Who: Percy Weasley, Sam Winchester
When: Early June
Where: The Law Firm
What: Talking about Helen’s exit
Rating/Status: Low
Status: Complete!

Percy had arrived early to work today, much like he had every other day since he’d begun working for Helen Magnus. He always arrived first. And as usual, he was the one to turn on all the lights, brew the first pot of coffee, and tidy the place up a bit before anyone else arrived. It wasn’t as if there wasn’t someone to do that - it was what the interns were for, but Percy always did like things just so.

That done, he poured himself a cup of coffee and retreated into his office to start his day.

As usual, the first thing he did once in his office was make sure everything was tidy there as well. No dust. Arrange his little plaque until it was perfectly aligned with the back of his computer. Then he looked through his schedule just to remind himself of what needed to be done for the day (not that he ever really needed reminding, but still). Once this was all done, he felt it safe to really start in on his work. Email was first (and frequent throughout the day, but always first).

He was surprised to find an email from Helen Magnus herself waiting there. So he read it. And then he read it again. Percy blinked. And then he frowned. “Sam?” He said it loudly--calling out, instead of getting up like he usually might. Surely, Sam had wandered into the office by now. They clearly needed to talk.

Sam had wandered into the office by now. He was still wearing his messenger bag over his shoulder, and was pouring himself a coffee one-handedly while holding his phone up with the other. He was gaping at the email, which he’d read twice.

The calling of his name brought him back to his senses, just in time to prevent him over-filling his mug and spilling the coffee all over the counter or floor. “...Percy?” He called back, then set the coffee pot back into its machine holder. He lifted his mug and turned to wander toward Percy’s office, still holding his cell phone stupidly in his hand. Once he was in the doorway, he leaned against it and blinked at Percy.

“Have you seen this?”

Percy was still staring at his screen, but took a moment to glance up at Sam, motioning to the free chair in his office for Sam to sit.

Then it was right back to the screen, bright blue eyes fixed to it in a way that said he was reading yet again. “I presume you’re talking about this email,” he said, and it wasn’t really a question. Of course he was talking about that email. It was currently the only email worth talking about.

“Yes.” Sam said. He felt a little shellshocked as he came into Percy’s office and sat down in the chair in front of Percy’s desk. He lifted his coffee mug to sip from it and frowned. He’d forgotten to add sugar. Damn.

“...so. What are your thoughts?” Sam’s heart was thundering. What on Earth? This had to be the strangest six weeks ever.

Luckily, Percy noticed Sam’s expression, and almost absently opened the top drawer of his desk and pulled out a few packets of sugar for the other man. He kept some handy, since he so often drank his coffee too-sweet.

“I think...” He looked a bit perplexed for a moment, pausing. “I think we technically have that firm we were talking about previously.” Well, not technically. There would be a lot of paperwork to actually make that the case. But -- they had a start. He wasn’t sure if he was excited or beginning to feel ill about it, though.

“What, Weasley and Winchester?” Sam asked, finally breaking into a confused smile. He was like a kid being given a chocolate bar before dinner. Surprised, but pleased. Of course, he’d been thinking about the things they could do if they had their own firm. Branches they could explore, days they could actually take off.

“...I think it’s... about time, actually.” Sam added. The last month had been really, really hard.

And if not days they could take off, then at least the satisfaction of being in charge and taking a higher cut. And hiring. Paperwork. And -- well. Everything.

Percy blinked, going a bit pink, like he was wont to do over just about everything. “Weasley and Winchester?” he repeated, but it was a bit of a squeak.

"Yeah." Sam blinked at him in return. "Unless you wanted to call it something else?" He didn't care who got 'top billing' so to speak. And that sounded better than 'Winchester and Weasley' anyway.

Percy was more concerned about alphabetical ordering than he was whose name it really was that went first. “No,” he said after a moment. “I -- like that.” He covered his mouth with his hand, and then thought better of it, and adjusted his glasses instead. “It’s just very sudden. I wasn’t expecting...” He trailed off, which was a little unusual for him. “It’s going to be a lot of paperwork.”

“I’m sure you can handle it.” Sam said, breaking into a grin. He paused for a moment. “We should probably change location as well as name. Get a fresh start,” he added, thoughtfully, looking up and around the office.

“I don’t see why,” Percy said, looking quite perplexed. “If we’re running with the same clients, wouldn’t it be wiser to stay here? No need to scare off what we already have.” The fact of the matter was, yes, he probably could handle it -- Percy had always been good at business type-decisions and the work that went into them.

“I suppose.” Sam shrugged a little. “We could probably save money on rent, though, if we find a place with a little less space. We don’t need Helen’s office anymore, and the lobby and the break room are relatively superfluous.” He suggested, thinking about it. “Then again, we don’t want to scare clients away with two big changes in such a short time.”

“Exactly what I was going for,” Percy said. He did not mention that he didn’t want to frighten himself with so many large changes as well, but it was rather on his mind. Too much at once was occasionally just that. Too much.

“I’d say we work on the important things first. Clients - how to keep them. The paperwork and business aspect. Changing the name.” Anyway, he liked the lobby.

Sam nodded. “I like that plan. Work with the clients first and foremost. See what they want from the new firm. If anything different from the way things have been running.” It gave them a game plan. A place to start, anyway. Sam stood from his chair and lifted his coffee. He’d have to go add some sugar. “We’ll just split the roster. I’ll take the latter half. Start contacting clients today.”

“Right,” Percy agreed, already pulling out a legal pad and taking notes. “Seems ---” he looked up, gave a little blink. “Doable.” They could do this. They’d talked about it before. Now they just needed to put it into effect.

Sam stood in the doorway for a moment. “Good luck. We’ll reconnect about lunch time. See where we stand. Then we’ve got a couple of meetings this afternoon we shouldn’t reschedule.” He gave Percy another little nod, then headed off to his office.
