Who: Brienne and Margaery What: Taking down bad guys When: This past weekend Where: Out and about Rating: PG for uh.. wallet stealing. Status: Complete
Brienne was just getting out of one of her training classes, now that she was joining the police force. There was a lot to learn and it seemed like all of her free time was spent training. Ah well. She headed out by herself, thinking about getting something to eat. Walking along and minding her own business, some guy made the unfortunate mistake of trying to take her wallet.
She took off after him and tackled him to the ground not too far along, though it did happen to be right in front of Margaery’s feet.
“Oh my” Margaery said as the thief and Brienne ended up in front of her, “I do believe you picked the wrong woman to mess with” she commented with a smile.
This wasn’t quite what she had been expecting when she had decided to walk from the coffee shop to the library but she had to admit she was intrigued. Particularly when she realised she recognised the woman.
Brienne roughed him up a bit and managed to find her wallet before stuffing it back in her pants and standing up. She didn’t know whether to call the cops since she was one now. Even if she wasn’t authorized to make any arrests.
“Would you mind uh.. getting that cop over there?” she asked the other woman, gesturing to the one across the way who was sort of on his way over.
“Of course” Margaery agreed, moving away to retrieve the police officer explaining what had happened on the way. Once he had spoken to Brienne and had the man in custody Margaery came forward, “Are you okay?” she asked.
Brienne happily gave the man over to the cop and then gave her statement about what happened. She was glad someone had seen and could back her up. She nodded a bit, dusting herself off a little. “I’m pretty sure, yes. Thank you for doing that. I can’t believe the nerve of some people.”
“Oh you are welcome. I am just glad I could be of some assistance” Margaery replied, “You would think he would not have picked somewhere so close to a police station” she added with a small smile, “But some people are not born smart”
“I really don’t get dumb criminals. But I guess that’s why. Because they’re dumb.” Maybe Brienne watched too much of that show that was about stupid criminals on video. “Exactly. I’m just glad I got my wallet back. I guess I’ll have to get used to that sort of thing. Next week I’ll be the one chasing them down and taking them to jail.”
“Oh you have just passed?” Margaery checked, “That is wonderful. Congratulations and well done” she smiled, “Can I buy you a celebratory coffee?” she offered.
“I did. Oh thank you.” Brienne smiled a bit and then nodded. “Well sure, if you’d like to. I never say no to a free coffee.”
“I would indeed like to” Margaery grinned, “And maybe you can tell me why you decided to become a law enforcement officer”
“All right, I can do that.” Brienne let Margaery take her into the coffee shop that was nearby. Once they had their coffee and were sitting at a table, she sipped her drink and hm’d. “Well I’ve been in the army for a long while now. I’m home for good now.. well unless something happens.”
“Oh my” Margaery said, though she wasn’t entirely surprised. It appeared she was a dedicated fighter here as much as she was in the dreams. “Are you from an army family?” she asked.
She gave a small nod in response. “My dad was in the army. I’m their only child though. My mother worries too much. I don’t think being a police officer is going to help anything. But it’s what I want to do.”
“That is the most important thing I think” Margaery said, “And I am sure that your mother will come round. After all I am sure she wants you to do what makes you happy even if she worries”
“You’re probably right. I’m sure she’ll come around. I don’t expect her not to worry, just as long as she doesn’t give me a hard time about it.” Somehow Brienne was going to be used to that, she feared. “I thought I was going to be stuck waitressing for the rest of my days.”
“I do not know you that well but I believe that path would not have been for you” Margaery told her, “You need more excitement and action I think”
Brienne shook her head. “No, I think you’re right. I’m not sure it’s about excitement. It’s more about just me being bad at anything that isn’t trying to stop bad people.”
“Ah then it is definitely the action” Margaery nodded, “And stopping bad people is a very worthy thing to dedicate your career to”
“I guess you’re right.” Brienne certainly didn’t shy away from it. She sipped her coffee and nodded. “It’s what I’m good at. What do you do? If that’s not a totally lame question.”
“It is not lame at all. I am currently a student studying Law and Languages at UC Irvine” she smiled, “I am not so good with the action”
Brienne nodded a bit. “Do you like it at least? That’s the main thing. Always enjoy what you do, or life will be miserable.”
“Oh I love it” Margaery replied with a smile, “I mean languages come naturally, I learnt English, Russian and Finnish at school in Sweden and Law has always held an interest for me. I suppose as you I like stopping bad people, my way is just less confrontational maybe” she smiled kindly.
“Wow, that’s a lot of languages. Must come in handy.” Brienne couldn’t imagine knowing that many. “What do you want to do when you’re done school then?”
“It does” she nodded, “It takes me a few minutes to switch between each, especially if I have different language classes on the same day” she admitted. “I am hoping to be a lawyer for those who cannot afford one”
Giving her drink a swirl, Brienne nodded her head. “I can only imagine. That’s a pretty admirable thing to do. Good luck with it.”
“Thank you and to you too” Margaery replied raiding her own cup in a mini toast.
