When their eyes met and Uhura nodded, Spock felt butterflies rise in his stomach. It wasn't especially dignified to feel that way, and Spock couldn't help but feel embarrassed about it. But for all outward appearances, he seemed entirely calm and cool as he walked over to the table with a small cup in hand.
"That's right," Spock nodded as he took a seat. This was quite possibly a horrible mistake, he thought quietly to himself. At the same time, he couldn't help but feel a sort of victory in the fact that she actually was a girl and was also pretty.
"Nice to meet you." He put his notebook face down on the table and laid the cup right beside it. For a moment, he considered raising a hand for a handshake, as this was his typical greeting for coworkers and coworkers who were friends, but that seemed too formal. Instead, he simply tried to not look as stern as he usually did and said, "This isn't something I normally do, so I hope you'll excuse me for nervousness."
