Alex was out on deck and enjoying it. He smiled as he breathed in the scent of the ocean, and sipped his alcoholic drink. He had a fruity thing of low alcohol and high sugar content, and it was silly and he liked it. He wore a pair of swimming trunks, and flipflops sat next to the lounge chair as he lay in it. Ah, now that was nice.
Of course it was moonrise and not daytime, but he was enjoying it anyway. He glanced aside at Mavis, smirking as she lay in her own swimsuit, and nodded. “How’re you doing?”
Mavis had a glass of fruity iced tea within reach, and a giant, beach-blanket-sized towel draped over her chair. Her floppy hat lay on the deck beside Alex’ sandals now that the sun had sunk below the horizon and the moon was glowing cool and bright--and she smiled as Alex glanced her way.
“I’m all right,” she said, turning onto her side so she could face him. “How are you?”
He slid into the same position, smiling softly. Mavis had wormed her way, all willy nilly, into his and Lorna’s life, and affections, and she was now part of the family, somehow. And he was very glad to see her doing okay. “Okay. Weird, since the powers came back and mine didn’t. But okay. I feel almost like I cheated somehow.”
Mavis nodded. She’d felt it when her fangs had grown back--snick!--and her vampiric senses had kicked in. One minute, she could see her face reflected in the mirror, and the next, it was just gone. But she’d come prepared, so she was back on Dr. Magius’ regimen, and she had thus far kept a pretty even keel.
“I’m sure Lorna appreciates you not having to wear the bodysuit, though.”
Alex had reached out to gently squeeze one of her hands. “She does. She seems to do so quite frequently.” He grinned at Mavis, eyes dancing. “I’ve noticed there were no objections from your corner about me walking around naked in the suite.” He chuckled.
Mavis blushed as pink as her beach blanket, but she didn’t break eye contact, or pull her hand away. “No,” she said, “You are rather pleasing to the eye. But if you didn’t want me to see, I figure you would have found ways to avoid it.”
“True. I think you’re pleasing to the eye as well. And I think I’ve already told you how I feel about you seeing me naked.” He grinned wider.
Then he nodded. “You are part of my life, my friend.”
“Yes, I believe you have,” Mavis answered, feeling a warm tingling in her lower abdomen at the thought. Why, oh why did she have to be so responsive? Sometimes if she wondered how she was ever supposed to find her ‘Zing’ if she was too busy ogling absolutely everyone who gave her the day. The rest of the time, she wondered what on earth she was waiting for. “I’m sorry if I’ve been an awful tease.”
“Mavis, it’s okay. Not everyone is ready to leap in. And that’s okay.” He grinned. “Be yourself, and everything will be okay.” He squeezed her hand again.
“But if I’m not ready, then I shouldn’t...” Mavis gestured vaguely with her free hand. “Not if being myself winds up getting somebody hurt. I know you and Lorna are okay with sharing and exploring, but not everyone is you or Lorna. And not everyone is as comfortable setting boundaries like you are. Sometimes, it’s like pulling teeth just to get them to tell me what their favorite dessert is, and that they have a boyfriend.” And some were as new at all of this as Mavis.
Alex nodded. “Then maybe you’ll have to figure out what you want, or at least, how you want to be.” Alex sat up and faced her. “What do you want, Mavis? Do you want to take time to find out who you are? Do you want to explore yourself, and see who you are? Are you lonely?” He smiled softly.
“Sometimes, time is not our friend.”
Mavis sat up as well, not wanting to lose the connection that they seemed to have at the moment. Time was something that she seemed to have an excess of, once again; but she was all too aware that most of her friends and loved ones did not share that same luxury. She gulped a little at the thought of outliving everyone she knew.
“How can I be lonely when I have people like you in my life, who want to share...absolutely everything with me?” she asked, her eyes glinting in the moonlight. “I do want to take the time to know myself, but I don’t want to waste any of the time I have with you.”
Alex smiled. “And we don’t want to put any pressure on you. Yes,m we would both like to have sex with you. But we also both care about you and don’t remotely want to make your feel like sex is all there is.”
And Alex leaned forward and gently brushed a kiss on her lips, then her cheek. “Even if nothing happens physically beyond what we’ve done so far, you will always be part of our lives.”
Mavis smiled, brushing Alex’ cheek with her fingertips as he kissed her. He was so sweet to her, and so sexy. “I just...never really had anyone to talk with about these kinds of things,” she said, “I don’t remember ever seeing my father go on dates, and his version of The Talk was to provide me with all the textbooks I could ever want. And suddenly, I have all these feelings that I don’t know what to do with. How do you and Lorna manage being with more than just each other?”
“We don’t do it a lot, and we plan it out and always talk. The first time we considered it, we tossed it out, then revisited it a few months later, agreed to do it, then the other couple backed out.” He chuckled. “We know that threesome relationships rarely work, but sex with a fiend occasionally, as long as we are both involved, is something we are willing to do, at least with you.”
He smiled at her. “Don’t get me wrong. It’s never an easy thing, which is why we understand you needing time. We’re hardly masters of being put together straight, you know?”
He grinned then, wickedly. “Besides, she also knows half of what I want to do is bend you over and fuck your ass until you come while you go down on her. And we both think that sounds hot.”
“I...” Mavis started to say something, and then completely lost her train of thought as Alex spoke of his and Lorna’s fantasies involving her. “My...” She was trying to figure out how they’d gone from tentatively exploring her sexuality to fucking her ass in 3.5 seconds, and all she could think of was a scene from a certain Jacqueline Carey novel that she’d read once when she thought no one was looking. “Only half?”
“We also would like to explore other oral situations, and possibly spank you, or have you spank me. And there are more ideas, most of which are spoken of late at night when we are thinking and snuggling.” He smirked at her. “But all of this is just ideas, Mavis, and just things we fantasize about. Nothing ever will make us push you, or want you to feel awkward.”
Mavis swallowed, trying to get her heart to stop hammering in the back of her throat. It wasn’t an entirely unpleasant sensation, but it was a little bit distracting. “I never expected my first time to be quite so...adventurous,” she said, “Then again, I’m not really sure what I expected. If I expected anything at all. I feel like I’ve gone from simply noticing someone is attractive and moving on without another thought to...wanting to sleep with everything on two legs.”
Maybe a slight exaggeration, but Mavis didn’t seem to do anything small. “It’s weird.”
Alex nodded. “Do you want to pull back? It’s okay if you do? Or is it you feel like you shouldn’t move so fast?” He was curious. “I can imagine it is... I went from being a virgin at home to being exposed to military life. I saw more sex and sexual activity in my first year than I had ever heard of.” He smiled softly. “So my start was not... normal.”
“I don’t know,” she said, “It’s exciting. It’s a little bit scary. I don’t know how fast I should move, or not. It’s not so much the urge to bite when I get horny anymore so much as...worried I might wind up breaking someone’s heart.”
“That makes sense. And I will tell you this. IF they love you, even if they are hurt, they will be happy for you. If they aren’t? Then it isn’t love.”
He spoke passionately.
Mavis nodded, clasping Alex’ hands in hers. “Thank you,” she said, after a moment. “I do care for you and Lorna, very much. You’re fun, and sexy, and you’ve made me feel so, so welcome. I just never imagined I’d have to choose who I’d want to share my first time with.”
He squeezed her hands gently and smiled to her. “I can understand how hard that can be. Take your time and let yourself feel. Try to feel what feels right, not just what feels good. It’s hard sometimes, I know. I used to sleep around a lot, before suddenly I knew Lorna was the one.”
“How did you know?” Mavis asked. This was a question that had been weighing on her mind ever since she’d dreamed about the Zing. Even if it didn’t happen at first sight, even if it happened with someone other than the boy from her dreams, it seemed like it ought to be important to her.
“It was like everything else slid away. I was talking to her and looking at her and thinking about troubles and life and work, and then... I realized that none of it was as important as she was to me. That I could leave it all behind, even my family, if it meant making a life with her. And... it was just right.” He nodded. “Until then, i wasn’t sure I knew what love was. but I knew in that moment. It meant that she was the one thing I could not do without in my life if I wanted to be happy.”
Mavis sighed softly, almost dreamily. "Do you think that's what I've been waiting for all along, without even knowing it? Or...maybe I'm just scared that I won't like sex after all. That it won't be as good as my imagination. That I heal too fast and it'll hurt every time."
Or maybe it was all of the above.
“Maybe. I don’t know. It could be that part of you is afraid that sex and love will get tangled Or maybe that they won't. It’s hard to say. Fears are hard to face, and sometimes, hard to name.” He nodded, and smiled lopsidedly. “But maybe it’s time to try to find out.”
Mavis nodded. What if she was too busy exploring sex to notice when love came along? What if she fell in love with someone she couldn’t have? Why was she even worrying about love and sex at all? All of these thoughts had been weighing on her mind since she had started dreaming, and the dreams had unlocked something that had been asleep inside of her. “Maybe I should just...stop thinking so hard.”
Alex nodded. “maybe. You have a lot of time ahead. Try to take it slow. If you fall for someone, go for it. If not... try not to go too fast.” He nodded., “And enjoy yourself.”
“Thank you,” she said, leaning forward to place a kiss at the corner of his mouth. “For everything.”
Alex gently ruffled her hair. "you're welcome, Mavis. Always."
