The little town was quaint, Azula decided. They were still an hour or so from Barcelona, and they’d made terrible time, but she didn’t care. She was relaxed in a way she hadn’t been in months. No danger, no problems. Just her and Ty Lee and a beautiful world all around them.
She picked up something that seemed fancy and cute. “Ty Lee? Would you like something like this?”
Ty Lee was perking up more by the minute. Spain was pretty, and the language sounded so pretty! All the little things in the market were pretty, too. She hugged Azula with one hand, and nodded at the cute little doll. “Oh, it’s adorable! But what would I do with it?”
“I don’t know. Put it somewhere? We need more.. color in our home. That’s not red.” She loved red but maybe it was time to find better colors.
Ty Lee nodded. “I guess you’re right. If you like it too we should get it.” Maybe it would look nice on a shelf? It probably would. She wondered if Azula’s desire for other colors was a sign that she was giving up the last of her interest in being part of her family. Ty Lee really hoped that was the case.
“You know what, lets get it. I’m sure it’s for tourists anyway, but that’s why we’re here, right?” She smiled. For some reason, that felt....freeing.
Ty Lee grinned and nodded. “Ok! We can get some new lamps and pictures when we get home, too. I bet our place would look nice with more colors!” She was beginning to feel like herself again. She hoped decorating the house would help this feeling last.
“We’ll repaint.” Azula decided, just then. “And we won’t hire anyone, we’ll do it ourselves.” she liked the idea of making it their own. Of washing away the way things had been before and starting over, almost.
“Oh! Can part of it be pink?” Ty Lee asked with a smile. “I think painting with you will be fun. And picking out furniture! Oh, we can get neat stuff!”
Azula rolled her eyes, then she laughed. “We’ll paint a room pink just for you.” She brought the doll over to the cashier to pay for it. “Is there anything else you wanted while we’re still here?”
Ty Lee shook her head. “The doll is enough.”
“Okay, as you wish.” She paid, then held her hand out for Ty Lee. “I think our next stop shall be Barcelona. I wonder if they’re doing that bull thing or not. That might be fun.”
“I don’t know, but we’ll find out!” Ty Lee took Azula’s hand, then pulled her into a deep, eager kiss. This trip was good for all of her emotional issues. She didn’t think intimacy with her wife would be a problem tonight.
For the first time since that man had hurt Ty Lee, Azula felt a surge of hope, and a spark of her old fire. No, not her old fire. A new fire. A new beginning. She kissed Ty Lee back, and shared her love through the action.
This, Ty Lee decided, was the most perfect moment she would ever experience. Better than their wedding, or the first night of their honeymoon. The kiss broke slowly, and she met Azula’s eyes, a warm smile on her face. “I love you, Azula.”
Azula stroked Ty Lee’s cheek, eyes brimming with tears. “I love you too, Ty Lee. I love you.”
