Who: Zuko and Amy Pond
When: After the Zuko/Amy post with the music lessons.
Where: Amy’s new place, which is actually Zuko’s old place
What: Keys, walk-through, rent check
Rating/Status: Low
Status: Complete!
Amy showed up at the address trying to be positive about the whole thing. She was still staying in the hotel, though she was hoping that after getting the keys and doing the walk-through she could move in. Maybe even today. At least with the clothes that she had. She needed to run a load of laundry (or three) and was looking forward to cooking her own food in her own kitchen.
She stopped on the front porch and knocked, wondering if he was here yet.
Zuko was here. He’d just been cleaning the place up a little before Amy showed up -- not that it was a mess or anything, just he’d left it a bit of a clutter when he’d sort of moved out.
“Hey,” he said, upon opening the door for Amy, and letting her in. The condo was actually quite large -- it had a decently sized kitchen, a big bathroom with a washer and dryer in it, and three bedrooms. Everything was already furnished, too. Really, the price that Zuko had decided on charging her per month was a ridiculous steal on her part. Then again, he already technically owned the place, so it wasn’t really as if he needed the money for payments.
“Come in, look around or... you know. Whatever.”
“Hey! Thanks.” Amy said, stepping through the threshold and looking around. She was already floored. It was big, roomy, and the furnishings looked either really new or really well taken care of. And the price? He was really giving her a deal. A steal, even. It was a fantastic place.
“... are you sure this is okay? I mean... I can get my own furnishings and whatnot, if that’s what you want.” Amy didn’t have much of anything. She’d been staying with friends before she met her soon-to-be ex-husband, and they eloped and moved in together--Amy moving in with him to his place which was already furnished.
Zuko only shrugged. “I live with Draco now, and he’s already got furniture and things. If you don’t like any of the stuff, I’ll take it off your hands or get rid of it.” He followed her around as she wandered the place, because he assumed that was what you were meant to do. “But if you want it here, I’m glad to let you use whatever you want.”
“No, it’s great,” Amy said, giving a nod. She gave him a smile, then turned to wander through the place. “Show me around? Three bedrooms, you said?”
“Right,” Zuko agreed. The living room and kitchen were evident and obvious, so he felt no need to speak about them, instead leading her down the hall. “Bathroom. It’s got a washer and dryer, which is nice, I guess.” He was used to things being on the extravagant side. “Over here’s the guest bedroom. That one’s an office-type room.” Whatever those were for. He wasn’t sure. “And the master bedroom is here.” It was decently sized with a walk in closet.
Amy was absolutely floored. It was amazing of him to be renting this place to her for such a great price. She, too, didn’t know what she’d do with the office-type room, though she was thinking it would be a good place for her computer. And then bedroom with the walk-in closet. Holy cow. She was grinning brightly when she jumped over to poke her head in.
“Wooooowwwwww.” She said. “I’m not going to have enough hangers for this closet,” she added. Amy wasn’t very girly, she didn’t have a huge wardrobe... but she’d never had a closet to fill like this one before.
Zuko’s smile was oddly indulgent over all this. Honestly, he was just glad he could do something with the place that was good, considering that it was his father's money that had bought it the first place. The condo could use some good karma. “So -- it seems good?” He didn’t have a lease or anything, but he suspected he could trust Amy not to fuck the place up.
“It’s perfect, Zuko. Really. I can’t thank you enough! Is there a yard?” She added. It was a condo, and they didn’t always have yards. Sometimes just shared space. “Garage?”
“There’s a parking garage. As well as a few just normal outdoor spaces.” Zuko gestured to the outdoors. “I can show you that on the way out.” He’d never used it, if he had to be honest. “There’s a little -- uh. you know. Patch of grass out there. That’s just mine. But then there’s a shared part too.” He’d never used that either, if he had to be doubly honest. “It’s right out the back door.”
“Sure.” Amy nodded. She didn’t need a yard. A nice place for her car would be good, so she didn’t have to fight for street parking, but that didn’t really matter, either. She could always walk or take mass transit so she wouldn’t have to deal with moving her car. “God, it’s perfect.” She said, unable to stop smiling. Her cheeks were hurting now. “I can’t even tell you how much.”
“I can kind of tell,” Zuko said, vaguely uncomfortable over her never ending smile, and the way she kept saying the word perfect. It was kinda -- well. A lot. “Well.” a pause. “Cool. Well. Uh. Rent on the first? I guess it’d be cool to know if you ever had anyone else living with you, just for the sake of--er. Knowing.” He shrugged, and then fished for the keys he’d made in his pocket.
“Sorry,” Amy confessed, “It’s just... with so much shit coming down on me all at once, it’s nice to know that some of my stress is coming off my shoulders. This is such a relief to be off my plate. It’s probably affecting me disproportionately, but who can handle these sorts of things when everything’s turned upside down?”
“Fuck if I know,” Zuko said, honestly. He was always a mess -- be it his family making trouble, or being possessed, it was rare he had a completely good week. He might not be going through the same thing, but he could understand at least a little. “It’s no problem.”
But at least Zuko was a hot mess. ba dum ching.
“Well, thanks again, anyway, and I promise that’s the last time I’ll say it.” She reached out a hand so he could put the keys into it. “I’ll take really good care of your place, I swear it.”
He dropped the keys into her hand and gave a solemn little nod. “It’s no problem. Like I said, it’s nice to see it in use. If there’s ever a problem with it just give me a call or a text. Sorry in advance for when the maintenance and gardening guys come around.” It was always at stupid o’clock in the morning when he was trying to sleep for some reason. Oh well. At least they didn’t have to mow the lawn.
He stood there awkwardly for a moment, and then shrugged. “Well. I’ll leave you to it, then.”
Amy loved the weight of the keys in her hand. Much better than the hotel key card. She smiled and nodded, giving them a little shake. "Thanks again," she said even though she was trying not to sound like a broken record. "I'll be in touch. Enjoy the cds."
