Ever since their fight the other week, Darcy had felt pretty much miserable. She hated fighting, but she hated the other stuff even more. Maybe she should have just been alone. Every time she thought she was happy, she opened her big mouth. She went over to Loki’s after he suggested that they should actually talk, and knocked on the door.
Well here went nothing. This was either going to end badly or maybe not so bad. It was hard to say which.
Loki wasn’t entirely sure himself how this might go. Truthfully, he was glad to get the chance to voice his side of things, in any case. People could be so touchy. But that didn’t stop him from pacing his living room a little while he waited for Darcy.
At the knock on the door, he glanced over.
“Come in, it’s open.”
Pushing the door open, she went inside and closed the door behind her. She wasn’t sure what it said that he wouldn’t answer the door. “Hey.” she greeted, giving a small wave. “So uh.. how are you?”
He glanced over his shoulder at her, then turned around to properly face her. No doubt she’d get uneasy if he wasn’t looking at her, and given that they seem to be walking on thin ice right now, that would be worth avoiding.
“I’m fine. Never been better. And you?”
At least he wanted to look at her. If he hadn’t, she might have just given up and gone home. “I’m okay, I guess.” Probably becoming homeless again but whatever. “So uh.. I.. I’m sorry.”
Ah, well. That was easier than he’d thought it’d be. He was sure the surprise registered on his face.
“Accepted,” Loki said. After a pause, he continued, “For the record, it wasn’t that I was amused by the dreams.” Though he had been, just a touch. “Merely that they’re not boring by any means. There’s always something unexpected in them.”
Darcy looked down at the ground and nodded her head. “Well I’m glad that you’re not amused at trying to kill me.” That was really the thing that had pissed her off. “No, I guess they’re not boring. I’d rather stick in the here and now.”
“To be fair, I wasn’t trying to kill you specifically. I was trying to kill Thor. You were simply in a poor place at a poor time.” Loki waved his hand a bit. “But they’re just dreams. You realize that, right?”
“Oh I know that. I get it, I do. But saying haha my girlfriend died in a dream isn’t exactly what most women want to hear.” Whether they were ‘true’ dreams or not. You just didn’t say that to a girl. Not if you liked her. She didn’t know how he felt about her at all.
“Fortunately, I never once said that, did I?” Loki gave her a brief smile.
Darcy sighed a little. “Why does it seem like you’re still mad at me?”
“I couldn’t tell you.” He shrugged. He truthfully wasn’t mad. Annoyed, perhaps, but that wasn’t exactly all Darcy’s fault. “I suppose I’m already exasperated by the fact that everyone I meet who’s had these dreams is going to assume I’m some sort of monster.”
“I told you that I don’t think that you’re a monster. And even though you think you didn’t do anything wrong, you hurt my feelings. I know what I did was wrong, and I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have figured that was what you meant,” she said rubbing her eyes. “I don’t know what to do to make it any better.”
“You may not, but everyone else? Thor says he doesn’t, but I can tell he does. I’m sure the others do, too.” Another shrug. “Though I’m sure I’ve apologized for my own missteps in this situation, too. So we ought to just accept one another’s sorrys and carry on.”
Darcy frowned a little and shook her head. “Your brother loves you. He’ll always love you. You’re not a monster. And other people can suck a dick.” Okay so he was right. They needed to move on. “Good, so let’s carry on and that’s that. Do you want to go get something to eat or something?”
“Yes, let’s go grab something to eat. That sounds like a fantastic idea.” Good. It was much better to just let it become water under the bridge. “Any place in mind, or should we just see where we end up?”
She thought for a moment, her little nose scrunching up and then she nodded. “Somewhere with waffles. I want waffles. Come on, sexy. You can buy me dinner.” She winked at him and offered him her hand.
“Waffles?” Loki let out a dramatic sigh, but took Darcy’s hand and grabbed his keys. “All right. We’ll find someplace with waffles.”
“What? Don’t tell me you don’t like waffles. You don’t want waffles, don’t ask me for to pick a place. Where do you want to eat, smarty pants?” she nudged him playfully.
“I love waffles. I never said I didn’t like them.” He stuck out his tongue and shooed her out the door.
She stuck her tongue right back at him. “Well then don’t sigh like it’s awful. You could just say ‘oh yes dear, that sounds like a marvelous idea.’ So hmph.” She left the door and looked around. “Your car or mine?”
"We're going to have a lot of problems if you expect me to say things like 'yes dear'." He scoffed a bit, but laughed. "Mine."
“You don’t want to say yes dear? I’m wounded.” She sighed a little. “I’m going to have to say yes dear, I guess. Lame.” She went over to his car and waited for him to open it up.
“You don’t strike me as the type, either.” Loki looked amused. He unlocked the doors and even opened Darcy’s door for her, just to prove a point. Whatever that point might be. “Look up a waffle place, or we’re ending up at IHOP.”
“Okay so we’ll go ahead and skip the yes dear bullshit.” She slid into the car with a smirk, since that was the closest thing to a ‘yes dear’ she was going to get. “Mmm.. up to you. If you want something other than waffles, I guess the waffle place.”
“You guess the waffle place.” He got into the car on the other side and looked at her. “We’re going to Bruxie. Then you can have waffle sandwiches or waffles or whatever your little waffle heart so desires. Is this a good plan?”
“I don’t know which has more waffles and which has less waffles. You pick.” He was the one bickering about waffles. Mmm Bruxie. “Good choice. Waffle sandwiches. Very good plan.” She leaned over and kissed his cheek and then buckled up.
“All right. Good.” Loki rolled his eyes (fondly), then drove off toward the nearest Bruxie so they could partake in waffles.
