Who: Rikku and Kitty. What: Goin' to the beach! When: Friday, 6/28. Where: The beach! Rating: PG-13. Status: Complete!
Kitty picked up Rikku (it seemed easiest to do this). She had a blue and yellow bikini top, and a pair of cut off jeans over the bottoms. She was wearing sandals. If they spilled, it would hurt like a bitch but she was confident in her ability!
Rikku was too, judging by the fact she was dressed basically the same way, only her bikini was pink and yellow. Grinning, she waved at Kitty, bouncing outside and moving to hug her. “Hey!”
“Hey! Hop on, we can still beat the lunch rush. If we’re lucky we’ll have this great open view of the ocean, and they don’t mind girls in bikini tops.” Kitty flashed a grin to cover the blush that had creeped onto her face. Rikku was adorable and gorgeous.
Moving so she was on the bike, Rikku wrapped her arms around Kitty’s bare waist. “If they’re on the beach, they can’t really mind girls in bikini tops, you know?”
“You’d be surprised, sometimes people are outright prudes!” Kitty laughed and shut her visor, ignoring the tingles where skin met skin. It made her want to hug onto Rikku again - Rikku seemed to bring that out in her.
“It’s not like we’re naked!” Rikku smiled, leaning closer and closing her eyes. It was one of the few times she didn’t have her goggles on. “Go fast!”
"There's a beach for that," kitty took off with a laugh. She leaned back against Rikku as she drove. It was pleasant. She really liked that the girl liked to snuggle. It felt really nice.
“We can’t go there,” Rikku laughed. “I’d get so cold.” She wrinkled her nose and laughed.
“What a nude beach? How would you get cold?” Kitty popped a wheelie and darted between two large trucks. Suddenly, the ocean was in view!
“No clothes!” Look, it made sense in Rikku’s head, okay?” She whooped when she saw the ocean. She’d gotten used to it in Japan.
Kitty parked about a block from the little beach cafe she’d picked out, and tugged off her helmet. The smell of sea and salt and fried foods filled her nostrils. This was even better than Six Flags, as far as she was concerned. “I didn’t really grow up on the sea, but between the Great Lakes, and then being in London on the Thames, I do love the smell of water.”
“In Texas, we didn’t have much ocean - the Gulf of Mexico is gross - but in Japan and Guam I really liked it. I went swimming every day.” She took her helmet off as well, following Kitty and smiling.
Kitty smiled, holding her hand out to Rikku. “It’s really gorgeous in Japan, yeah. Almost more gorgeous than here. I really should come out more often. It’s like...you live here and so you don’t think about it as much?”
“Probably. Taking things for granted is sad, though.” Once there was beach to walk on, Rikku did, taking off her flip flops to saunter around on it barefoot.
Kitty watched her move, a slightly stupid grin on her face. Rikku was so gorgeous, it was ridiculous. She kept her shorts on - the cafe was just up the way - but she couldn’t wait to swim. “Yeah, that’s true.”
“Well, we can go swimming once a month or something, make a party out of it!” Rikku did a little dance when she said party, further illustrating the point.
“Uhn, that sounds great! I never party enough either.... Maybe I should get a pool for the house. Save myself the drive.” It could be fun, and give some excuses for Rikku to visit.
“Oooh, you have a house? Lucky!” Rikku wrinkled her nose. “I wouldn’t want to use the pool at my apartment complex. It’s brown.”
“Gross!” Kitty wrinkled her nose. “Yeah, we had me and Xi’an, my best friend and her girlfriend, the twins, and 2 cats living with us, and the apartment was tiny with very thin walls. So we got a good deal on this house after all of Stark’s experiments lowered the value in the neighborhood.” She grinned cheekily.
“Yeaaaah, Bossman does that sometimes.” Rikku wrinkled her nose as she laughed. “I’m glad it helped you?”
“It did. He’s a good man.” And less of a jerkass than the one she dreamed about. Kitty led the way off the beach and into the cafe. There was loud and cheerful music, raucous laughter and the smell of coconuts.
“He’s a peach, yeah. He didn’t have to hire me, but he did.” Rikku didn’t have a collegiate background like Stark did, but she had raw talent and he’d recognized that. She owed him a lot.
Bouncing, Rikku followed Kitty into the cafe. “Oooh, it smells like summer.”
“It’s amazing.” Kitty picked out a table with a view. She had her back to a wall, as well, so she could see all the exits. And have a great view of Rikku.
Rikku plopped down across from Kitty, smiling. “If it tastes as good as it smells, I’ll bet!” She was still barefoot.
Kitty flopped back in her seat, eyes dancing. After her week she desperately need this. At least that’s what she was telling herself. “What do you do for fun, anyway? Like a hobby? You said you build things?”
“Yup! Well, that’s for work and fun, but yeah. I make robots at work? I’m in the R&D department with robotics at Stark.” She shrugged, reaching into her purse to pull out the tiny robot she’d been working on. It didn’t do much but fly, but it was voice reactive and fit in the palm of her hand. She’d made it out of some of the spare parts and boards she had in her garage.
“That’s really cool!” And Kitty knew enough to not be completely in the dark about it. “Ever make anything bigger?”
“Oh, yeah, all the time. But this is just what I do when I’m in waiting rooms, you know? Some people pack a book, I have ... tiny robots.” Rikku blushed.
“Are you embarrassed? Don’t be embarrassed.” Kitty put her hand over Rikku’s. “How many girls really get into the nitty gritty of electronics, let alone robotics? Be a pioneer, baby!”
“Blame Pops,” Rikku shrugged. “He used to give me gears and stuff to play with as a kid. Mom just let him to humor him, but I don’t know, it must’ve stuck.”
“It’s cool.” Kitty stroked Rikku’s knuckle a bit then pulled her hand away. “He must have seen you had the talent for it. Sometimes they like to encourage you without looking like they are.”
“Pops is ... I don’t know if he’s that aware.” Rikku smiled a little. She loved her father, but they weren’t entirely close.
“Maybe he just shows his love in a different way?” Kitty got that incredibly loneliness off of Rikku again. It made her want to hug onto her again.
Right, like ignoring her. “Yeah, he does.” She tucked her knees under her chin, smiling. “But that’s okay, really, I’ve got friends and my cousins.”
“I’m more than happy to help. With the friends thing. And hanging out.” Kitty flashed her bright grin, trying to pull Rikku’s mood back up.
“You do help, promise.” Rikku squeezed Kitty’s hand. “So, what’s good here?”
“Seafood is pretty good. So are the burgers. They do this thing with garlic and top it with some peppers. It’s ridiculously good.” Kitty managed to talk herself into a burger. Darn. What a terrible thing.
“Oooh, I want that.” Rikku had the metabolism of a hummingbird, and required more food than most.
“Super duper burgers, and we can share fries?” Kitty also ordered them some smoothies. Because smoothies were awesome. She looked around a bit, mostly with her eyes. Still safe. Only families and beach goers.
“That works for me, and are you expecting someone?” Rikku was observant. Naive, but observant.
Kitty blinked, then looked abashed. “What? Oh, not. Just...had some experiences lately and I’m a little paranoid.” She rubbed at her fingers nervously. “It’s kind of ingrained in me to be observant and keep all exits checked. Sorry. I’ll try to relax.”
“What happened?” Rikku leaned forward, taking Kitty’s hand into hers. “You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, but if you do, I’m here.”
“Uh.. I was out with a friend. She wanted to show me this club because we have a mutual interest, and we got jumped after we got out. She got grabbed and I got out. Some of my other friends got taken too. So we kind of had to go get them.”
Rikku’s eyes went wide. “Oh my god is everyone okay did you get hurt did you call the cops what happened what did they want what kind of club we should warn other people that go to that club!” Rikku tended to babble when excited.
Kitty held up her hands. "Whoa! whoa! It's okay! Oh god it's okay! Everyone's fine. We took care of it on our own because the bad guys had like..machine guns and big mechas and things. And we're super heros. So rwar smash!"
Blink. Blink blink. “Super heroes?”
"Kind of. I mean you've seen what I can do, right? I'm not alone. There are others like me. Hell, your boss is one. Mr. Iron Underpants. Right?" Kitty rubbed at her shoulder. "You ever hear about this mysterious woman that beats up muggers and rapists at night?"
Rikku shook her head. “I don’t uh. Read the news much.” Or watch it. Or really be aware of current events that aren’t on Tumblr or Twitter or Reddit.
Kitty nodded. "I think there's a really crappy night vision video on youtube somewhere someone took, but there's this group that scrubs a lot of that stuff so the public doesn't panic. But that's me. I beat people up who hurt other people, sometimes."
“Well, if they hurt people, they’re kind of asking for it.” Rikku squeezed Kitty’s hand.
"Yeah, they are. It's better than underground street fights for getting out aggression, anyway." Kitty looked down at Rikku's hand around her own. That felt nice. "I've got power, right? Why shouldn't I use it?"
“So, wait. You know super people. That’s just so. Cool.” Rikku beamed. “My best friend is a superperson!”
Best...friend? Kitty blinked. They'd barely known each other a week! She didn't know if she should be worried or touched. She opted for a little bit of both - worry about Rikku's personal life, and touched that it was her. She scooted around in the booth and hugged the blonde girl. "Yeah, I know super people! Eye beams guy! Claw man!"
“Eye beams? Claw man? Okay, those are the worst superhero names ever.” Rikku couldn’t help but giggle.
"Better than Cyclops and Wolverine." Kitty made a gagging noise.
“Those are great names, what’re you talk - well, Cyclops is, Wolverine makes him sound like he’s short. And makes snuffly noises when he walks.” Rikku made little panting noises. “You know, like a badger!”
“He is short. And hairy. but kinda hot anyway. And he makes sniking noises when his claws some out. They’re made of metal and can cut through anything!.” Kitty nodded her head. “I’m gonna call him Badger-man next time I see him.” She wanted to snuggle closer, it was irresistable.
“Does he snuffle like a badger?” Rikku grinned broadly, bouncing in her seat. “And ugh, hairy is so not hot. I don’t know, though, maybe he’s different.”
“He’s different. He’s that kind of... feral shove you against the wall and make you forget your own name hot.” It was hard to explain Logan’s magnetism. It didn’t work on everyone, but it seemed like it. Hell, Logan was probably relieved when it didn’t. “Which is fun if you like that sort of thing. It’s harder to do as a woman, but still possible.” She winked at Rikku.
Rikku blinked. She didn’t really even know what that was. “I don’t ... really know,” she chuckled. “I’ve never ... you know.” She was blushing, and she knew it, so she pointed behind Kitty. “What’s that?”
"Someday you'll find out, when you're older," Kitty joked, then turned around to see what Rikku was pointing at, shoulders tensing a little bit.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I was trying to distract you from talking about me being a big, big virgin, and I scared you.” Rikku moved to go sit by Kitty. “I’m sorry.”
"Nothing wrong with being a virgin, just like nothing wrong with not being one." Though Kitty would be the first to say that sex was one of the most amazing things ever in the history of the universe. Ever. "No opportunity, or not the right person? Or maybe I can be nice and change the subject." Kitty was babbling a little bit. She didn't like to admit that she had been jumpy. And pretty girl close to her.
“Both.” Rikku wrapped her arms around Kitty and let her head rest on Kitty’s shoulder. “It’s okay, KittyKitty, whatever happened won’t happen again while Rikku’s around! This time, I get to take care of you.” As for Kitty’s question, she thought about the answer. “Both? Pops watched me like a hawk, so nobody ever got to try. I’m shocked he’s not here accusing you of trying to take my top off or something.” She mimed an angry Southern man. “I’ll be damned if anyone ever looks at my little girl, bydammit!”
Kitty smiled against the top of Rikku's hair. The girl smelled kind of fruity, but there was also an underlaying scent of oil and electronics that she found oddly alluring. It smelled like Rikku.
She giggled lightly, nose nuzzling softly. "It would be so easy too."
Rikku laughed. “But why would you want to, you big meanie?”
“Because I like tits, I cannot lie,” Kitty replied, like she was talking about the most serious of subjects. To try to set Rikku at ease, she added lightly. “But I won’t, so don’t worry.”
Rikku didn’t move her head. Kitty smelled nice, and Rikku just closed her eyes. “I guess it would be worse for the other people here than me, right?”
"Uh...I suppose that depends. Any straight guy would probably cheer. And I've known some gay guys that love boobs more than I do!" Kitty giggled at the thought, and put her arm around Rikku so it was in a more comfortable position. Not that there wasn't many safe places to put her hand, really.
“Well, if I get any, we can show them,” Rikku laughed. “I keep waiting, but nope.”
Kitty closed her eyes. She will not offer to prove her wrong, she’ll not offer to prove her wrong. “You’ve got a handful. That’s enough. My last girlfriend’s were as big as my head almost. Okay it was awesome, but there’s such a thing as too big?”
Rikku’s voice was muffled by Kitty’s neck. “Do you miss her?” She wondered what it would be like to kiss Kitty and sat back like she’d been yanked. “I didn’t - I mean - “ Where had that thought come from? She and KittyKitty were friends.
"Sometimes. I really think it worked out for the best. She's safe, and ... I don't think she wanted to deal with all the trauma that came with dating me. I don't even know what I was feeling with her." She looked at Rikku, blinking her eyes. "What? What's wrong, are you okay? I'm sorry if I did something inappropriate!"
“No, no, you didn’t do anything, I just thought something inappropriate. I mean, you don’t like me that way, so it’s silly to think of anyway.” Rikku pressed her palms to her cheeks, closing her green eyes. “I’m ... you know, that part of the month where you want to rub up on everything and everyone.”
Kitty's mouth went dry. She wasn't sure how she could signal that it wasn't inappropriate, or even if she should. But she was being so adorable right now. Kitty reached over to pull her hands away from her face. "You mean days one through thirty for me? It's not that I'm not attracted to you, Rikku. I just don't wanna go all creep on you. You're my friend. You should have to be worried that I'm just getting close to you for that."
“I wasn’t! I was the one who was thinking of kissing you, that’s what I said!” Then Rikku blinked. “Wait, you want to - whaaaaa?”
"Shouldn't. Not should..shit.." Kitty grimaced. "I mean that..I'm not trying to get close to you for that. I'm getting close to you because I like you and I want to be your friend and..wait you were thinking of kissing me?" Kitty finally let that sink in.
"That's really not ... that's not bad. I mean, I've thought about it." Kitty clapped her hand over her mouth. Muffled, she added, "I mean, I don't want you to think that's the only reason I'm your friend! Or any reason I'm your friend!"
Foot, meet mouth.
Rikku just blushed and laughed. “We’re stupid.” They’d done a lot of talking and not gotten anywhere.
“So stupid,” Kitty agreed, her hand still over her mouth. “We just talked in circles.”
“I don’t even know if we came to an agreement or what’s happening still.” Oh, hey, food. That would give them something to do, at least.
Kitty ran her fingers through her hair, face red. She looked down at her burger, half relieved, half-irritated at being interrupted. At least she could occupy her hands. And her mouth. So she chewed in silence, except to exclaim at how good the burger was. Awwwwkward.
“Umph, fries,” Rikku sighed. She handed one to Kitty, blushing when their hands met. Somehow, it was exciting that a girl wanted to kiss her. In Rikku’s mind, it was more flattering than a boy wanting to kiss her. Most of the boys she knew were gross, so of course they’d want to kiss her; Rikku smelled good and she was okay looking. But Kitty was so pretty. Rikku was taking it as a compliment.
Kitty tossed one into her mouth, smiling at Rikku and trying to fight the awkward. She hadn't had any clue that the blonde might be interested and now she didn't know what to do with herself. She'd sworn off relationships and Rikku deserved more than to have her cherry popped and be sent on her way.
And Kitty was crushing hard. She knew she was crushing hard. She searched for the words to explain what she was worried about, using the fries to let her not have to speak yet.
“So, we can’t go swimming right after we eat. What do you want to do?” Rikku still hadn’t moved back to her side of the booth yet.
It was tempting to brush her leg against Rikku's. So Kitty did just that, a shock running up her spine. "Walk on the beach? Kick some butt at beach volleyball?" Cuddle and make out?
Rikku bit her lip when their legs brushed, if only because there was skin on skin contact and it felt good. “Ergh, no jumping when my tummy’s full,” Rikku winced.
She wanted to do it again, but she refrained. Mostly. "Good point." She put down her burger and wiped her fingers on a napkin. "Long walk on the beach and pina coladas?"
Which was actually before her time too, but her dad loved those kind of songs.
Rikku didn’t get the reference. “Ooooh, yes. I mean, I can’t drink yet, but I like the ones without alcohol too.” She bit her lip as she looked up at Kitty, trying to look like she wasn’t thinking about snogging while thinking about snogging.
Kitty's eyes fell to Rikku's lip. She couldn't remember if she'd figured out Rikku's age or not. She thought she was legal. She really shouldn't have those thoughts. "Yeah can..." She snerked. "Can get you a virgin drink."
Then she reached over and wiped some ketchup from her cheek.
That just made Rikku blush. “Only two more years,” she murmured. She was nineteen, not nine, darn it. But Kitty’s hand was soft and Rikku closed her eyes. “Thanks,” she sighed.
Kitty licked the ketchup off of her finger and grinned at her. "I might have to get a virgin too..." She felt a little dizzy. So she scooted closer. "What's your favorite flavor?"
“Like, in general?” Rikku thought to herself. “Probably strawberry.” Rikku liked berries in general.
“No wonder your hair smells so good...Lets get strawberry smoothies.” She licked her lips, then plopped her chin on Rikku’s shoulder. “I don’t make you feel weird? Being close?”
“Why would you? I cuddle with my friends all the time. And I was thinking about what it would be like to kiss you.” Rikku smiled, looking at Kitty. “Do I make you feel weird?”
"Only in a good way..." Kitty smiled back at her. "I'm a really touchy person, I've just gotten into trouble in the past that way."
“Oh, I’m touchy too! I cuddle everything.” Rikku leaned closer. She wondered if Kitty really would kiss her now. Maybe Rikku’d just have to do it.
Kitty's hand slid onto Rikku’'s leg and rubbed lightly. "That's good...I love skin contact, I love holding, and being held...I love it when people play with my hair." Hint.
Rikku's lips were so close, and there was something in her eyes that drew her in... Kitty stopped resisting and simply closed her eyes and finished closing the distance.
That bit of information was filed away. Rikku closed her eyes as Kitty got closer and sighed a little when their lips touched. Kitty tasted like french fries, which was kind of giggle-worthy, but the kiss was making Rikku’s pulse speed up. She had that same flutter in her tummy she got when she kissed boys she liked. Oh. ... maybe she liked ... Kitty?
Rikku tasted a little like fries too, but it was the tingling warmth that spread through her body that she noticed first. It was..pleasant. Her other hand slid into Rikku's hair, and she kissed a little harder, and made a rumbly sound in the back of her throat.
The hand on Rikku’s leg hadn’t moved, either.
Kitty liked her hair played with, right? Rikku didn’t know if she’d ever get to do this again, so she pulled the other girl closer, one hand stroking her hair lightly. She’d shifted her weight so that she was leaning into Kitty’s touch. She could barely believe she was making out period, much less with her bestie.
Kitty felt herself melt a little at the fingers stroking at her hair. She was sure that Rikku would have figured it out on her own. But this was so nice. Her hand slid down Rikku's almost bare back and she pulled her into her lap. Her skin was burning up a little, and she needed to come up for air, but she didn't want to stop kissing her. Kitty was drunk on kisses!
Fortunately, the waitress cleared her throat a little bit from behind them. Rikku felt almost shocked as she stopped kissing, breathing hair, hair mussed. “Oh. Right. In public.” She felt her heart drop a little. But kiiiisiiiiiing, darn it! She’d been busy!
Oh god. Wasn't the worse thing she'd been caught at but it was still embarrassing. She swallowed and tried to fix her hair, and failed. Because Kitty hair was an untamed wilderness at times.
"Uh...can we get a couple strawberry smoothies to go?" She licked her lips. A cool drink and a dunk in water might help. Maybe. She glanced at Rikku, blushing a bit.
“Please?” Rikku smiled. She turned to Kitty. “Want to go play video games at Casa Del Rikku?” Subtle, Rikku. Very.
Kitty nodded, too breathless to trust her voice, at least while Rikku was still pressed against her.
“Yay!” Rikku really did mean what she said, but it should’ve had a caveat that they’d probably get to the games after making out on Rikku’s sofa. If there was room under all the various scrap metal bits.
There was much sucking down of smoothies. Kitty was only mildly disappointed she wouldn't get to see Rikku all wet - or in whatever she had under those shorts. At least she could admire her a little more openly.
That was also a caveat that she could live with.
Rikku slurped hers fast enough to get brain freeze, which she combated by wincing, whimpering, rubbing her temples, and saying ‘owie’ under her breath at a rapid fire pace.
"..you're so cute." Kitty tossed the remains of hers into the trash, then slipped her hand into Rikku's. She kissed her cheek, letting her chilly lips linger.
“EEEE, COLD!” Rikku giggled, then countered by blowing a raspberry with her own cold lips on Kitty’s neck.
Kitty laughed, squirming at the cold and squirming at how good that felt. "Oh god! Cold!" She squirmed away and pointed at Rikku. "Sneaky."
“That’s me!” Rikku grinned, waggling her fingers. “Come on, let’s go back to my place!” She bounded back toward the bike.
She watched her run for a moment, then darted after her, cares and worries seeming to melt of her shoulders as she chased the blonde. She caught up to her and hugged her from behind, then kissed at her shoulder. "Hey...Rikku. Thanks."
“For what?” The kiss sent shivers down Rikku’s spine, making her giggle to herself.
She kissed again, and nibbled a little bit, rubbing her hands over Rikku's stomach. "For being awesome and sexy, and cute, and nice..."
Kitty loved shoulders.
Rikku couldn’t help it and outright moaned at the nibbling. “I’m - right, weren’t we going home?” She could feel herself blushing from her scalp to her toes.
Apparnetly Rikku liked shoulders too. Kitty filed that away and straddled her bike. "Hop on!" She revveed it. "...hold on tight. I like that."
Rikku did, wrapping her arms tightly around Kitty’s waist. Feeling a bit daring and more than a bit giddy, she gently kissed one of her shoulderblades.
A giddiness spread through Kitty's body, and she giggled as she drove. Today had been amazing.
