Elphaba wiggled her dress a little to make sure it was sitting properly on her hips as she looked in the mirror. Once she was satisfied with how it lay against her body, she ran a hand through her hair and checked her make-up. It had been a long while since she’d seen Lúthien and their last meeting had been full of angst and unresolved sexual tension, something she hoped to remedy. Listening to Lúthien’s album hadn’t helped quell her desire either.
Lúthien knocked on the door. She was wearing a little red dress that somehow hung off of her elegantly. She was nervous. She wanted to be around Elphie more and more (really she wanted her to move into her house with her), but she also didn’t want to bind the woman to her for eternity.
Elphaba checked her watch again. Right on time, she thought with a grin before almost skipping to answer the door. She pulled it open and took in the vision of beauty in front of her. “Hey,” she greeted happily, reaching out to cup Lúthien’s cheek and kiss her tenderly.
Luthien gave off a soft whimper when Elphaba kissed her. It was as though she hadn’t been entirely expecting it, but welcomed it and leaned into it. She forgot what her purpose was or what plans they’d had. Her voice came out much more throaty than she’d intended. “....hello.”
Elphaba giggled before grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the hallway to sit on the couch with her. She turned to face Lúthien and stroked her hair back as she ran her eyes over her face. “How have you been, love?”
“Busy. A lot of promotion work for my CD.” She stroked Elphie’s fingers. “Missing you a great deal. We don’t see each other enough.”
“I know,” Elphaba pouted. “I hate being so busy, this thing with Ms Upland is really starting to kick off and Mr Andrew’s been so demanding, I’m contemplating take a stick to...well, you can imagine,” she joked. “How is your CD doing? I loved it by the way, downloaded it the first day it was released,” she told her happily.
“It’s selling well. Not number one by any means, but well enough that they already want me working on another! I suppose that’s enough success for me. I’m worried about what will happen when they want me to do a live performance, but I’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” She lifted her hand to Elphaba’s face. “Would be easier if we lived closer to one another.”
“Yeah,” Elphaba sighed and smiled as she gazed contentedly at Lúthien’s beautiful face, clearly not picking up on the dropped hint.
“It’s something we should consider, eventually,” Luthien said, dropping the clue by a little harder. “But you really loved it?”
“I really did, your voice is just so beautiful, like you,” Elphaba told her, her eyebrows coming together as she ran over what Lúthien had said. “Wait...do you mean...now?” Elphaba asked, sitting up as she looked at her girlfriend. It was a surprise, but not necessarily an unwelcome one.
“Well not now, but soon.. I’d like to consider it.” Luthien looked almost nervous and a little bashful. She nuzzled Elphie’s hand. “My house is rather lonely.”
“I...,” Elphaba couldn’t quite form words. Why on Earth would anyone want to live with me? she thought to herself. It was ludicrous, she knew Lúthien loved her, but her deep-seated anxiety about not being good enough for someone else still took hold of her. “I...why?” she asked, shaking her head as tears started to form in her eyes. Lúthien wanted to live with her, be with her, was offering her practically everything she had ever dreamed of and she couldn’t help but think it could be taken away from her. Why couldn’t she accept that?
“Why?” She looked at Elphaba, a little surprised. “Because I love you, because I think about you everyday, and I want to see you every everyday.”
Elphaba crooked a grin at that, settling back against the couch beside Lúthien. “Yeah? Everyday?” she flirted, bumping their noses together gently.
“Every day.” She kissed Elphaba’s nose. “Even if that might make you even more tempting bait.” She was still reluctant to bond them together. But resistance was weak.
Elphaba grinned, like an idiot, she had to admit. “I’m bait now? Ooo...I like the sound of that,” she told her in a sultry voice, slipping a hand behind Lúthien’s neck and swooping in and kissing her deeply.
“Well you’re not jailbait but you’re...mmm...” Luthien moaned, closing her eyes and wrapping her arms around Elphie.
Elphaba laid teasing kisses on Lúthien’s lips as she dragged out their flirting a little longer. “But I’m...what?” she asked, hovering over her lips, just out of reach.
“You’re bait for me. I can’t resist the allure of your taste, or the sound of your voice, or those little sighs when I do this.” She stroked her fingers along Elphie’s legs.
As if on cue, she sighed against her cheek and gave a chuckle as Lùthien played her. She moved the hand from behind her head to cup her cheek, stroking with her thumb as she gazed at her and shook her head in disbelief. "I love you. So much," she told her quietly. How did she get this lucky?
“I love you, too.” Luthien’s eyes were emotional. “Give it some thought? Don’t jump into...anything with me, without a great deal of thought.”
"Lets do it," Elphaba told her confidently. "I think too much and its been holding us back so...lets do it, lets live together," she smiled.
“You really mean that?” She took her hands and squeezed them, joy exuding off of her like a wave. She leaned in and kissed her, hard and confident and happy. That had gone better than expected!
Elphaba laughed against her lips at her enthusiastic reaction but didn't stop kissing her for a little while, stopping only when breath became mandatory. "So, yours? Mine? Somewhere new?"
“Mine is large, and has good acoustics. I think you could get addicted to singing. I even have a tree in the living room!”
“A tree? Does it sing too?” Elphaba teased with a grin.
“I rather hope not,” Luthien said, having no idea what was going to be coming in just a week. “..if you’d rather find a place together, I can sell. I don’t remember if you’ve ever seen my home.”
“I...” Elphaba sat up straighter as she thought about it. “I have never been to your house,” she said as if the thought had just occurred to her. “We should fix that,” she smiled, gently stroking Lúthien’s hair. “Then make a decision, yeah?”
“Lets go right now.” Luthien was eager to show her, even if she didn’t want to move out of Elphie’s arms. She was a bit worried what Elphaba would think - it was a fairly large house. Money hadn’t mattered, because acoustics and sound studio room had.
“Uh...ok,” Elphaba shrugged. “Lead the way mademoiselle,” she pressed a kiss to her lips again before standing up.
Getting to her feet, Luthien guided Elphaba out of the apartment and down towards her car. It was a small electric car, and she absolutely loved the thing.
Elphaba gave a little laugh as she got in, “Father would say this was like a lunchbox on wheels. We always have disagreed.”
"It's not that small." She kissed Elphie on the cheek in full view of the neighbors' windows, then started it and pulled out into traffic. It was always a pleasant trip, to and from her girlfriend's, but she was nervous now. Very, very nervous....
Elphaba settled into the passenger seat, delighted that Lúthien was letting her see her home, but as the journey progressed, she noticed that her girlfriend seemed to be getting more nervous for some reason. She reached over and placed her hand on Lúthien’s knee, “Are you ok? You seem...worried.”
“It’s a big step. I don’t know if you’ll like it.” She smiled at her girlfriend. “And I’m worried about..being alone with you. I’m not sure I could control myself.”
She was more ready than she’d thought, but she didn’t know if Elphaba ever would - or if she’d hate her once it sunk in what they’d done.
"You don't need to worry," Elphaba reassured as a blush rose in her cheeks. "I was planning on jumping you pretty much as soon as the front door closed," she admitted quietly with a shrug and a grin.
“....if that’s what you want, I really can’t say no.” She parked in front of a large, two story house, set idyllically against a backdrop of trees. There were willows in the front yard.
“I’d consider it rude if you did,” Elphaba teased with a wink, planting a kiss on Lúthien’s cheek before getting out of the car to gaze at the house. “It’s beautiful,” she said as she shut the car door.
Luthien watched Elphaba move, and for the first time in weeks set aside her fears and her concerns and really let herself enjoy the woman’s presence. It felt like her body suddenly ignited and she knew she’d need a cold drink when she got inside. “Yes..you are. It is, I mean.”
Elphaba looked back at Lúthien and grinned, reaching out her hand to take Lúthien’s in hers and encourage her towards the house. “Come on, show me around,” she grinned.
She laughed, and led her up the walk way. She unlocked the door and held it open for Elphaba. Inside, it was decorated tastefully, with a lot of warm colors and soft textures. Sunlight streamed into a skylight, and near the stairs there really was a large tree.
Elphaba stopped in the hallway at the sight of the tree at the bottom of the stairs. “You weren’t kidding about the tree,” she joked absently as she took in the room.
“Do you like it?” She slipped behind Elphie, hugging her from behind and nuzzling her ear with soft red lips. “After I dreamed I understood why it appealed to me so much.”
“And why’s that?” Elphaba asked, folding her arms over Lúthien’s to lean back in her embrace, revelling in the feel of her lips brushing against her skin.
“Where I lived..a city in this great cavern underneath an even greater forest. Unlike anything you could possibly imagine.” She moved her lips to the back of Elphaba’s neck. “So I like trees, and caves.”
Elphaba hummed her agreement. “I like trees too, and green things,” she smiled, closing her eyes as she and Lúthien rocked on the spot.
“Mm.. I’m glad you think so. You can’t have me and not have those. Just like song, and dance. Would you dance with me, Elphaba?” She turned the woman around and looked into her eyes.
"Anytime, sweetheart," Elphaba grinned as Lúthien turned her around and stepped in close to wrap her arms around her neck and rest their foreheads together, noses rubbing gently.
Luthien grinned, and started to sway her hips with her girlfriend’s, humming a tune and a song. It was one she made up on the spot. A song for them, and only them.
Elphaba smiled contentedly as their bodies swayed together gently. She let Lúthien’s song wash over her, although she didn’t recognise it, but it sounded beautiful. Her fingers started to play with Lúthien’s hair gently and she couldn’t think of anywhere she’d rather be.
It made the elf unbelievably happy. Elphaba in her arms, song in the air, and their bodies so close together. She could feel the pulse of their hearts beating as one.
