Pansy was in her room on the computer, having just made all the plans and arrangements for their Disneyland trip. She’d sent notes to the three men in her life, and was looking forward to talking to Zuko about moving in with Peter. She hadn’t told Draco yet, though she’d been doing her research. And spending a lot of time at Peter’s place.
She pulled her headphones off and closed her laptop in anticipation of Zuko coming in to meet with her.
Which he did not a moment later -- really, these two held a lot of conversations over the internet for only being one room over from another. Still, he knocked even as he opened the door; he’d learned his lesson some months previous and was always a bit careful now. “Hey.”
“Hey.” Pansy said, turning around at the sound of the knock and his voice. She sat up a bit in her computer chair. “Come on in, shut the door.” She wasn’t sure if Draco was home or not, but she needed Zuko’s advice without her brother overhearing.
Zuko seemed a little perplexed over this behavior, but said nothing about it. Instead, he shut the door as asked, and then moved to perch on the edge of her bed, since she was in the only chair in the room. “What’s up?”
Pansy sat up a little, planting both feet on the floor, then leaned forward with her hands on her knees. She finally brought her eyes to Zuko’s face. “Peter’s asked me to move in with him.” She said, softly. (Might explain the stack of moving boxes sticking partially out of her closet.)
It might have explained that, yes. Had Zuko noticed them at all. He wasn’t in Pansy’s room nearly enough to know what was different or normal. “Oh,” he said, raising his brow and tilting his head to the side a little. “Really? What did you say?”
“Yes. I told him yes.” Pansy said. “Well, at first I thought he was proposing. It was terrifying. It was right after a huge fight, I really didn’t know what he was going on about. But I’m excited. It makes sense... I think you guys really need your space. And I’m ready to let you guys have it.”
While Zuko wasn’t really opposed to the idea of more space, he honestly had no problem living with Pansy, either. But probably that was not the proper thing to say here, since it was clearly she wasn’t looking for an assurance that staying was alright. “Congratulations then. I’m happy for you.” A pause, considering. “You haven’t told Draco.”
Pansy actually kinda loved living with Draco and Zuko, to be honest. But being walked in on in the bathtub? And Draco and Zuko would like, make out on the sofa and stuff... It was just time for them to have their own space. Also, she wanted to be able to have sex with Peter in every room in the house--which she couldn’t do here, or (heaven forbid) at his place.
“No. I haven’t told him yet. I’m afraid he’s going to be... upset.”
Zuko was quiet for a moment, like he was prone to being, glancing down at his hands and considering his very shortly cropped nails for a moment. “I don’t think he’ll be upset, Pansy,” he said finally. He didn’t want it to come off insensitively, so kept going. “People need space all the time. It just happens. ...Do you want me to tell him?”
“You think?” She shot out in that quick pause. Then she went quiet for her own quick moment. “...as tempting as it is, I really should be the one to tell him. I don’t want to hurt his feelings. Honestly, I could probably stay here forever. But you guys need your space as much as I need mine.” She said. And it was true. It was slightly sad, but they were all entering new phases.
Those things happened. It was new for them all, but the timing wasn’t really wrong, even when it was sudden. It wasn’t really like Zuko had planned on getting married when he did. He was just impulsive. And then it’d happened. He nodded, solemn. “He won’t be upset. He’ll understand. And -- yes, you’re probably right. If you’d like, I can be around for it though.” The Japanese boy was an oddly good brother, considering.
"I don't think that's necessary. If you really think he's not going to freak out, then I have nothing to worry about." She gave him a smile. Talking with Zuko was quite a relief. "Hey, he won't be home for a while, you wanna go get some Mario Kart practice in while we have the place to ourselves?"
Well, Zuko was occasionally good for some things. Things that didn’t always involve pouting, or being the person to start a fire on the grill (although the latter probably was pretty handy). He gave a little nod, standing up from the edge of her bed. “Might as well. I think I’m getting better at it. One of these days I might even win.”
Pansy laughed as she stood to join him. "Maybe." She clapped him on the shoulder as the two made their way out into the living room.
