Faye was taking her time in getting to work, she was always the first one there anyway and since the attacks had stopped and it was safe too she decided to walk. She was thinking about Merle and her sister and a few other things which meant she wasn’t really paying attention to where she was going and bumped into someone.
“Sorry” she said before looking up, “Mary?” she questioned as she saw the woman in front of her, “Oh my god. What on earth are you doing here?”
Mary blinked when she saw someone from her past that she recognized. “Faye? Holy shit, really? I just moved here. What’re you doing here?”
“No way” Faye grinned, “I moved out here last September. Time to settle a little you know? Give Vika some stability so she could finish school and maybe go to college” Her adopted sister had been the biggest reason for her settling and keeping out of trouble. Mostly.
That made Mary nod with recognition. “I always figured you’d quit the game before me. I’m still playing, though.”
“Needs must. And I’m doing pretty well now” Faye told her, “What game have you got going on here?” she asked interestedly.
“Eh, old doctor, he’s well off. Standard long inheritance con” Mary’s blue eyes twinkled, and she couldn’t help laughing. “He thinks I’m a sweet Catholic girl. Have an interview soon.”
Faye laughed too, “Clever girl” she nodded, “Oh really? Well in that case I’m glad we ran into one another now. I’ll be sure not to give you away”
“Thank you so much. It’ll be hard to keep from dropping f-bombs once I’ve reeled him in some.” Mary ran her fingers through her hair, sighing. “Fuck, and I’ll have to quit smoking for a while, everyone can smell that.”
“I know right?” Faye agreed, “Once of the hardest things is dropping your natural way of speaking. You’ll do fine, I’d say come along to the club I manage every now and then but I guess good little catholic girls don’t do that”
“Nope. Maybe I can pretend I’m helping people out downtown or something. Ministering to unfortunate, debaucherous souls.” Mary’s smile grew wicked.
"I'm sure that would work" Faye smirked, "I know quite a few debaucherous souls who would love to meet you" she winked.
“Oh, thank god,” Mary laughed. “It’s been ... Christ, a month?”
“By god woman how the hell are you still functioning?” Faye gaped.
“Battery operated boyfriend,” Mary sighed. “Fuck, if my mark ever comes over to my place, I’ll have to hide that, too. I’ll have to pretend I’m a quasivirgin.”
Faye snorted, "Can you even remember what it was like?" she teased her friend with a wink, "I know I can't"
“Being a virgin? It’s just ... boring, really.” Mary laughed to herself. “I tend to just err on the side of being quiet when I do jobs like this.”
"Safest option" Faye nodded, "Besides you play it right they'll just assume anyway and it won't be brought up" Guys loved to think they were a girls first or as close enough to.
“Exactly. I just clam up.” Mary grinned to herself, wrinkling her nose. “I can’t believe I’m doing the innocent girl gambit again. I suck at it.”
“You’ll do fine” Faye assured her, “I have every faith in your abilities. And if it gets a bit too much just swing by my place, nobody needs to know”
Mary chuckled. “Oh? You’re going to counsel me?” She batted her eyelashes and grinned.
“My dear I will do anything I can to help” Faye assured her with a slow smile.
“Maybe I’ll have to swing by,” Mary grinned. “I feel a crisis of faith coming on.”
“Then I may have to insist you do, we cannot have you alone in a time of crisis after all”
“Thank you, Faye.” Mary hugged her friend. “I’m glad you’re here, really.”
Faye hugged back, “I’m glad you’re here too and seriously if you need me you know I’m always here right?” they had to stick together, be it for fun or anything else.
“Of course. I’m so glad that we’re back in touch,” Mary beamed. “I’m sad we ever lost touch in the first place.”
“Me too” Faye said, “It was my fault, we had to run fast and we had not time to do anything” She’d won the wrong poker game and sent people after her.
“I figured it was something like that. We’ll just have to make sure we stay in touch now.” Mary fished out her cell phone and asked for Faye’s number. She’d text her, so that Faye had her number.
“Totally” Faye agreed giving Mary her number, “There we go, no getting away now” she grinned.
“I wouldn’t want to, gorgeous.” Mary leaned over to peck the other woman on the mouth, chuckling. “See you soon, then.”
“Glad to hear it” Faye replied kissing her in return, “See you later babe”
