Satele picked Rowanne up from work. She'd seen that Valarnet post and had thought, well, why not? She knew some people who could use a pet, and she wanted to see how Rowanne reacted. Not to spend more time with her, noooo.
Oh of course not for that reason. Never. Rowanne was happy to see her though as she came out, and had even bothered putting on some lipgloss before she did. "Hey." She said, grinning at Satele. "What's up?"
"I wanted to check out that petshop," She replied, glancing around before kissing her softly. "Silly, I know."
"That's sweet, really." Rowanne kissed back and grinned at her, knowing that nobody in the station would mind. The big tough firefighters might raze her about it, sure, but they'd do the same to anyone who was kissed by their significant other at work, so yeah.
"Great." Satele led Rowanne back to her car - the Audi again, "I know a few friends at work who'd love a bunny."
"Bunnies are adorable." Rowanne grinned. "Let's go look at some bunnies."
"I promise to not tell the big tough firefights you went to look at bunnies." Satele felt relief. They weren't awkward. This was wonderful!
Satele started the car, waited for Rowanne to buckle up, and then took off!
It was closer to Satele's home than Rowanne's, but eventually they pulled into the parking lot. There were a lot of bunnies in the window.
Rowanne approached the window, bending to get a good look at all of the bunnies. "They're so cute." she commented, wrinkling her nose at the bunnies in question. "And they're supposed to be really smart, aren't they?"
"I think so." Satele didn't know all that much about bunnies. She knelt in front of the window.
There were SO MANY bunnies in the window. At the moment, they were cuddled up in a big pile of cuteness, sleeping.
The shop owner could be seen in the window, setting out some after-bunny-nap snacks for them. She patted a few on the head, then realised some people were staring at the bunnies in the window and zoomed away from sight.
"Lets go inside!" Satele stood, taking Rowanne's hand and pulling her inside.
Rowanne headed in after her, and then got a look around the shop and oh wow. This was kind of amazing as petshops went. They all looked so HAPPY.
It pretty much was the most awesome and well taken care of pet shop anyone had ever seen, at least as far as Fluttershy was concerned.
A bird on an open pirch chirped at the two newcomers as they entered. Nearby was a playpen-like bin of kittens playing with eachother. Some dwarf hamsters were camping out in a set of cages with a tunnel system attached to them against the wall.
The shop owner took a deep breath and let it out, then appeared out from underneath the sales counter, "Oh uhm... Welcome to my shop."
"..were you hiding, just now?" Satele tried to smile reassuringly at Fluttershy, careful to not make any sudden movements.
"Well... I uhm... no... no I..." Fluttershy twisted her hands together and then looked down at them and let out a little squeak, "Yes, yes I was."
"You don't need to do that." Rowanne flashed her a smile. "It's okay, really. We don't make sudden movements or anything."
"We were interested in the rabbits?" Satele pointed towards the bunnies, "There's someone I work with who would love one." She could probably be convinced, herself.
The mention of someone being interested in the bunnies automatically improved Fluttershy's mood and she smiled exuberantly, "Oh! Oh that's good, they're so very cute and ... well even though I have someone coming to meet them and help me care for them all, they really do need some good homes."
She bounced on her feet a bit and restrained the urge to hug them both, "Would you both like to hug a few? You won't believe how very soft they are..."
They were very, very soft. Satele picked one up and pet it. She looked at Rowanne and grinned.
Rowanne grinned back and went for another of the bunnies, this one sort of fawn colored and very fluffy. "Is this the right way?" she asked, a little uncertain of what she was doing.
Fluttershy was having so much happy right now. "There's really no bad way to hug a bunnie... I like to hold them like I'm cradling them in my arms... like this."
She picked up a brown bunny and plopped it onto her arm, then held it against her and fluffled her finger along the top of its head. "They shouldn't be too skittish... I handle them all as often as I can so they don't bite or get too scared."
Bunny: Even these guys are less afraid than Fluttershy is
Satele shiffted the bunny in her arm, "You do have a lot of bunnies...I hope you can find homes for all of them."
And the bunnies were adorable! Rowanne picked up the one she'd been playing with now, very carefully, and started patting him/her/whatever gender the bunny was gently. "They're really social." She noted, grinning.
"I really hope so. Someone suggested sending them to the local mental health center. I guess everyone feels better when they hug a bunny, so it's... uhm... well it's not the most terrible idea."
Fluttershy smiled at Rowanne, "They're wonderful companions, too. I've had one for a lot of my life. Angel. He's litter trained, I ... take him with me everywhere. Even on the bus."
"The bus huh?" Rowanne considered the possibilities there. "That sounds like fun. Not exactly something I could do with my horse when I was younger." she joked.
Satele laughed. people taking animals on a bus? That was quaint. She found she liked the idea, "I'm really fond of this guy. Or girl, as the case might be."
Fluttershy nodded her head up and down a few times. These two people weren't so bad or scary, and they liked bunnies, so they were alright, "I have a harness and leash for him when we go out side. You can get away with taking a bunny to most everywhere."
"And well ... all of these ones here in this window... these ones are the females."
Which implied there were more bunnies somewhere else. That thought was potentially terrifying.
How many bunnies WERE there, exactly? The math on that had to be...well...
Satele blinked, doing a quick count, "There have to be at least 20 here. Are there males??"
"Oh yes... uhm... well the males are at home right now, there are about 10 of those..." Fluttershy hung her head, feeling a bit ashamed of how all of this went so horribly wrong.
"He just really liked his female rabbit friend... a lot... I guess."
Satele covered her mouth to hide the grin.
Rowanne giggled as she went to play with another of the bunnies. "That sounds unfortunate."
"It really is... he misses her I think, but I... well I just couldn't let them be together anymore..."
Fluttershy comforted herself by scritching the wee little bunny on her arm a bit. It wiggled its nose in response, and she giggled.
"It's so funny how an overabundance of adorable fluffy things is... well it's such a problem, you know?"
Satele was still trying to hide her grin, "Well there's feeding them, and giving them all the attention they need. And the cleanup can't be easy."
"Oh I bet not." Rowanne was now holding a spotted bunny, lightly patting her. "You're quite pretty but I bet you're messy."
Satele? Quite fond of the one in her arms...
"Oh but that's not really true! I mean... okay, yes, bunnies can be messy, but I litter trained all of these ones. It was ... well it was a lot of work, but litter trained animals are just the only way to really go... you know."
She pointed to Angel, who was hopping around the shop freerange, "I mentioned I think... Angel is litter trained, he only goes in his litter. It's much easier to clean."
"ooh interesting." Rowanne said. "That's really cool. I heard that they're really smart."
"I want this one," Satele stroked the little bunny's ears.
"She's so cute." Rowanne nodded. "And really sweet." Hello, Bunny!
"You're really going to buy one?!" Fluttershy tried to hide her exuberance about this, but it just wasn't easily hidden. She was bouncing on her feet a bit and her voice had inched above a whisper, totally showing how very excited she was.
"That's ... that's wonderful!" She put her bunny friend back in the window pen with her sisters, and clapped her hands together just slightly. Not hard enough to make much of a sound. Sounds scared the animals! "Well, you'll need a starter kit, I can ... you know, collect you the basic things you'll need..."
Glancing at Rowanne, Satele whispered under her breath, "I think I want to take her home, too."
The owner was pretty adorable, wasn't she? You just kind of wanted to talk animals with her and play with that hair and things.
Oh the hair was so gorgeous, Satele would have to agree!
The owner was blisfully oblivious to all of this while flitting around the store gathering together a bunny take-home kit.
"Do you like that spotted one, Rowanne?" Satele nodded her head at her....friend. With benefits.
"She's really cute." Rowanne smiled as she set the bunny down. "Thing is, I don't think I can have a pet like a bunny right now. Not with my shifts and all." She did have a little gecko but it was easy to just mist his habitat and feed him some calcium dusted crickets occasionally.
"Well," Satele glanced at Fluttershy. "What if she stayed with my rabbit. They could be buddies."
Rowanne grinned at that thought. That would be kind of fun and she'd have more of an excuse to visit.
Did they really need an excuse to visit? Okay they probably did. Satele grinned, "Miss, make sure you put together enough for two!"
Fluttershy paused in the middle of collecting some beds for a bunny to sleep in, beamed a smile at the two customers, and nodded her head, "Oh it's... you can call me Fluttershy if you ... you know... if you want to."
Then she went back to flitting around the shop, switching a cage out for a larger one, adding more food and bedding, and etc. She wasn't sure how much these two wanted to spoil their new bunnies, and had also collected a stack of optional items like toys and treats.
"Fluttershy, hmm?" Rowanne grinned. "I like it. " And spoiling was probably bound to happen.
"I can't believe I'm buying a rabbit.." Satele laughed, "I can't even blame you."
"Not this time." Rowanne laughed too. "But it'll be fun."
"You have a strange idea of fun, love." Satele stroked the bunny in Rowanne's arms, then stroked that finger along the woman's skin.
"I like other kinds of fun too." Rowanne winked and then smiled at her. "Just so we know."
What sort of relationship those two girls were in was none of Fluttershy's business, but they were pretty cute together even if they were friends, and she thought there was a kind of gentleness to them both. She couldn't think of a better home for some of her bunnies than that.
She walked up to both of them with a big 'I'm going home!' box that she'd stuffed with litter, "OKay... well uhm... your new friends will have to go in this box for now, it's just for the trip home, but I put some yogurt treats in there for them, and you can keep the lid open in the car so that they don't get scared. You can talk to them and get them used to your voices."
Satele actually blushed. Rowanne was good at making her do that. She slipped the bunny into the box, "Rowanne can hold onto it while we drive. We do need some names."
"Oh good." Rowanne told Fluttershy, smiling at the box. This was exciting! "I can definitely hold them. As for names..."
"There were so many that I just couldn't name them all, myself... I like to name them, just in case you know, but... I'm sure that you'll figure some good names out." Fluttershy nodded, handed Rowanne the box with their two new friends in it, then walked them up to the sales counter.
"I'm sure we'll figure out something suitable," Satele replied, following. "Maybe see what their personalities are first."
"Good point." Rowanne nodded. "We'll probably figure that out soon." While going at it like rabbits themselves.
"That's a good way to handle it... otherwise you get a bunny named Angel who isn't always one," She sounded like she loved that bunny anyway, though.
She started ringing up the things they'd need, "Now this is a pretty basic kit for bunny needs... I mean I have that optional stack over there if you want to spoil them and have the money, but for right now it's just the cage, the bedding, food, dishes and things...This food and litter should last you a month."
"We'll take the optional stack," Satele replied, smiling.
Rowanne leaned over to get a look at what was in the stack , and it looked pretty self explanatory. Oh the bunnies were going to LOVE this.
The shop owner did that thing where she expressed her glee by clapping her hands together, then rung up the optional stack and packed that all up, too.
"They're going to love their new home I think..."
The total was probably just slightly north of dizzying, but the cage was a good solid cage and had taken up most of the bill itself.
Other than books and old dusty things, Satele didn't buy much. She swiped her card without blinking.
Rowanne did a little blink, but well, she'd get food and litter the next time or something, she told herself. It would be a good way to help.
Fluttershy handed over the receipt with a huge smile, "Okay well... congratulations on your new bunny friends! But please don't ... you know, be mean to them or anything. I'd very much like to know how they're doing. Oh and... uhm... I hope you don't ever need it, but here's the card for my vet, you know... just in case."
Satele took the card, "Thank you. I hope we don't need it either!"
"We'll be sure to let you know how they are." Rowanne smiled. "This is the nicest petshop in the area, you know."
"The animals are well cared for and just lovely," Satele added.
"Oh thank you!" Fluttershy ducked her head a bit, "I just love animals... you hear so many horror stories about bad pet shops out here. I think it really matters, you know, where it is that you go to find your pets."
"Oh definitely." Rowanne nodded. "It's better to know they've been treated well. They're so much happier then."
Even if they were just bunnies, they still had feelings. Satele smiled serenely.
As far as Fluttershy was concerned, today was the best day ever. "I'm sure these ones will be very happy."
Satele laughed, and started wrestling the stuff to her car.
Rowanne followed with bunnies in hand. "Thanks so much." She told Fluttershy again. "We'll keep you updated."
"Come back again... anytime! You know ... if you want to. Maybe you could get some fish or more bunny treats or ... just chat." Fluttershy waved goodby to them.
Satele was reminded of a woman she'd met once. They'd talked about fish, and how the woman couldn't keep them alive to save her life, "Maybe just chat. And bunny treats."
"And bunny treats." Rowanne nodded. "I'd like to keep in touch."
And off they went, with their new bunny friends!
