Who: Sirius and Tonks When: Thurs 6th June Where: His house then car What: Shopping and a little spiked coffee Rating/Warning: Low/None Status: Complete
Well Tonks had failed miserably to get Remus to take the potion which would reveal his subconscious feelings for Sirius. But she was determined to succeed. So when she called for Sirius to go shopping she brought along coffee, his pre-laced with the true love potion. As far as she was aware they hadn’t spoken to each other properly since she’d set them up so had no reason to suspect that Remus might have pre-warned him about her plan.
Pulling up outside his place she exited the car, coffees in hand and knocked on the door.
Sirius had been waiting for his young cousin and was curious to see what she was going to pull this time. Remus had things under control on his end with his fake online dating, and now Tonks was convinced that Sirius was having one night stands with random girls. So far, their prank was working perfectly and she had no idea what was really going on.
He opened the door and grinned as he waved to her. “Hey! About time you got here,” he teased. “So what’s on the agenda and where are we going first?”
She grinned back as he opened the door, “I’m perfectly on time” she told him, “Okay first coffee” she said holding it out to him, “Second hug, third car and fourth the best suit for you”
“Thanks,” he said, taking the cup from her. He set it down on the ledge and grinned, pulling Tonks into a big hug. There was no way in hell he was drinking or eating anything from his little cousin, especially after what Remus had told him. But rather than let her in on the secret that he already knew, this was the perfect chance to have a little more fun with her.
Sirius picked up the cup, grinned, and held up a finger. “Stay put! I have a surprise for you. Okay? Be right back!”
Tonks had no idea he’d been pre-warned so thought nothing of it when he rushed back into the house, coffee in hand. “Okay, I hope it’s a fun surprise” she grinned waited as he went to do whatever it was he was doing.
Sirius rushed into the kitchen, quickly poured out the coffee, then rinsed out the cup. He refilled it and put the cap back on, grabbed the small box off the counter, then came back in and handed the present to Tonks. “Nothing big, but just a cool little engagement present for my favorite cousin.”
“Aww thank you Sirius” Tonks smiled as she took the small box, “That’s very sweet of you” she added as she opened the box.
The box contained a gold chain with a small locket. “I figured you could put pics of you and your sweetie in it or something,” he said, shrugging his shoulders. Sirius took a sip of his coffee and smiled. “So where are we headed to today?”
"Oh Sirius" Tonks said softly, "It’s beautiful. Thank you" she moved forward to hug him, tears filling her eyes which she had to blink away. She smiled, only a slightly watery smile, at him "I thought we could start at the outfitters we found the twins suits in. Good place as any, its not too far from here"
He nodded and took another sip of coffee, then offered his arm to Tonks and smiled. “Glad you like it. And okay, let’s do it! Time to try and make me look presentable for once,” he joked.
“You’ll look wonderful” she told him as they walked to the car, happy to see him drinking the coffee, “I promise.”
“I always look wonderful,” he joked. “But just for you, I’ll do my best to try and look extra good. Which reminds me. Have you found your dress yet? If you’re serious about August, that doesn’t leave you a whole lot of time.”
“I’ve found my dress, I can show you” she replied as they got into the car, she pulled her phone from her pocket to show Sirius the dress she had chosen with AJ, “It’s all ordered and should be here in a few weeks” she added proudly. She was determined that August 10th would be her wedding day.
Sirius gave a low whistle in appreciation and grinned. “Veeeerrrryyyy nice! If that doesn’t knock Mac dead, then he’s an idiot. And the Gryffindor red is a nice touch,” he teased. “So what color has Mac picked for the stuff that the guys are wearing?”
“Apple red actually” she teased, “I was a Hufflepuff I’ll have you know” she grinned, even if she had secretly wanted to be a Gryffindor. “Apple green for the guys, and AJ’s dress.”
“Why all the apple colors? Because of his orchard?” Sirius asked curiously. He did smirk at the Hufflepuff comment though. “Poor Nymphie... you ended up in the House of Leftovers.”
“Yeah the orchard means a lot to Mac and I decided to go with a whole apple, outdoor, village festival kind of theme” she told him. “Hey! Hufflepuff is a great house. Just because we’re not show offs like you Gryffindors” she replied with a smirk.
“We’re not show offs! We’re just brave and have more guts than sense,” he replied with a laugh. “Besides... lots of people in my dreams that are my friends were in Gryffindor. But I guess Hufflepuff is okay. At least you’re not a Slytherin like Regulus was.”
Tonks laughed too, “I may have wished I was in Gryffindor a couple of times” she admitted, “But yeah anything except Slytherin really. How is Regulus?” she asked.
“Dunno. I’ve only seen him once since I moved back. But that’s really nothing new, now is it? We rarely got along once we got older and we’re both busy with our own lives.” Sirius shrugged his shoulders and looked out the window.
“That doesn’t mean you won’t get along now” Tonks said quietly, “Might be worth meeting up with him, you never know you might get along more now, and if not you’ve not really lost anything.”
“Who knows?” He shrugged his shoulders and drank the rest of the coffee. Sirius set it into the cup holder and asked her curiously, “Why? Do you see him?”
Tonks noted the empty coffee cup and smiled, give it a few minutes and she’d ask about Remus. “Nope, I was just wondering” she told him, “Being an only child makes me curious about those who aren’t.”
“I think you’re better off being an only child. Then again if I’d been an only child, who knows what kind of hell my mother would’ve put me through. At least with Regulus around, she had her favorite son and eventually gave up on me,” he commented.
Tonks placed her hand over his and squeezed, “Well you’re my favorite cousin and I’d never give up on you” she told him, “I’m stubborn like that.”
“You’re just stubborn, period!” he replied with a grin. Sirius placed his other hand on top of hers and squeezed in return. “Enough of the depressing boring stuff though. We’ve got some shopping to do, right?”
“It’s true” she agreed happily, “We have, a fun day of shopping and making you my own personal barbie doll for the day” she teased with a grin.
“Ugh... Gods help me,” he moaned, making an exaggerated sign of the cross and mimicking the crap he’d seen on his sister-in-law’s television program. “I don’t think being your personal Barbie qualifies as fun.”
Tonks snorted with laughter, “Of course it does, you’ll see” she grinned at him wickedly.
Sirius groaned as she continued driving them to their destination. Somehow, he doubted it would be fun. Especially with Tonks grinning at him like that.
“So seen Remus lately?” she asked as casually as she could, figuring the potion must have had time to work through his system by now.
And here it comes, Sirius thought to himself. “Not really,” he lied as he shrugged his shoulders. “We’ve talked a little on the network and tried to have dinner once, but that’s about it. I’ve been busy with stuff and so has he. Besides... we decided that we’ll at least try to be friends.”
Tonks nodded like she understood, when really she thought it was completely ridiculous that they weren’t dating. “Just friends? Don’t you have any of the feelings you had before? Now you’ve seen him properly again I mean” Come on potion don’t let me down, she thought.
“Nope. Seriously though Tonks, it’s been years. Remus is pretty much lucky I’m even talking to him after what happened between the two of us. Yeah, we were both pretty stupid that night. But he dumped me via a letter and never even tried to contact me until you stuck my feet to the floor that day.” Sirius had on his best poker face as he spoke, turning his head to look over at her. “I know you want everyone to be happy and mushy in love like you are, but it’s not going to happen with me and Remus. Ever.”
“Oh” Tonks replied, trying to look unaffected when she was suddenly very sad. There was a chance the potion hadn’t worked of course but what if it had. Was she pushing them together when in actual fact it really wasn’t what either of them wanted? She didn’t want them to be unhappy.
“Don’t worry about it, okay? Remus and I are going to be fine and you’ve got a wedding to worry about.” A small part of Sirius felt guilty for lying to his cousin. Mind you, it was a very small part. In fact, half the reason it was so small was because she kept meddling and now was even going so far as to try and use love potions on them! Sirius knew that as soon as he and Remus did come clean to her, Tonks would probably be very ticked off and want to kill them both. But in the meantime, she pretty much deserved it.
Tonks nodded, “Right, I do” she said giving him a small smile. Wanting to kill them when she discovered the truth might have been a bit of an understatement, but they would all cross that bridge when they came to it.
