I’d love to have you as a client. Who: Lo and Amy Pond When: May 20 Where: Lo’s office What: Meeting Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete when posted
Amy knocked on the door. She was here, on time for her appointment, to meet up with Lo. Apparently, he was something like a God in the world of agents, and she was lucky to have this meeting. Or, that’s what some people made her think when she mentioned that the meeting was scheduled for today. Her portfolio was extensive and her snaps were really good. She felt she could do more than regional, kiddy cosmetics. It was time for something big. Something like Revlon. Maybelline.
Then again, those companies hired actresses. Was it time for Amy to start thinking about acting? She wasn’t sure. She wasn’t sure if she could act. What other options did she have? After being spotted at Disneyland while she was there with John the other day, she was ready to move her career forward. It felt too good to be a one time thing.
She waited for him to answer or beckon her into the room, feeling a little nervous, but excited. This could be a whole new beginning.
Lo finished up with his client and stood up to get the next person from the plushly appointed waiting room. He smiled when he saw a pretty redhead. Even if he hadn’t researched her the night before, he’d have recognized her from her modelling work.
“Miss Pond? Hello, I’m Lo. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Hello, Lo.” Amy said, then hitched a moment. ...lo Lo. It was a bit funny to say like that, wasn’t it? She couldn’t help the grin that spread across her features. “The pleasure’s all mine, really,” she added, holding her hand out for him to shake.
He laughed at that too. Shaking her hand quickly, he ushered her into his plushly appointed office. “Would you like something to drink?”
“Nah, that’s okay. Had a coffee on the way.” She said, moving in and checking out the surroundings. Very plush, very posh. She moved to sit in the chair opposite his desk. “But thanks.” She added, giving him a smile. “So... small talk? Or do we just get to business?”
“Depends on which you’d prefer.” Lo smiled lopsidedly, leaning back in his seat and smiling at her. “Essentially, my job as an agent is to just do whatever I can for you.”
“Well, that’s brilliant. Because I’m looking for someone to do just that.” She gave him a little smirk, then sat up so they could get down to business. “I’m not happy with my current representation. I don’t feel like I’m getting enough work. I know that she’s not putting my name in where it should be, and I want to find someone who will.”
“You should be aggressively marketed, it’s true. What work you have done is stunning, if you don’t mind my saying. Are you looking to act, or would you rather focus on modelling? Crossing over isn’t as shunned as it once was.” Lo did want a drink, and he poured himself a scotch.
A little ball of fur on a dog bed yawned and trotted over to greet the new person.
Amy opened her mouth to speak, but then gave a gasp at the dog that came over and sniffed at her. “Oh my gosh, what an adorable little pup!” She said, reaching one hand down so the dog could sniff the back of it. “Hiya, girl.” She’d been all business just a moment ago, and now she was turning into mush at the sight of the puppy.
Lo chuckled. “One of my clients left her with me. Lucy’s a little sweetheart.” He liked any client who liked Lucy. “But you’re smart and you’re talented. I’d love to have you as a client.”
“All right. Draw up the paperwork.” She said, giving him a smile. “My contract is up with my current representation at the end of the month. Then I’d love to have you represent me. We can talk about the future--like you were mentioning. Acting is a possibility.”
He nodded and reached out on his computer to bring up his boilerplate contract, adding a few edits and smiling. He printed it, then handed the copy over to her. “I’ve got quite a few contacts at production studios, so I’ll be pleased to shop you around, as it were.”
“That sounds perfect to me.” Amy turned to look at the contract, taking note of the terms, the exclusions, all that jazz. Then she grabbed a pen and signed and dated it before handing it back over to him. “I’ve done a good start of this career thing. But I think it’s time for someone else to help me continue on.”
Lo nodded. “Honestly, the reason people need agents is because it’s essentially impossible for one person to network properly in this town and have another job. I get to be a prat and pretend I’m happy to see company assholes so you don’t have to!”
Amy laughed. “You’re hired.” She said, grinning. “Anything to keep me from company assholes so I don’t have to network on my own.” She added, giving him a wink.
“I feel so used,” Lo chuckled. “It’s fortunate that I don’t mind.”
“I daresay you’re used to it by now,” Amy teased a little, giving him a smile. “Is there anything that you can suggest I do in the mean time? Before you start lining up work for me, I mean?” Lo moved to his Rolodex, flipping through it and producing a business card. “If you do want to pursue acting, here’s a teacher who can help out. Never hurts to have a little polish on the natural talent.”
“Great. Thanks.” Amy reached forward and accepted the card, then slipped it into her pocket. “I’ll keep that in mind. It’s definitely an avenue that I’ve considered exploring. I’ll call your coach, dust off my chops, give it a go, you think? And your teacher... will she tell me if I don’t have the cut for it?”
“She’s a bitch, most assuredly. She’ll tell you immediately. Oh, and she’s kind of fidgety, so if she drums a pencil or something, she’s not bored, that’s just what she does.” Lo chuckled. The woman could be a little intimidating.
“All right.” Amy said. She pulled out her phone and took a picture of the business card, then punched the number and name of the teacher into it. “I’ll call her this afternoon.” She set the card back down on his desk when she was finished. “I think you’ll find that I don’t like wasting time.”
“Then I’ll get to work immediately. I know technically it won’t go into effect for a while, but better to start now than later, no?” He stood up, offering to shake her hand and smiling. “I’m looking forward to doing everything I can for you.”
Amy nodded. She stood and reached her hand out to shake his. “I think this may be the start of a wonderful relationship,” she said, in a playful, corny way. “I look forward to hearing from you soon.” She added, then showed herself out.
