Who: Sam and Elizabeth
What: Visiting
Where: Irvine Hospital
When: After the Dragon Attack wedding
Rating: Low - mentions of dragon attack
Status: Complete

Sam was quickly coming to dislike the hospital – she’d visited her friend in it too many times. She hated seeing Lizzie amongst the very white sheets, it always made her friend seem more ill than she really was. McCoy had assured her that Lizzie was fine but until she saw her for herself she wasn’t sure she would believe it.

Hurrying down the corridor to the room McCoy had text her she knocked gently before opening the door, “You really need to stop doing this” she smiled at her friend, “I’m sure the food can’t be all that appealing”

At the sound of Sam’s voice, Elizabeth slowly opened her eyes, squinting in the sunlight from the window. “Hey, what are you doing here?” she asked tiredly, trying futilely to sit up, but the pain from her arm and ribs stopped her with a hiss. "Besides, the food may not be great, but the staff are lovely, and I can't complain about what I came home with last time I was here," she joked weakly.

Sam tutted when she tried to move and swiftly made her way to the bed, “McCoy text me” Sam explained gently making sure her friend didn’t try to move again, “So I came straight away” Naturally, she’d never hear news like that and leave her friend in the hospital without checking on her. That would make her a terrible friend. “And the last time you were here you weren’t dating the lovely doctor - you have him now you don’t need to keep doing this” she smiled patting Lizzie’s hand gently.

Elizabeth smiled happily at the mention of McCoy, of course the drugs may have helped the blissed out contented feeling, but he was pretty good at inspiring it in her too. "He shouldn't have, I'm fine," she tried to reassure her friend, taking hold of her hand. "Its just some cracked ribs, a bruised shoulder and concussion, I'll be fine," she told, taking her time since she couldn’t inhale deeply. "I've had worse," she pointed out.

“Of course he should” Sam replied, taking her friends hand, “He did the right thing, luckily for him” Sam would have had issues if he hadn’t informed her but he was a good sort so it hadn’t been a problem. “That isn’t the point Lizzie” she protested, “You were at a wedding, and dragons attacked I mean, what the hell is that!?”

Elizabeth gave a little laugh then hissed as the pain in her ribs spiked at the movement. “Oww...don’t make me laugh, it hurts,” she told her friend with a smile as she settled back into the bed. “Has there been any news as to where they came from?”

Sam winced as Elizabeth hissed in pain, oops right no laughing. Noted. She shook her head, “Nothing I’ve seen, one of the nurses had a recording on her phone so people could see it really was dragons” which still sounded wrong, “But nobody seems to know where or why or anything else of any use”

“Huh,” Elizabeth tried to shift in the bed so she could sit up better, but struggled, the IV in her hand making it hurt to rest any weight on it. “If I didn’t...hurt so much...I’d say I want to watch it...just to be sure it happened,” she told Sam breathlessly.

Rolling her eyes Sam moved to help Lizzie sit up without hurting herself, “Oh well considering this place I have no doubt it’ll be all over the net soon so you won’t be able to escape it”

“Thanks,” Elizabeth offered her weakly with a smile. She didn’t like to ask for help, but the fact was it simply hurt too much to refuse. “You’re right, gossip travels faster here...than a sewing circle in the old west,” she joked. “Speaking of which...how did you get on...with Leonard?”

“Oh he was fine” Sam said, “I only spoke to him briefly as I arrived. He looked very tired. How was it going before the dragons?” she asked.

“Really well,” Elizabeth told her dreamily, gazing off into space as a huge grin spread over her face. “We kissed, we danced. Then there were the dragons,” she added a little sourly, her voice feeling croaky. She tried to reach for her glass for a drink but found her hand was shaking, probably from the amount of painkillers she was on.

“Well I’m glad it was good before the interruption” Sam said, moving forward to sit on the edge of her friends bed and help her sip the water, “Will you please ask for a little help?” she requested, “It’s not like I’m going to say no and pride should not even be an issue with us” she reprimanded softly, her concern evident.

“It was so good,” Elizabeth sighed with a smile after taking a drink. “Thank you, Sam,” she told her as she put the glass down. “Sorry, can’t help it I guess, too long being an independant woman,” she joked.

Sam gave her a fond eye roll, “I prefer to think of it as a stubborn pig headed woman, if I’m honest” though she made sure Lizzie was okay before moving back to her seat. “How long have the doctors said you need to stay here?”

“Steady on,” Elizabeth grinned tiredly. “You’re talking to an invalid here,” she defended herself. “Don’t know yet...I don’t plan...on being here...as long as last time,” she took a few steadying breaths. “Besides...I have a third date...to finish off,” she winked.

“Yes well what you plan and what the doctors plan may not be the same” Sam replied pointedly, “But I’m sure it won’t be as long as last time. And that your date will be wonderful”

“Isn’t that always the case?” Elizabeth joked rhetorically. “How about you and your date? Did you finally...get round to talking to him?”

Sam blushed slightly, “I did. Not as eloquently as I would have liked though” She told Lizzie what had happened, waiting for her friend to tease her as she finished.

Elizabeth couldn’t help but grin, trying to push the urge to laugh down, knowing it would hurt. “Sorry, I’m sorry,” she covered her mouth with her good hand. “So, you’re dating...right?” She would tease her more when she was back on top form, but right now she was tired and hurt.

“It’s fine, it’s typical of me right?” she said letting a small smile of her own slip free. “But yes we’re dating and it’s nice” she nodded.

Elizabeth watched her for a second, taking in her friend's 'glow'. "I'm happy for you Sam," she told her. "And the sky didn't...fall down now did it?" she couldn't resist.

Sam naturally did the mature thing and stuck her tongue out at her friend, “No sky falling” she replied with a pout which turned into a smile.

"Don't...don't make me laugh!" Elizabeth protested, holding her side with her good hand as she tried to stifle her giggles. "Oh! Oww..." she complained miserably.

“You started it” Sam protested smiling, “But fine no more laughing. We need to stick to serious conversations until you heal”

"Oh god! The next few weeks...are going to be...excrutiatingly boring then," Elizabeth joked once she had her breath back. "Could you pass me my phone?" she asked, indicating to the stand behind her to the right.

“Yep, that’s it. Boring until you are healed. It’s a necessary evil” Sam agreed before passing Elizabeth her phone, “Oh I’m glad they found it for you” she commented.

"Yeah...not sure what happened...but I woke up...and Leonard used it...to text you," Elizabeth explained as she unlocked the screen. "My TA's text me...I'll reply when you've gone," she told her, putting the phone down on the table in front of her, eyes starting to feel heavy.

“That’s good” Sam nodded as she explained about the phone, “Make sure you make use of Margaery, there’s only this week left of school and nobody expects you back”

"Hmm..." Elizabeth agreed tiredly, eyes slipping shut against her will. "Sam? Will you stay? And just...talk til I fall asleep?"

“Course I will” Sam agreed, retrieving the science journal she had from her bag. Luckily Elizabeth, as smart as she was, held no real interest in the area of physics so as Sam began to read she knew Elizabeth would fall asleep fairly soon.
