Think you could, ah... stand to stand with me? Who: Zach and Gwen Stacy What: Meeting! When: After These texts Where: Coffee Shop Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete!
Zach had invited Gwen to the cafe he had heard about, where Dreamer friendly people ran it, and where there were secluded booths. Now that he had a better grasp of his powers, he wanted to show his friend them, and also tell her about his wedding date, and proposal, and... all of that.
So he waited, in a secluded booth, and hoped she would get here soon.
Gwen showed up not long after, glancing around the place for him. She spotted him right away, gave a grin, and headed in his direction. “Hey!” She said. She could go grab a coffee drink in a moment, after saying hello. And she wasn’t hungry before she showed up here, but those pastries looked absolutely amazing... maybe she’d have to be a little naughty.
“Hey! How are you?” He rose and hugged her. He grinned wider. “It‘s good to see you.”
“Hey!” Gwen returned his hug, then slipped into the booth with him. “Good to see you, too.” She said, smiling brightly. “How are you? I mean, I’m good. Just work and whatnot. Really, though, how are you?”
“I’m really good. Took vacation time from my job to use it up. Looking for a new one now.” He smiled softly at her. “And I asked the woman I met and fell in love with to marry me and she said yes.” He bounced and grinned at her.”We’ve set a date and everything now!:”
Gwen gave a little gasp. “That’s wonderful news, Zach! Congratulations!! When’s the date? Who’s the girl? Tessa, right? You mentioned her before. I’d love to meet her! I’m so happy for you!”
“Yes, Tessa. And October 26th.” He grinned at her. “And I’d like that. I love her more than I know how to say.” He bounced a little, eyes bright.
“Thank you. It means a lot.”
“That’s really sweet.” Gwen said, nodding. Not gonna lie, she was a little jealous. “Congratulations, Zach. Really.” She pulled up out of her seat. “I’m gonna grab a coffee.” She said, motioning toward the counter.
“Thank you, Gwen. I just wanted to share all of this with a friend.” He was fond of Gwen, a friend who had seen him through a lot of crazy. He nodded at her gesture. “Okay!”
Gwen gave him a smile, then headed over to the counter and ordered a latte. She waited by the counter, then collected the to-go cup and wandered back over to the table where Zach was sitting. “So... what’s the date?”
“October 26th. This fall.” Zach grinned. We’re still working on where and all of that.” Then he smiled slowly. “Think you could, ah... stand to stand with me?”
Gwen blinked at him. She was a little shocked. “Really? You mean, like... as a groomsman?” She asked, but was breaking into a smile. “Do I have to wear a tuxedo?”
“Yes, really. Yes, like a groomsman, and no, not if you don’t want to. We’re still working on colors and stuff for the wedding.” He grinned at her. “So what do you say?”
“Sure! I mean, yes! Of course I would! I’d be honored!” Gwen said, clapping a hand over her heart. “I’d be absolutely honored!”
Zach grinned at her. “Yay!!” He bounced and gripped one of her hands, squeezing it. “Thank you!” He was beaming, excited.
“Of course!” Gwen beamed, squeezing his hand in return. “Just tell me what I need to do. Am I going to have to buy a tuxedo? I’ve never been a groomsman before!”
“You can do a tuxedo or a dress. We’re still working on colors, but we’ll let you know before then long enough for arrangements. And I just need you to follow me up the aisle and stand with me, then, and help me watch her come toward me.”’
He smiled, sighing, eyes distant.
Gwen smirked. “I can do that. Really.” She gave him a nod. “Whatever you need. I’m there.”
Zach refocused on her and got up, coming around to hug her. “You rock. Thank you.” He nodded and then sat down. He felt calm and warm, and happy.
“We should go out and do something. Drinks, or a game, or a movie or something.”
“That sounds like a lot of fun!” Gwen said, then her phone started to buzz. She reached into her bag, giving him an apologetic look, and pulled it out. “Oh, this is work stuff. I gotta jet. But text me? We’ll go hang out, okay?” She reached over to give him a tight squeeze, then popped up out of her chair and answered her phone. “Hello? No, no, the whole system would need a reboot if you... yes. Yes, that sounds about right. I’m coming in. Don’t worry...”
“Will do! See you later, Gwen!” And he laughed as he watched her go.
