Hermione was far from useless, though sometimes she felt as much. She’d taken to carrying her wand and going over the DADA spells that she’d learned during her years at Hogwarts in her dreams. She could likely hold her own, but she would much rather be around other people. Hence apparating straight to Kitty’s doorstep and knocking. She hoped that her friend was home.
Kitty was home. She was still a little sore from the fighting, but her spirits were high in light of other things. She opened the door and smiled. “hey! You okay. Weren’t followed by zombies?”
“I don’t think so. I apparated.” Hermione had been really nervous about it, but she hadn’t splinched anything. Surprisingly. “Are you all right? I wanted to check in.”
“I’m okay. Survived the trials and tribulations that make up my life in general.” Kitty stepped aside to let Hermione in.
Hermione stepped inside and glanced around. Making sure they were alone, or checking for differences from the last time she was visiting. “Surviving is good. I wish we could all thrive, but I know there’s a time and a place for everything. Have you... um... been fighting blue zombies?”
“Not really, if I can avoid it. Had too much action last week," Kirty rubbed at the back of her neck.
Hermione gave a little nod. “How are you? I mean, after everything?” She was waiting to be told the whole story.
“Tired.” She smiled. “And looking forward rather than back. Cerberus grabbed some friends, but they’re okay. Physically, anyway.”
“Looking forward is good.” Hermione paused. “Cerberus? You mean... the three-headed dog that guards The Underworld?”
“Yeah, it’s a terrorist group. They’re the ones that blew up the plane me and Xi’an were on.” Kitty rubbed at her shoulder.
“Oh, Jesus, Kitty.” Hermione said, frowning. “I’m so sorry.” She added, shaking her head. “Gosh, you just need a few days off, you know? Go stay at a spa or something.”
“Not a bad idea. Maybe if things seem to calm for a few days. After we deal with this husk menace!”
“Right. So glad I learned to apparate properly.” Thanks to her dreams, anyway. “Now I don’t have to go outside to get from my home to the library.”
“Must be handy. You’ve also got an Enterprise to escape to.” Kitty was mildly jealous at the idea.
“Yep.” Hermione said, nodding. “It’s... it’s like... our own little world. I mean, I know it’s not, but.” She shrugged. “Our own little world that Scotty, Spock and Leonard go to as well?”
She grinned. “Still, it’s a ship designed for like 400 people. Having four or five probably means you have a ton of space.”
“Oh yeah. There’s plenty of space. We can... y’know... Christen whichever rooms we want.” Hermione went pink, but grinned.
“What’s your favorite?” Kitty asked, leaning in and smiling lecherously. She was more than happy to turn the tables onto her friend.
The blush on Hermione’s cheeks deepened so much it was splotchy. “...the Transporter Bay.” She said, softly. Though, she was grinning, too. “And the Bridge.”
“...tell me you did it on the Captain’s chair?” Kitty raised her eyebrows. “What was that like, launch any torpedoes on accident?”
Hermione laughed, totally embarrassed, but proud at the same time. “...no torpedoes were launched. Any of the times we used the Captain’s Chair.”
“Not counting Jim’s, right?”
“Nah. Doubt we could count those.” Hermione laughed.
Kitty refrained from the joke she could make, and scooted closer, hugging Hermione. “Thanks...I really needed this.”
Hermione wrapped her arms around her friend for a tight hug. “Anytime, Kitty. Really. Anytime.”
