WHERE: Mickey's car then Martha's front door
RATING: Family Friendly

The Drive-In had been a lot of fun since Mickey hadn’t seen the Back to the Future movies in an extremely long time. It was also helped by the fact that it was another date with Martha, whom he enjoyed greatly. They had spent a lot of time talking, but her schedule was so crazy that they hadn’t been able to plan another date, so the drive in idea was a great one. He didn’t even mind spending time with her friends either, they were actually quite nice, and they all seemed to get along. And if he managed to get along with her friends then things would probably go well between the two of them. But the night did have to come to an end and now Mickey had dropped off everyone but Martha. He followed her directions as they made their way to her house, “I will admit that it was a lot of fun tonight. I haven’t gone to a Drive-In since I was a little kid.”
Martha hadn’t been sure what to expect at the drive-in, mostly because Nina and Molly were going to be there too and while Molly had met Mickey that night at the bar, Nina hadn’t yet and she wanted her friends to like Mickey and vice versa. She really liked Mickey, so it would have been awkward if him and her friends didn’t get along, but everything had appeared to go well, so Martha had been able to enjoy the movie and enjoy time with Mickey and her friends. They’d seen Tara and The Doctor briefly as well, which had been fun.
Now that Mickey was driving her home, they were alone again like they’d been when he’d picked her up at the beginning of the night, “I’d actually never been to one. There aren’t really a lot in New England. I think there’s like two, but I never had a chance to go. So, this was a lot of fun. And it helps that Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies.”
“It’s definitely amusing that Back to the Future is your favorite movie and you’ve been having dreams about time travelling. And there were quite a few drive-ins in Oklahoma and my friends like going there instead of a regular movie once they got their own cars. They were always chatting about how it was much easier to make out with their dates that way,” he couldn’t help but smirk at that. Teenage boys were all the same around the world and he had briefly considered trying to put the moves on Martha, but her friends were around, and now that they were alone he was considering it again, “I’m glad you had a good first experience.”
Not only was Martha glad that her first experience at a drive-in had been a good one, but she was glad that Mickey, Molly and Nina all appeared to have gotten along. Sure, Molly and Mickey had met at the bar, but that was only for a few minutes and this had been for a couple of hours. They were very different, but everything had worked out.
"Huh, you're right. I hadn't even thought of that." She laughed as she realized just how ironic that really was. Perhaps it had been fate. Just like it had been fate that she'd wound up moving to California instead of Seattle, where she's been thinking of going before getting the offer from St. Joseph's.
“I’m full of weird observations sometimes. I think it’s part of being a computer person. You have to look at all sorts of odd things and figure out how to put them together. But, I guess that would also describe your job as well. You’ve got to have a good grasp on how everything works and how it should all go back together,” he wasn’t sure why a super smart girl like Martha would ever want to talk to a nerd like him, but he had to remember that he wasn’t an awkward teenager anymore. He stopped at the stop sign before making a right and slowing down to figure out which building was her place.
“They’re good, weird observations though.” Martha smiled at him as he stopped at the stop sign then she nodded, “Yeah, it’s kind of the same logic. I mean, we both have to know how what we’re working on works in order to fix it or figure out what’s wrong with it.” While they worked in two very different fields, it was nice to have someone else around who understood what she did. “It’s the complex at the end of the street.” Martha liked her apartment complex, because it wasn’t like any that she’d ever seen before.
“We are both probably too smart for our own good,” he teased as he sped up a little bit so they could make it down to the end of the street and he turned into her apartment complex, “Oooo, this looks quite fancy. Where exactly is your complex and where should I park?” He couldn’t help but continue to look around as they drove inside. It was quite nice and it looked quite homey. But his eyes turned back to the road as he drove slowly inside the complex and followed her directions.
Martha smiled at that, “Probably, but is that necessarily a bad thing?” She pointed out the entrance to the parking area, “You can just pull in here. Mine is in further.” The whole inner walkway/paths were really nice, but it kind of sucked when it rained. Luckily it wasn’t raining now and she would never have to worry about snow.
“Perfect,” he commented as he bit his lip while he drove into the area she told him to. He then parked his car and turned it off, “Well, I should probably walk you up to your door just in case there are some horrible people lurking in the bushes that may jump out at you.” As he spoke he turned to look at her with a small grin and took of his seat belt. Hopefully she would be okay with that. He just wanted to make sure that she made it up there safely, something his grandmother had instilled in him at a young age.
Martha smiled as he offered to walk her to her door and she nodded, “Alright.” She couldn’t remember the last time a guy had walked her to her door. Opening the car door, she got out and stretched. They’d been sitting for quite sometime now. “It’s this way.” She pointed towards the lit up path that ran along the koi pond, “So, I hope you didn’t mind my friends coming along with us.” She wasn’t sure if this had actually counted as a date or not.
“A koi pond? Friggin’ awesome,” he commented with a chuckle before he pressed the button to lock his car and followed along. He shook his head at her comment and flashed her a smile, “No, totally okay. But, you have to promise me that the next date will be just the two of us. I mean, we can alternate between single and group dates, but yeah.”
“You’ll have to come back and see it during the day. There are lights in it, but you can’t really see the fish right now.” Martha said as they walked along the path, towards her apartment. Her uncertainty about whether or not this had been a date was resolved by what he said next and she couldn’t help but smile, “Deal. Actually, I don’t know if you’re a hockey fan, but I’m off Saturday night and was planning on staying in and watching Game 5. If you’re not busy, you could come over, if you want.” She hoped it wasn’t too soon to be inviting him over. She hadn’t done this in awhile.
“I will make sure to come see it in the daylight. You can give me a tour of the place because it seems really nice,” he was impressed by the apartment complex and really did want to see what it looked like. When she agreed to the terms of the next date he grinned and nodded, “I don’t watch a lot of hockey, not a huge sport in Oklahoma, but I’d come over and watch it with you. Are you a crazy hockey fan? Because I really hope that I can watch you and get a chuckle over how intense you’re getting.”
“Of course. It really is much nicer during the day.” Martha said as they finally reached her complex, “Well, when you’re from Boston, it’s kind of mandatory to be a sports nut.” She smirked, “So, chances are, depending on how the game goes, you might get to laugh at me.” In that context she wouldn’t mind so much if he got a good laugh as a result of her reactions to the game.
“Perfect, what time do you want me to come over?” a smile was bright upon his face as they made their way to the nearest door. He was excited at the idea of already having a next date set when this one was about to end. Being around her was pretty easy so he was enjoying being able to spend all this time with her. And seeing how she reacted to sports would be a lot of fun considering football season would be coming up eventually.
Martha thought for a moment, “The game starts at eight, so how’s seven thirty sound? Then I can even give you a quick tour before the game starts,” She’d have to go out and get some snacks or something. She couldn’t invite him over and not feed him, after all, “Any particular beer or anything you drink?” She wanted to make sure that he had a good time after all.
“That should work perfectly. And beer? I’m pretty up for whatever. Anything very Boston-y that we should drink to support the Bruins? I promise that I am pretty easy to please,” another smile flashed her way as he chuckled and studied her for a moment. It was sweet that she wanted to make sure that he had a good time and he knew that they would. The Bruins just needed to make sure to win so that it would be an even better time.
“I’ll have to see what they’ve got out here. Not everything sold out there is sold out here.” It really was strange, especially the fact that there were some products, made by the same company, but depending on which side of the Rocky Mountains you were on, they had different names, “So, I guess I’ll see you again Saturday. You can park in the same place you’re parked now. Just text or call me when you get here and I’ll meet you out here.”
“Sounds great. Can’t wait to see you again on Saturday. And thank you for inviting me along to the movies tonight. It was a lot of fun,” he spoke softly as his eyes travelled down to her lips and he internally debated for just a moment. Before she was able to say anything in response to him he reached up to cup her cheek and leaned forward to place a soft kiss on her lips. Hopefully it wasn’t too forward, but he didn’t press his luck too much and pulled back after a few beats.
Martha hadn’t been expecting the kiss, but she certainly didn’t mind it. Unfortunately he pulled back before she could properly return it; however, if tonight was ending with a kiss then there was every chance that Saturday night could too and then she’d be prepared for it. “Me neither.” Smiling, she pulled her keys out of her purse, “Goodnight, Mickey.” With that, she unlocked the door and went inside, smiling all the while.
