"Yes. Weird." He felt as though he probably came off as awkward or, at the very least, stoic. Spock was terrible with emotions and social interactions on the best of days. Being thrown into a new situation made him even more anxious.
As she sized him up, Spock did the same to her. His initial fear of meeting strangers melted ever so slightly the more she spoke. There was something about her that seemed comforting, maybe even familiar. When he looked at her, he noticed first her keen eye. She was definitely analyzing him. There was intelligence in her eyes, which Spock could appreciate. She was pretty and thin, but he could just see the hint of muscles in her arm when she shifted closer. Spock realized he was sitting across from a woman, not the sort of willowy nerd-girls or the bubbly valley girls that his coworkers would sometimes tell stories about when there was nothing else to do between classes.
"We moved to California when I was young... ten years old. But my family and I lived farther north. I moved down here a while ago now." He paused to think. "More than five years ago. I can understand that feeling of being... an outsider. I never really did peacefully assimilate into what classmates thought was a proper Californian." He almost smiled. "Why don't you think you fit here?"
