Who: Mako and Amy Pond When: Early June Where: XYZ Modelling What: Modelling gig Rating/Status: Low Status: Complete!
Amy might have just gotten a new contract for modeling, but Mako never really had one at all -- he did a lot of one time deals, or lines with certain fashions or products, and more or less just went places when he was called. It was all really weird, and a little confusing, but he thought he was doing okay as long as the paychecks kept coming in.
Today he was working for someone new completely -- and he was pretty sure it was for some kind of hair care product. Mako would be the first to admit he didn’t love those, since mostly it was sitting around while someone took forever and a day to make your hair both ridiculous and perfect.
And his hair did look both ridiculous and perfect. Amy showed up from her own hair and make-up crew, breaking into a grin at the sight of him. Hers was plain, boring. As this was hair product for men they were shooting. She gave a little laugh.
“Never figured you to be one for the faux-hawk. It’s good on you, though!” She said with a laugh.
“There’s nothing good about this,” Mako said with a Face. You know the kind of face. Nonetheless, he was pleased to be working with Amy some more - she was always a delight, and so he smiled and gave a shrug.
Face with a capital F. Amy laughed harder at the Face, and the clapped him on the shoulder, playfully. “Come on, it’s not that bad. Let’s just hope we’re not snogging in this one.” Not that they’d done that before. Most of their shoots were flirtatious or sultry, but never overtly sexual. They had a lot of fun posing together, and it really came through in the photos.
To be fair, Mako would rather have to kiss someone he knew and joked around with than some stranger. A lot of the female models were a little intimidating; he’d much prefer working with Amy, who delighted in quoting Zoolander than someone who took things serious to the point of frightening.
“No, no. It’s not horrible,” he agreed, looking abashed. “My girlfriend’ll make fun of me though. Like she needed more reasons.”
“Ha!” Amy beamed. “Like girlfriends ever need more reasons to make fun.” She said, looping her arm through Mako’s to walk with him from the make-up table to the set. She was in a much better mood now than she was the last time they’d worked together. She had a new place to live now, and had a lawyer, and things were in motion. She wasn’t in limbo anymore, wasn’t miserable fighting with her husband.
She did seem happier -- but Mako didn’t exactly think it was his place to point this out. They were friends, but maybe not good enough of friends to talk about personal stuff like that. Maybe some day, though. “Yeah, tell me about it,” he said, but his eyeroll was a bit affectionate.
Their friendship was growing, for sure. But it was a nice thing he didn’t ask. Bringing it up might spoil her mood. Amy moved with him over to where the director was to give them instructions on what the shoot was going to be today. They were doing stills and video for a commercial or series of commercials, depending on how well the shots went.
Mako leaned over close to Amy’s ear before anyone really important started talking. “They’re gonna tell us to stare into the fans again. I can tell.”
Amy didn’t laugh, though she wanted to. “Think we should give ‘em the Blue Steel?”
Mako’s face also remained stoic. Really, he was very good at this. “I’m going straight for Magnum.”
Amy gasped, though her face betrayed a hint of amusement. “Are you sure they can handle it?”
“I’ve been working on it for a decade. It’s time to let it loose.” All false, but whatever.
“God help us all.” Amy teased, though now she was breaking into a grin.
“There’s no being saved here, Amy. You’ve just got to roll with the punches.” He stood up straight again, hiding his amusement by biting at his lower lip.
At the very least, he could find fun in the oddest of places.
