Who: Aang and Toph What: snuggling When: 6/7 Where: Toph’s place Rating: PG13ish, mild language, shirtless Aang, kissing Status: Complete
Aang was sprawled out on his girlfriend’s couch, shirtless as promised. He wasn’t sure where the shirt had gotten tossed, but he didn’t really care. He didn’t think he’d need it any time soon.
Toph, said girlfriend, was there too -- sitting in a little ball by Aang’s head. The shirtlessness was nice, she supposed -- she’d traced shapes on his chest for a little while with her fingers until she’d gotten lazy and sad about the whole lack of whatever that was going on.
“This sucks.”
“I know,” he said, “I’m sorry.” He rolled over, and petted her knee. “Is there anything else I can do to cheer you up? We could go to the petting zoo again.”
Dragging her fingers lazily through his hair, Toph pouted a little. She was in a poor mood because of all this, and didn’t see any reason why she shouldn’t show it. “I don’t wanna go anywhere. Let’s just lay here and get drunk.”
“Okay,” he said, making kissy motions at her hand. “What are you thirsty for? I can grab a bottle.” He didn’t mind being her errand boy, and waiting on her, for a change.
Toph flopped over, throwing her legs over the arm of the couch and sprawling just as lazily as Aang had been a moment earlier. “Whatever’s the the freezer, I guess. I’ve got options. Surprise me.” She secretly enjoyed being doting on, but even that wasn’t quite enough to up her mood immediately.
Aang hauled himself up, and trudged to the freezer to grab the bottle of whatever, and a couple of tumblers from the cupboard, just in case they decided not to guzzle right from the bottle. Then he returned and sat down next to Toph again. “Do you want a glass, or should I hook up an IV?”
He was kidding about the IV, of course, but she’d get the idea.
Toph gave a laugh over that one -- squirming up until she was in a proper sitting position again, legs crossed underneath her. “Depends,” she said, adjusting fake glasses that she so clearly didn’t need. “Do you mind if we share germs?”
“Seeing how we’ve snogged before...gosh, let me think about that,” Aang said, “Nope.” He smiled, and put the bottle in her hand. “Here you go.”
“Good, then,” Toph agreed, because that had been her thoughts on the matter as well. She considered the bottle in her hand, weight, size, etc, and decided that this was probably the brandy. Aang had chose well in terms of just-liquor flavor anyway. Not that she was feeling exceptionally picky. She took a long swig of the stuff and made a face as it went down. “Augh, god.” And then she sighed. “Do you think it’ll come back?”
“Your bending?” Aang asked, hemming and hawing a little. “I bet it will. I mean, people have been dreaming for ages, right? There’s a whole Agency devoted to it. It would be weird if it just suddenly switched off.”
Well, it had suddenly switched off, that was the whole point. Toph didn’t know anything about any agency, but she didn’t really not believe Aang either. She took another drink from the bottle and then passed it over to him. “I guess you’re right.”
Aang took a sip, and passed the bottle back. He didn’t really understand how the powers or the dreams had suddenly switched on in the first place, never mind what had switched them off. He wondered if anybody did. Maybe, as the Avatar, he ought to consider trying to learn more about it. But he didn’t feel very much like any Avatar today. “You know I still like you, powers or no powers, right?”
“Well,” Toph said, and even though she went a little pink over it, her voice was even and maybe even a little sarcastic. “I assumed so. Since I met you before I had any powers anyway.” She took another drink, but kept hold of the bottle. “I’d still be sad though, if they didn’t come back.”
She really made Aang work at reading between the lines, but he felt like maybe he was getting a little better at it. He smiled to himself as he noticed that pink glow. She was so pretty. “I kinda miss them, too.”
Toph didn’t seem to like making anything easy -- sometimes it was purposeful, others it was just how she was. She was just generally a bit dry witted and sarcastic. It was a nice coping mechanism for being treated like she was useless or stupid all the time.
“Yeah. Well. Oh fucking well, huh?” She took another drink from the bottle, made another little face that included a scrunched up nose. “Tell me something fun.” And then she draped herself over his lap as if she had no bones.
Aang ran his fingers through Toph’s hair, twining it around his fingers. He tried to think of interesting things that were going on in his life, but it was mostly just work and classes. He’d been trying to work on his waterbending, but he didn’t think that was the best topic at the moment. “Well...I’d really like to kiss you right now.”
Raising her eyebrows, Toph gave Aang what she imagined was a sultry sort of smile. “That’s fun,” she pointed out, as if it were a very valid and important thing. Also, permission granted.
Aang was smiling when he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, knowing that she would feel it, even if she couldn't see. And then he gave the kiss his full attention, arms wrapping around her to hold her close. Yes, kissing Toph was a lot of fun.
Toph flailed a little to set the bottle down on the coffee table across from them, and then not so secretly delighted in all this kissing. Aang had soft lips, and he was pretty good at kissing -- it wasn’t ridiculously awkward or wet or anything like that.
It was kind of silly, but she closed her eyes when she kissed because she’d heard that was the proper thing to do. Settling her hands in his hair, she half laughed and half bit at his lips. If sulking got her make out sessions, maybe she should have been doing more of it.
She didn’t have to sulk, but if it got her smiling and laughing again, Aang was happy to make out with her. Heck, he was happy to make out with her any old time. Maybe he’d even get good at it!
