating: Low, just some adorbs
It had been weeks since Nik had overheard Elena and Caroline talking at school one day before graduation. They’d been planning a group outing to Disneyland. Or, rather, Elena had been planning one and Caroline had been insisting she couldn’t afford to go. Nik knew he should stay out of it. He knew there was something not right about getting involved in a student’s life, even if he was only a sub. Caroline was different, though. Nik had felt a connection to the girl even before she’d been his student. He hadn’t known who she was the day he pulled that asshole off of her, the one who had been hitting her on a seemingly deserted street. From that moment, Nik had felt the urge to protect the girl. He told himself it was that and nothing else. He just didn’t like seeing a young woman treated that way. Nik had kept his eyes and ears open, so when the day arrived, he showed up on Caroline’s doorstep, Disneyland tickets and a pair of mouse ears in hand. Hopefully, she wouldn’t think he was a complete creeper for doing this. Nik just couldn’t stand the thought that she would have to sit at home while all of her friends were off having fun. She had been extremely bummed out when she had to decline to go to Disneyland with her friends. She just couldn't afford to make it happen. Care did her best to not let her friends see how disappointed she was. She really did want them to have a good time even if she couldn't go with them! Caroline had been grateful for Nik's - Mr. Mikaelson's presence that day on the street. But she had also been embarrassed. He had seen her in a situation that she didn't want anyone else to know about. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment anytime they crossed paths after that night. She hadn't been expecting anyone. She figured it might have been a delivery or the mailman. When she opened the door to see Nik standing on the other side Care was more than a little confused. "Hey Mr. Mikaelson," she greeted. The sight of the Mickey ears garnered a smile from her. Care was a little unsure of what he was doing here but if what she thought was true...she couldn't let him do that! “Nik, Caroline. School’s out, call me Nik.” He smiled at the girl in front of him. Even in a tank top and cutoffs, she was beautiful. He told himself he shouldn’t think that, but school was out. Caroline was no longer a student, which meant he was no longer her teacher. He hoped that meant they could be friends. He smirked as he placed the mouse ears on top of her head. “You have a date with a mouse, Miss Forbes,” he told her as he produced the tickets. His tone was light and Nik was clearly in a good mood. Truth be told, he loved surprising the people he cared about, whether it was his sister or this girl who had somehow gotten under his skin. "Nik," she repeated as a little laughed escaped her lips. It was a little weird calling someone who had been a teacher by their first name. Even if he was only a sub and hadn't been her teacher for that long. She full on giggled when he placed the ears on her head. A part of her wanted to just say yes and go but she couldn't accept that. It was a lot of money. She would know. She wasn't going because it exceeded the contents of her bank account! "As much as I'd love a date with a mouse...I couldn't let you do that," she insisted, even though it practically killed her to say no to the thought of spending the day with Nik and her friends at the happiest place on earth. “It’s already done, Caroline,” he argued. “The tickets are bought, so the money’s already spent.” He flashed her his most charming grin and hoped she would give in. It was true that he already had the tickets. And that he couldn’t exactly take them back for a refund. If she continued to resist, he would, of course, continue to be charming and he was certain that he could convince her to relent. Nik hoped it wouldn’t take too much time, though. The longer they stood here debating it, the less time they’d have at Disneyland. "But.." She started though her reasons for protesting were dwindling. It was true. He already had the tickets which helped crumble what little of her resolve remained. The way he was looking at her wasn't helping the matter either. It was also really hard to say no to Disneyland. "On one condition...that you let me make it up to you somehow," Care insisted. She was used to working for everything. It felt a little weird to let him do this. Especially when most of her boyfriends did often pay for things that they did. And in her mind it sounded like a fair deal. She would go if at some point in the future she was allowed to do something nice for him in return. “That’s a deal I don’t mind making,” he answered her with a smile. Of course, he wasn’t going to let her put herself out too much in making this up to him, but it was easy to agree to her terms now. Especially when it meant she was agreeing to this so easily. “The pleasure of your company really is repayment enough, though,” he added smoothly. It was true, even if it sounded like a cheesy line. Nik liked Caroline. It was worth the cost of a tickey to Disneyland to have an excuse to spend time with him. Even if he'd been a teacher it was no secret that a good percentage of the high school students found Nik attractive. And Caroline often had a problem saying no to attractive guys. Her track record was proof enough. That combined with it being Disneyland...a place she had always wanted to go. A place she always fantasized about running away to. It was famed for being the happiest place in the world after all. The polar opposite of her own residence. It really was a wonder she was able to decline at all. "Then it's a deal," she agreed, smiling at him. "I'm pretty sure my company pales in comparison to a day at DISNEY. Or something equally as awesome." It was a deal she would be honoring. She'd have to figure out someway to make it up to him. Something that was hopefully in the same league as the day he was giving her. She couldn't wait to see her friends! To see their faces when she said she was going. Excitement was bubbling up inside her just at the thought. She felt like a kid on Christmas. "Thank you," she said, with the biggest, goofiest smile on her face. It was a simple statement but she hoped it somehow conveyed the overwhelming gratitude she felt. Nik understood more than she might imagine. He didn’t know the details, but he’d seen enough to know her life wasn’t as perfect as many of her peers might think it was. He’d seen enough of the men she spent her time with to know there had to be more to it than even he had guessed. Nik was good at reading people and at picking up on things and what he had observed about Caroline only made him want to protect her more. “There, that smile on your face is reward enough,” he told her truthfully. He’d done this not entirely unselfishly. It was an excuse to spend time with the girl, after all. But seeing how happy she was right now was its own reward. Nik wanted nothing more in this moment than to keep her smiling like that. “You’re very welcome,” he added as he extended his arm for her to take. Somehow, he knew this was going to be a fantastic day for the both of them. Care gave him a look that hopefully showed she did not agree. "Definitely not an appropriate reward for DISNEY. I'll come up with something though," she told him, grinning. If nothing else, when Caroline set her mind on something or had an idea there really wasn't any deterring her from it. She was a girl who liked to plan and coordinate things. She was queen of list making. If she could put together the perfect dance she knew she could figure out something he would like. She took his extended hand feeling much better about today than she did an hour ago. |
