It was so weird that this wasn’t her home anymore. AJ used her key to get in through the front door. She knew Mac wasn’t here because he was manning the stand at the Farmer’s Market, so she assumed she wouldn’t be walking in on anything she didn’t want to see. “Tonks?” She called out, stepping in through the doorway and shutting it behind her.
“You home?”
"I'm here" Tonks called from the living room, moving her wedding folder and all of the new ideas she was looking through onto the table so she could stand to go and greet AJ. She was so excited to see her friend and hear about her honeymoon.
“Hey!” AJ said, moving forward to wrap her arms around her friend and give her a hug. “How’s it going? What did I miss?” She asked, then moved to sit down with Tonks so they could look at the wedding planning stuff. “You didn’t plan it all without me, did you??”
Tonks hugged AJ tightly, "Everything is great" she replied, "You look wonderful" she added of AJs glowing healthy look, "Honeymoon obviously agrees with you" she grinned as they sat, "As if I could even do a quarter of this without you" she said, "I've just been pulling together ideas"
AJ laughed. “Thank you! Aww, I think it does. I wish it could have gone on forever! Though I missed my friends back here.” She said, nudging Tonks with her elbow. “Okay, show me what you’ve got so far. I’ve got my binder out in the car, we can compare notes afterward.”
Tonks smiled, “I’m glad you had such a great time, but I am happy you’re back” she said, before nodding, “Okay, it’s just a few ideas so far” she handed over her binder to AJ to flick through. She loved the apple theme and she’d discovered an almost old country fair style of things which looked beautiful and with the orchard as a setting would be perfect.
“I’m glad I’m back, too.” AJ said, lifting her arm to wrap around Tonks’ shoulders in a friendly hug, then let go so they could concentrate on the album. “Oh, Gosh, Tonks, look at this!” AJ gasped, turning through the pages and ogling at the pictures. “This is absolutely amazing. It’s going to be the best wedding ever!”
“You really like it?” she asked, “I know it seems just like a mess of ideas but I just loved them all so much. And I think it could be a nice theme” she smiled so happy that AJ seemed to approve.
“I do! It’s wonderful!” AJ said, nodding and smiling. “I really love these Apple Candles. I think we should figure out how to make them, and do it ourselves!” It was obvious that AJ was absolutely thrilled about Tonks becoming her Sister-In-Law, and she wanted to be as supportive and encouraging as possible leading up to the wedding.
Tonks was delighted that she’d become AJ’s sister-in-law, ever since they had first met there had been a closeness there. Almost like sisters already. “I was hoping you’d say that. If we can do as much ourselves I think it would make it feel even more special”
“Definitely.” AJ agreed. “What were you thinking in terms of numbers? How many guests, how big is the bridal party?” Whenever she said the word “bridal” now AJ thought of “bridle”... a side-effect from her dreams.
"Oh well fairly small I guess, probably only family and very close friends? Does that sound okay?" she asked, "Bridal party of me, you and the twins"
"That's fine. We can totally do everything by hand then. With only fifty or less, that is totally do able!" AJ thought having things hand made personally would make all the difference.
“Excellent” Tonks nodded a bright smile lighting her face, “We can put the boys to work too. Fred and George will probably quite enjoy helping us make things”
“Oh, I’m sure they would!” AJ said. “I love their shop. Snuck in there and had a nice conversation with the blonde who works the counter. Verily? Though, she looked really, really pale.” AJ shook her head a bit. “She doesn’t have cancer or something, does she?”
“I’m so glad you did, their shop is wonderful” Tonks enthused, she was very proud of Fred and George, “Verity, oh she’s pregnant. Fred said she’s been suffering terribly with morning sickness”
“Oh.” AJ said, giving a little nod. “I’ve never seen a pregnant woman look so sick! Then again, I don’t know many pregnant women.” AJ gave a little shrug. “She seemed really friendly, though. It’s a great little shop. I should get John something from there, next time I have a chance. We could go together for a visit!”
“I hope there’s nothing else wrong” Tonks said, “I’ll ask the twins, they might know. She is lovely. I’ve not had much of a chance to get to know her but she’s always really sweet. Oh I’d like that, you need to get to know them better anyway”
“That sounds like a plan, then. Sometime soon. We can get to know Verity better, too, if she’s there.” AJ said, giving a bright smile. “So, show me the other things you’ve got planned.” She added, turning her attention back down to the book. “For the reception, are you thinking of a sit-down meal or a buffet?”
Tonks nodded happy with that plan, it would be nice to get to know the young woman who worked with Fred and George. Tonks flipped open the book to the catering section, it wasn’t very full. In fact there were pictures of cakes and a card for Audrey’s bakery and that was about it, “I was thinking buffet” she said, looking at AJ somewhat sheepishly, “but I may have gotten distracted by cake”
AJ laughed. “Well, these cakes look amazing. Is that that Bakery on Street? I love that place! We should go together and see if we can have a tasting!”
“Oh that would be great” she agreed, “It came highly recommended and I swear the woman is a baking genius”
“That’s a plan, then!” AJ grinned. “I made the cake for my wedding, and it was a bit of a disaster! I hope it tasted all right. Anyway, best to leave that to the professionals! Sometime soon?”
“It tasted great. I don’t think it was a disaster at all” Tonks told her, “Yeah, I’ll give the bakery a call and set something up. Any days you can’t do?”
“Not that I can think of, no.” AJ said, shaking her head. “I think Mondays and Fridays are best, because things get sort of busy at work during the week... but I can always work an hour later to make time in the morning for a tasting!” She was thrilled with the idea of helping Tonks with all of this wedding stuff.
“Have you considered doing cupcakes instead of one big cake?”
Tonks nodded, “Monday or Friday works, I’ll see what she can do” She was very grateful that AJ was helping her, it would be kind of overwhelming if she was left on her own.
“I did but I like the idea of cutting the cake and all that sort of thing. I could have a smaller cake and then the rest cupcakes maybe?” she pondered.
"Yeah! You can just do the top of the cake, maybe the top two tiers? Then cupcakes. The glory of that is you can have all different flavors." AJ knew not everyone loved chocolate, not everyone loved lemon. "And you could do gluten free, or whatever."
“Oh that’s brilliant. All different flavors would be so nice” she grinned widely, “And catering to different needs would be much easier. We’ll have to ask Audrey if it would be possible” she picked up a pen and grabbed her notebook to remind herself to ask the question.
“Oh, I’m sure it will be.” AJ said, watching Tonks take notes. “But it’s good to ask, anyway. And you should have a vague idea of how many people you’re going to have at the wedding, so that you know how much cake to get.” She added.
“I’ll double check with Mac before I make the appointment and then we’ll definitely have a more solid idea of numbers” she grinned.
AJ clapped, squee’d, then reached forward and wrapped her arms around Tonks for a big hug. “We’re going to be sisters!!”
Tonks hugged back, everything was going to be great. And she was gaining the best sister anybody could ask for.
