Draco checked the address on the piece of paper before tucking it away. Well this was definitely the place, it looked nice from the outside. Welcoming.
Opening the door he stepped inside, the welcome feeling only increased and was joined by wonderful smells. Draco didn't have an overly large sweet tooth but he knew he'd be buying some cake or pastries to take back to his husband.
Heading to the counter he smiled, "Hi I'm uh looking for Audrey" he said.
Audrey was actually in the back, and one of the girls who worked for her was at the register. She gave Draco a bright smile as he came in. “Sure, just a sec!” Then she disappeared into the back room, giggling.
Audrey came out a moment later, dusting her hands on her apron. “Hello? I’m Audrey Baxter.”
Ah giggling girls, he was scarily used to them after the gaggle who had taken it upon themselves to become his unofficial fanclub.
"Hi, I'm Draco. You said I should drop by to play for you" he smiled and gestured at his guitar, "so here I am. Is that okay?"
“Oh, Draco!” Audrey’s expression of curiosity turned into a bright grin. “Of course! I’d love to hear you play. Do you... need anything special? I don’t have speakers, or anything.”
"Nope I'm good. Acoustic works for me" he smiled, "Am I alright to grab a chair? I can set up in the corner and be out of the way"
“Yeah, definitely.” Audrey said. She moved with him to the corner of the room where no one would pass by him (away from the counter and the bathrooms) and started to clear some chairs, making a makeshift stage. If she was going to get a piano, which she was considering, it would go over here.
“Whenever you’re ready, Mr. Malfoy.” She said. Audrey took a seat nearby to listen.
Draco almost smirked as she called him Mr Malfoy but managed not to. Taking a breath he strummed the guitar, it was perfectly in tune as always. Deciding to start with a cover instead of his own song he began ‘Skyfall’.
Audrey was hypnotized by the music. At least, that’s how she felt. It was absolutely beautiful. She closed her eyes as she listened, thoroughly enjoying his singing, the guitar, it was wonderful.
Draco strummed and sang, losing himself to the music as he always did. It was such a part of who he was that it came naturally to him.
Coming to an end he held the note as the chord faded before looking over at Audrey with a smile.
Audrey clapped. That was amazing. She broke into a really bright smile as she looked over at Draco. “Let me hear more.” She said, though he could just come in and play that song over and over and she was sure people would love it.
Draco chuckled, “Thank you” he said before acquiescing to her request and beginning to play. This time he chose one of his own, he had written it fairly recently with Zuko in mind. As most of his recent songs were.
Audrey went quiet again as she listened to the song. It was really beautiful. She leaned against the chair next to her own, cuddling up just a bit as she let the music wash over her.
Draco moved almost effortlessly from one song to another before coming to a finish. He placed the guitar down and rubbed his neck in a nervous gesture Zuko would have recognised instantly.
Audrey sat up and clapped when he was finished performing. Many other patrons of the cafe were also clapping. He’d done a magnificent job, and Audrey was very impressed. “Oh, Draco.”
“Thanks” Draco said before moving over to Audrey, “So that was okay?” he asked.
“That was wonderful! More than okay.” She said, standing up. She reached forward to wrap her arms around his neck for a quick hug (awkward with the guitar in the way, but she managed) then pulled back just as suddenly. “Thursdays okay?”
Draco laughed but awkwardly tried to hug her back, "Yeah that's great. Thanks Audrey, I'm glad you liked it"
“Of course I did! I can’t wait to have you playing here. Hopefully with some regularity. And for the Gala, of course! I’ll make sure to set aside a good amount of time for you.”
“Thank you. Any time would be brilliant” he assured her, “I’ll be sure to bring everybody I know along to the Gala too”
“Hey, the more business you bring in, the more often you can play. And I’ll talk to my accountant about how much we have in the budget to pay you, too.” She beamed. This was turning into a wonderful thing.
“Don’t worry too much about it” Draco assured her, “Getting people to know and recognise my music is just as if not more important than payment right now” It would be great to have an established fanbase before he even released anything.
Audrey nodded. “Well, I’m sure you’ll have a group of fans here. I’ll be one of them!” She said, grinning brightly. “All right, let me get you a drink or something before you go? Or you’re welcome to stay and play, of course, but I gotta get back. We’ve got a new girl who probably needs help.”
"Thanks, I will be sure to dedicate a song to you as my first official fan" he grinned, "Actually I did spot a pastry when I came in that I'm planning to buy for my husband" he told her, "so let your new girl practice on me"
“Sounds perfect.” Audrey said. “Whenever you’re ready head on over to the counter. We’ll get you that pastry, and send you on your way.” She gave Draco a grin, then stood and hurried off around the counter to help the girls.
“Thanks” Draco smiled with a nod before packing away his guitar and heading over to the counter. A regular gig and a pastry for his husband. Yep this had gone well.
