Who: Zuko + Draco
What: Disney + Draco’s birthday
When: 6/5
Where: Disney
Rating: Surprisingly low for these two!
Status: Complete
For all the time he'd lived in California, Zuko could honestly say he hadn't been to Disney. He'd asked a few times when he was younger, but his father hadn't exactly been the sort to take his children…er. Anywhere.
Anyway, he was a bit excited for it. Draco deserved to have a good birthday after all the stress of the last few months, and this seemed like a good way to do it. Oh. He guessed Pansy deserved that too.
After arriving at the hotel and dropping their things, the Japanese boy rose his eyebrows at Draco. "What first?"
Draco loved disneyland almost as much as Pansy did, they’d been a lot as kids. He was excited that this was Zuko’s first time and wanted to show him everything. Which they would definitely do by the end of the vacation.
“I was going to suggest walking to the castle” he replied moving closer and placing his hands on Zuko’s hips, “Unless there’s anything you want to do?” he asked, bending to kiss his neck.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start,” Zuko admitted with a little laugh, tilting his head to the side to allow Draco more access. He was willing to do whatever Draco liked though -- people who visited the place often would know best, after all.
"Then castle it is" he declared, happy now Zuko had been visibly marked, apparently the overprotectiveness was still here. "We should go now before I change my mind and we stay in the hotel bed for the rest of the day."
Zuko let out a snort at that, shaking his head. “There’s time for that later. I actually want to see things.” Not that he really would have turned down sex if it was actually being offered, but still.
He took his husbands hand and moved to open the door; clearly, he had no problems with the over protectiveness or being marked.
"You'd still see things" Draco said, "They just wouldn't be child appropriate" he smirked. But moved out of their room with Zuko. He was looking forward to just being with him. Main street first which would lead to the castle, the first view of it was always pretty cool.
Rolling his eyes, Zuko bumped shoulders playfully with Draco and the let himself be led out of the place and up to whatever street the other man wanted to walk up. “So,” he said, eyeing the children and the floral everything a bit warily. “Are you okay?” He knew by now Pansy had stated her intent on moving out.
Draco nodded, "Its going to be weird" he admitted, "I'm gonna miss her, we've never lived apart, but she has Peter and I have you so we will all be fine" he smiled as he squeezed Zukos hand, "And you know we will end up visiting and vice versa"
“No, really,” Zuko replied, tone wry. “I thought we’d never see her again.” He gripped Draco’s hand a little harder to offset his sarcasm, and then gave a little nod. “I think it’ll be good for us all, though.” Sex in the kitchen certainly had appeal.
Draco smiled and stuck his tongue out at Zuko, though he actually appreciated the lighthearted teasing. "It means I get you all to myself so I have to agree" he nodded raising their joined hands so he could kiss the back of Zukos.
Zuko agreed with that too. “You already had me all to yourself,” he said, though, because sometimes he just liked arguing. He glanced up at where they were walking, interested in the castle and all the other stuff around. “Is it bad this is exciting? I thought this place was only for kids.”
"Yes but now we can have sex in the kitchen without worrying about Pansy" Yes they really were on the same wavelength. Draco grinned, "You're supposed to be excited" he said, "Disneyland is for everybody, its a magical place" he added bumping their shoulders.
“I’ve seen real magic,” Zuko teased, and was honestly just a bit pleased over their weird wavelength of thinking. Maybe they were both just that transparent? “And Mickey Mouse has nothing on what you can do.” But the fact remains, once they get up the hill and by the castle, that it is fun and different and he’s enjoying it. And they haven’t even been on a ride yet.
Draco beamed at that, he may have been a mouse but Mickey was cool so he was very pleased with that comment. Disneyland really was incredible, just the feelings it could bring out in people were amazing. "So should we wander or go on rides first?" he asked, letting Zuko chose.
“Not Haunted Mansion,” Oh, look! Zuko had really found his humor again! It was like a switch that turned on once every few weeks. “I shouldn’t have to pick. It’s your birthday. We should do whatever you want, today.” Although he secretly had some high hopes for Space Mountain. He wasn’t even sure why.
“We’ll do what I want back at the hotel later” he told Zuko with a waggle of his eyebrows before laughing at himself. “Okay, Space Mountain then the Indiana Jones ride?” he suggested, “I’m in the mood for a good roller coaster.”
Zuko’s smile was small and nearly shy at that, although he had no real reason for it to be other than a tiny play at being demure for once. “Seems good,” he said, pulling the other boy over to a little stand so that they might grab a map. He opened it awkwardly with one hand, since he was unwilling to let Draco’s go with his other. “Space is --er. That way?”
Demure was fun, and Zuko pulled it off fairly well. “Yep, that way” he nodded, perfectly happy to keep hold of Zuko’s hand, he liked holding it, it was reassuring. “I think you’ll like this ride” Draco said, “It’s the best, Pansy and I once rode it non-stop for practically the whole day” he grinned.
“Did you?” Sometimes it was very hard to imagine Draco as a child -- and Pansy too, for that matter. He supposed it was hard some days to even remember himself as a child. Things had been a lot different back then. “That’s...cute.”
“It was until we ate burgers and ice cream and threw up” Draco chuckled as he remembered it, “Not so cute. But still a great time. We won’t be doing that, twice is enough” he added with a wink.
Somehow that story wasn’t surprising, considering what he knew about Pansy’s burger habits. Zuko could only shake his head in silent amusement, even as they stepped into the queue for the ride. Rollercoasters were weird, if only because they had such a long line for such a short drop. “We should find a place to get you cake later.” Zuko was very intent on making this seem like a proper sort of birthday for Draco.
Draco smiled, "You know I'm always happy to find cake" he replied pulling Zuko closer by their joined hands. "And I need to say thank you properly for my birthday gift" which was hanging around his neck right now. It had immediately become something he wouldn't remove, like his wedding ring.
Zuko had thought the necklace might suit him, and was pleased Draco liked it. It seemed like a very small gift to give someone, but hadn’t quite been able to think of anything else his husband might want or need. “I’m glad you like it,” he said, almost shy. He wasn’t the best with gifts.
“I love it” he assured his husband, lifting their hands to place another kiss on the back of Zuko’s, “It was perfect” They shuffled down the queue, he’d been pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t crazy busy, though the schools hadn’t all broken up yet so they’d probably hit it just right.
“You’ll get more later, in any case.” Because Zuko was nineteen, even if he didn’t always act like it. Sometimes, just like any kid his age, all he did was think about sex. But for now he’d be happy to just go on some rides and have normal fun. It was rare for them - to be able to just wander around and not have to worry about anything.
The line didn’t take too much longer from there, and after that they pushed into some seats on the ride and laughed over just how cheesy the ride was. There were neon lights and fake stars all over the place.
Oh Draco was counting on it. Their hotel room would definitely see lots of use because, yes they were nineteen and they both had healthy sexual appetites. Especially when they could both relax and actually enjoy being together.
He kept hold of Zuko’s hand throughout the ride as they laughed and joked, it was still a fun ride and definitely one of the better rollercoasters. He was looking forward to seeing the picture that had been taken of them halfway through.
Zuko was sure at one particular dip he’d actually giggled -- oddly, he saw no reason to actually be ashamed of it.
They stood in line for a while, too look at the photos taken. It was not surprising to find that the take had been -- well. Very them. Zuko was looking upward in a near eyeroll, and Draco had on that mirthful look about him that he got whenever he said something too clever. “Well,” Zuko said dryly, poking at the screen with them on it. “It looks like us, anyway.”
Draco laughed, “We’ll take one” he told the girl behind the counter, “Gotta commemorate everything with it being your first time and all” he grinned at Zuko.
Zuko gave a snort and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “Leave it to you to make Disneyland sound like some sordid, dirty place.”
“Disneyland is a sordid, dirty place babe” Draco told him as he paid and took the photo, retaking Zuko’s hand as they walked out, “But it’s good fun all the same”
“You’re terrible,” he told Draco, but it was clear from his tone that he thought the exact opposite.
“Come on” he teased, “Mickey totally pimps out Minnie - have you seen how many people she poses with around here?” he grinned, “And there’s so much beastiality. Ducks, dogs, and who the hell knows what Goofy is!”
Zuko barked out a laugh at that. “He’s a dog,” he said, grinning and squeezing Draco’s hand. “A dog who has a dog for a pet.” That had always really confused him as a child. Why couldn’t Pluto talk?
“He’s a weird looking dog and he should really be more on it with equality if that’s so. Poor Pluto” Draco replied with a nod.
“They all look funny,” Zuko agreed, glancing at a big sign with Mickey on it that they were currently passing by. “I never liked Mickey Mouse stuff. Is that bad? It just never seemed very funny.” Nor had he liked Looney Tunes, or Tom and Jerry, now that he thought on it. Mostly, he’d just felt bad for the antagonists.
"Not sure all Mickey stuff was about the humor" Draco replied casually, "I preferred the more mainstream films to be honest, the classic Disney's."
“Oh?” He glanced at the blond, and gave an amused wink. “And which Disney Princess did you want to be?”
Draco raised an eyebrow at his grinning husband, "I'll have you know I would have made an awesome Cinderella" he replied with a smirk.
“Mm,” Zuko agreed. “You have the hair for it.” He bumped shoulders with the other boy, as if to show he was joking. “What do you think? Would I have to be Mulan in that case? I always rather wished to be Aladdin when I was small.”
Draco did laugh at that, "You love my hair" he said confidently, "You'd make a great Aladdin. Cute, cheeky, adorable. It works. I like Abu in that one, he makes me laugh. Most sensible of the lot of them that monkey was"
“I do love your hair,” Zuko agreed, and wasn’t even being silly. He just did, seriously, love his husband’s hair. “And are you kidding? That money was a greedy fuck. The rug was the most sensible.” He may have watched that movie a lot as a child.
And that was part of the reason why Draco wouldn't change it, he loved it when Zuko played with his hair. It was almost comforting. Draco laughed, "They were thieves, he did what he needed to do and didn't get distracted by pretty girls. The rug is pretty cool though, lot of attitude for a piece of carpet"
“Got to love a sassy carpet,” Zuko agreed with a fond sort of smile even as they ended up in the queue for the Indiana Jones ride. “I still think the monkey was dumb, though.” Sometimes he argued just for the sake of it.
"That's just mean. And monkeyist" Draco teased. Noticing this queue was a little longer than the others he moved his other hand to Zukos hip, stealing a quick kiss as he stroked his thumb along the skin on Zukos hand. This was nice, playful and relaxed. Maybe they should just stay here.
Surely no one would notice if the just lived in Disneyland, right? They could just camp out in the Castle, and no one would be any the wiser about it. They could live off of ice cream bars shaped like Mickey Mouse and cheese burgers.
“It’s true,” Zuko said after another quick kiss. “I hate monkeys. And if I’m wrong, I do not want to be right.” Was that the way that saying went? Zuko was very bad with sayings, sometimes.
Living in the castle was definitely a plan Draco could get behind. Nothing bad would happen in Disneyland, they could live happily ever after.
"Its okay. My love for you is stronger than my love for monkeys" he smirked. He loved the way Zuko said the sayings even if it wasn't always correct.
Well, it wasnt his fault anyway. English wasn't his first language, after all.
"Good," he said, wrapping his arm around Draco's shoulders even as the line shuffled along at a grueling pace. "I'd hate to be jealous of primates."
"Never" Draco said, "You'll never have a need to be jealous of anybody, primates included" he promised as they shuffled.
Zuko didn’t quite look smug, but he was close. “So it’s safe to go to the zoo some day, yet. Good to know.”
Draco snorted, "Yeah we can go to the zoo safely when you feel the urge"
“There is no urge, that’s the point. Already said I didn’t like monkeys.” Zuko was clearly on a roll today.
That earned him an eye roll, “They have more than just monkeys at the zoo” he replied with a grin.
"You're terrible." Zuko pointed out, and not for the first time. "I like it."
“Of course you do” Draco replied smugly, “That’s why we’re such a good match” They had finally reached the front of the queue and Draco managed to pull Zuko quickly enough to snag the front two seats in the lead car.
“Of course it is,” Zuko said, as he slipped into the seat next to Draco, holding on to the little bar the clamped down for safety.
It was a silly ride that reenacted the more adventurous parts of the movie -- rolling boulders and jungles and all. Zuko enjoyed it more than he should have.
It was one of Dracos favorite rides, maybe that was because he also really quite enjoyed the films too - except the last one because really? What was that?
As they got off the ride Draco laughed and slung his arm over Zuko’s shoulders, “We have to do that one again later” he told his husband with a grin.
They just didn’t talk about that fourth movie. If they didn’t talk about it, they could pretend it’d never happened. It was the way of the film world.
Zuko only bobbed his head in agreement, slipping his arm around Draco’s waist. “Let’s find you that cake now.”
“Cake sounds like a perfect plan” Draco readily agreed, cake and a drink would do nicely then they could do a bit more wandering around before attempting any fast rides again.
“I know,” Zuko said, golden eyes looking around the place seriously, as if his mission for cake were literally the most important thing on the planet right now. And to be fair, it kind of was. And wasn’t that a nice feeling? Urgency for nothing that important at all? “I thought of it. It has to be perfect.”
“Ah of course, how silly of me” Draco replied grinning and pulling Zuko close to his side. “So where is your cake radar telling you to go?” he teased.
Rolling his eyes, Zuko smiled anyway, and then playfully sniffed at the air. Really, he was in a good mood. This had been a good idea - he should probably tell Pansy so later on. “Mm. I think... left.”
“Then left it is” Draco agreed giggling as they steered themselves in that direction, “You’re such a handy husband” This really had been a good idea, Zuko wasn’t the only one who would be telling Pansy how good later on.
“Right?” Zuko wedged his hand into Draco’s back pocket -- but quickly found that couples who did that sort of thing were crazy, because he couldn’t seem to walk properly with it there. He took his hand back with a thoughtful frown. “I mean. I can find cake... start fireplaces and back yard grills with no problem...”
Yeah, that was definitely something the films romanticised because it didn’t work at all. Still hand holding or arms around the shoulder or waist did work well. “Give the best kisses and make the most amazing noises when we’re alone” Draco added softly into Zuko’s ear, “The best husband ever”
“I hope that’s never a real competition,” the Japanese boy was squinting at a set of shops on the strip - one of those had to have candy and cake type things. “It would be bad for the both of our egos if we didn’t actually win. What is there’s someone out there who makes better noises?” He was very good at not blushing lately.
“We’d win, pretty sure there’s no married couple better than us” he replied confidently, “And there is nobody who makes better noises than you” Draco’s voice dropped as he assured Zuko.
“You have to say that.” Zuko pulled Draco into one of the shops that boasted candy and cupcakes. “If you weren’t biased, it’d be problematic.”
"I'll prove it to you later" he said, his hand slipping down to squeeze Zukos ass before returning to his waist. "Oh wow, I've never seen so many Disney themed cupcakes before" It really was rather amazing
Zuko only rolled his eyes at that, but gave a faint smile anyway.
There were, indeed, a lot of Disney cupcakes. Zuko frowned at most of them, because despite his significant sweettooth, he didn’t really like frosting. “They’re--decorative.”
Draco laughed, “Too much for you?” he asked, “They might have different ones at another place.” Standing still as they were looking at the cakes Draco wrapped his arms around Zuko from behind and lent his chin on Zuko’s shoulder.
“Or you could just eat all the frosting off. I doubt we’ll find anything more subtle than these in a place like Disney.” They didn’t exactly go low-key.
“True” Draco agreed, nuzzling into Zuko’s neck he added, “I’ll happily lick your frosting off for you” he smirked.
Zuko reached up to pet Draco’s hair affectionately. “You can make nearly anything an entendre, can’t you.” Not really a question. “Pick some cupcakes. I guess we should get enough for Pansy and Peter, too.”
“It’s a gift” Draco quipped, “Besides I have added incentive when I’m around you” he kissed Zuko’s neck before pulling back to pick cupcakes. “Yeah, she’d go all cupcake-zilla on us if not” he grinned. He picked out an Aladdin set for them and then Disney princesses for Peter and Pans.
Sort of fitting. Also a little funny. Zuko approved greatly of the chosen sets, although said nothing about it even as he pulled his wallet out to front the bill for the things. And then, just because he was feeling particularly upbeat, he got some ice cream for Draco and himself. There was little better than shared ice cream.
Even though he said nothing Draco knew he approved, just one of the many reasons they were perfect for each other. Zuko didn’t need to say anything for Draco to know how he was feeling. “Ice cream to share too” he said, “I’m a lucky spoiled boy”
“Only because it’s your birthday.” It wasn’t true, but best not to let it all go to Draco’s head. Zuko offered him the ice cream as he signed his credit card slip. It was really just a good sort of day.
