Amy knew John’s schedule well enough now that she could come and find him at the hospital, or knew when he was home. They didn’t have much time before he was to be moved into his new place, but Amy wanted to give him a hurrah--for whatever reason. She showed up at the hospital carrying a bag of clothes and wearing a bright grin. She stopped at the nurse’s station to ask where he was.
The nurse -- who would most likely spread the rumor that this redhead came to visit all the doctors -- pleasantly pointed her to the cluster of clinic rooms, stating that Dr. Watson was currently with a walk-in patient in office two, but would most likely be done momentarily.
Amy gave the woman a playful "thanks!" And might have flirted with the male nurse standing nearby a bit if it would have helped take the gossip off of herself and John. Then again, she was fully anticipating their first PDA as a couple in just a few moments. She was thinking about nothing but John and the adventure she had planned for today. Tonight. Tomorrow.
She moved over a bit to lean against the wall between office two and three, then tugged her phone out of her pocket to play Cut The Rope while she waited.
She didn’t have to wait very long at all. The door to the office opened, and out walked a teenage boy and his mother, followed by John Waston. “Just a common cold,” he was assuring the mother. “But you just take that prescription right down the hall and they can fill it for you there-- Oh! Amy Pond. Hello!”
The mother didn’t seem too pleased by the obvious change in conversation, but smiled when she left, anyway.
Amy perked up when the door opened, and put her phone away. She wasn’t about to interrupt the handsome doctor while he was with a patient, of course, but then he saw her and said hello, and the grin on her face nearly exploded with delight. “Hello!” She said, then stepped forward, wrapped her arms around the handsome doctor, and kissed him right on the lips. Ha! Take that, water cooler gossips!
The water cooler gossips would take that. And then run with it. Widely. Now James Wilson and John Watson were probably seeing the same woman, as far as they were concerned. There’d be a knife fight at sundown next Friday.
Which was fine, because mostly John was just happy for the kisses. So happy, in fact, that he took another.
Amy grinned. The first kiss was full on, the second or third (or fourth or fifth) had to be given and taken through grinning lips. She pulled back to look up into his eyes. “Ready?”
John was pretty sure he could have gotten lost in her gaze. He was okay with that. “What?” He said, not looking away, but smiling vaguely. “Ready for what?”
“For an adventure, of course.” Amy said, giving him a grin along with a ‘duh’ sort of expression. What else would he need to be ready for? “You don’t have to work tomorrow, do you? You’ve got spare clothes in your locker, right?” She asked, smirking a bit.
So distracted had he been by Amy showing up and kissing him, John had quite literally forgotten that he was done with work for the day. “Oh. God. Uhm - yes?” he said, and then shook his head. “No, right. Off tomorrow. I’ve got -- why do I need spare clothes?”
Amy couldn’t keep her hands off of his tie. Both of them came to hold the thin strip of silk that was tied so perfectly around his neck. His leash. “Because I’m taking you on a little holiday. Hey, at least I’m giving you some warning ahead of time.” A few minutes warning was good, right? It was more than she got from the Doctor, really. She was giving him a chance to pack a bag.
Only if his bag was stuffed in his locker at work, really. But he wasn’t too worried -- he had a change of street clothes, and that was probably good enough. John’s smile was amused and indulgent at her inability to stop touching his ties. He liked it. He liked that she liked it. It was a whole lot of like, really.
“Where are we going?” he asked, even as he slipped his arm easily around her waist and led her off to the elevator so he could get to his locker.
“Oh, I dunno. I’ll tell you when we get there.” Amy said, giving him a grin. She waited for him to hit the button on the elevator and dropped her arm down to wrap around his waist in return. “I’m thinking San Diego. Have you ever been to San Diego?”
One of the things that had attracted him to Amy in the first place was the fact that she was so unapologetically spontaneous. She just decided she wanted to do something fun and refused to take no for an answer. It was amazing and endearing.
“I haven’t,” he admitted -- the truth of the matter was that he hadn’t really seen much of the ‘states at all -- only really seeing new things when Amy decided she wanted to. “But I’d love to.” The elevator dinged and he lead her down a hall of the basement. “Afraid this bit is boys only, the locker room.”
“Ah, I’ll wait here, then.” She wasn’t really all that keen on seeing any other doctor’s backsides. Except possibly Dr. Wilson. He was adorable. Or Dr. McCoy. He was good-looking, too. Actually, she was more interested in John’s backside than anyone else’s. “You sure I can’t have just a little peek? It’d do wonders for my fantasies at home while you’re busy working all day.”
John actually went pink over that, eyebrows raising up and hand resting on the back of his neck awkwardly. “You’re wicked,” he told her -- and quite liked it. “Unfortunately, you’ll have to get your peeks in somewhere else, since I’m pretty sure anyone else in there might not be as appreciative.”
Amy gave a laugh. “I was teasing! Go on.” She gave his shoulder a gentle push. “I’ll just be here. Playing Cut The Rope.” She pulled out her phone and waved it at him, then found a spot against the wall to lean and wait while he gathered his things.
John didn’t know what Cut the Rope was. He didn’t fiddle with games on his phone very much, but shrugged, stole one more kiss (he really liked kissing Amy Pond and meant to do it whenever possible) and then went off into the lockers.
When he returned he was in streets -- jeans and plaid button up t-shirt. No tie, sorry Amy. They were the only clothes he had on him, but figured it would suffice. He could always buy a shirt in San Diego if needed. “Did you win?”
Amy grinned at the stolen kiss. How could she not? Then leaned up against the wall to wait. Funny how John’s lips made her heart thump like mad. She was loving every moment of it. When he came back out and she saw that he was tie-less, her smile faltered playfully.
“Won a couple of levels, yeah.” She clicked her screen off and pocketed her phone again. “But now you don’t have a leash.” After pulling herself up off the wall again she stepped over to him and ran her hands over the fabric of his shirt, giving him a tug closer. She hated having to pinch the shirt to pull him near, though. “...Just when I’m starting to get used to it, you take it away again.”
“We’ll just stop at a pet store on the way,” John said dryly, lifting his eyes to the ceiling. It was very clear though that he liked all that attention, even if it was a little silly. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and leaned forward to kiss her again.
If he hadn’t leaned in to kiss her, she would have done it. It was short, playful. “I don’t know. I think you need a human leash.” She said, then wrapped her arm down and around his waist to lead him back to the elevators. “So, now are you ready for our adventure?”
The elevator dinged opened and they stepped inside, Watson giving an amused hum even as he hit the button for ground level. “Are you kidding? I was born ready for adventure.” A pause. “You just wouldn’t know, because it was a very long time ago.”
“Oh, I absolutely wouldn’t know. Wasn’t that when the earth was covered in Ice?” She asked, teasing. Her hand squeezed his side just a little, her arm wrapped around his waist.
“Yes,” John agreed playfully, as they walked out to the visitors parking lot -- he didn’t know where Amy had parked, and so he let her lead. He also ignored the logistics of leaving his own car here for a day, because it wasn’t fun or adventurous to considering things like that. “But by then we’d invented cherry flavoring, so all the ice tasted quite good.”
“Oooh, I love Cherry.” Amy said, giving him a grin. And that was sort of the end of the witty banter for a bit, because they had to focus on getting into Amy’s car and get buckled in. It didn’t take long. Then they were blasting the tunes (Duran Duran at the moment) and driving up onto the freeway.
It was okay -- sometimes it was a lot of effort to have so many one liners in a row, anyway. And it was nice to occasionally just enjoy the silence. Once they were settled in and on their way, John rose his eyebrows, pursed his lips just slightly. “How long a drive is it?” He liked it best when Amy drove, even though she was a bit wild with it.
"I dunno exactly, about an hour, I think?" Amy responded. She wasn't the best driver in the world, but so far no accidents. Knock on wood. "We just go south until we find it. If we hit Mexico, we've gone too far."
“Encouraging,” John said, giving her a look and then glancing out the passengers’ side window for a moment. “Shouldn’t be too hard to miss. I hear they have a nice zoo?”
"Mmm. Yeah." Amy said, then reached her hand over into his lap to take hold of his. Not for naughty things. Honest. "And a Wild Animal Park. And Sea World. That's where I was thinking we should go. I want to kiss a killer whale."
It was doubtful he would have objected to naughty things, in any case. Well. Maybe. The idea of Amy driving while distracted was actually a little terrifying. He squeezed her hand, and ran a thumb over her palm. “I’m jealous already.”
Amy chuckled. “You’ve caught me. My dastardly plot. Make you fall for me then leave you for an Orca.” She turned to give him a little smile, then brought her attention back to the road again. “It was my plan from the very start. From that first day, looking at tea brands in the supermarket.” Yes, she thought about that, too. A lot.
John laughed at that -- a bright, genuinely delighted sort of noise. “Devious of you. And it’s worked, all your evil plotting. All this time, you could have been using your cunning to end world hunger.”
“Pssh. Where’s the fun in that?” Amy asked. There were dimples in her cheeks from the smiling. “Those kids in Africa should get a job. Stop complaining that the world wasn’t handed to them on a silver spoon.” She was absolutely kidding.
“Oh my god,” Watson said, “You’re an absolute terror.” He was joking too.
