Cersei and Wine are OTP

Where: A wine bar
When: Friday night
Rating: R (Language and drinking)

Cersei loved wine. It was impossible to put into words. It wasn’t just being intoxicated - though nearly twenty years with Robert had been more than enough for her to want to be thoroughly sloshed at all times.
There was a taste, and a refinement to the liquid. She could tell the difference between different years of the same vintage. She could close her eyes and just...savor it.
That’s what she usually did.
That’s what she was doing right now.
Vala all but sauntered to the bar, to stand next to a blonde who was sat with her eyes shut, her heels clicking on the tiled floor before she placed her clutch bag on the counter and ordered, “The Bordeaux, 89.”
“Not a bad choice. I’d recommend the 87 though. It was a more refined taste to it.” She opened her eyes, glancing at Vala with a slight smile on her face.
Vala eyed the woman, a slow smile spreading on her face as she contemplated the suggestion. She looked up at the waiter who had paused at the blonde’s words. “Give me one of those instead Ben,” she winked at the handsome waiter who she had gotten to know through her frequenting of this bar. “And one for my newest friend,” she smiled at the woman.
“You shouldn’t have,” Cersei replied, in that ton that indicated she’d been expecting it. Or at least that she felt like she deserved it. Both were very likely the case. The blonde moved with a refinement that gave away her normal status. “But thank you.”
She could be gracious. When it suited her.
“You’re welcome,” Vala smiled, picking up her glass as it was placed in front of her and lifting it towards the woman. “Cheers,” she sipped the wine. “I’m Vala, and you?”
She regarded the woman for a moment, wondering what she should do, and if Vala might be somehow useful. Useful. It was the first thing she looked for when meeting someone, followed by how dangerous they might be, and then how much she’d want to fuck them.
Her voice was quiet, but strong. “Cersei.”
Vala held eye contact with Cersei. She got the feeling that she was dealing with a predator of some sort. Like a lioness hunting antelope in the Serengeti. Her father may not have been brilliant at raising her, but he had taught her how to play poker from a young age and she got the feeling this was a ‘Don’t Blink’ scenario. “New in town?”
“Certainly. I’m taking an extended vacation with the children, while I sort through some...issues with my marriage.” She wasn’t even wearing the ring. She’d tossed it in her dresser drawer as soon as she’d gotten to Jaime’s.
“Ah, good place to come,” Vala smiled. “Sun, sea, sand and champagne,” she winked at the woman before taking another sip. “How many children do you have?”
“Three.” Cersei spoked with a guarded tone, though there was pride in her voice. “Two boys, and a girl.” And they’ll always be her babies, especially Tommen.
Vala nodded slowly and took a sip of her wine. “How are you all settling in then?”
“The children easier than I. I was loathe to uproot them from school, but some things must be done, and they adore their uncles.” Even if she had a particularly cold disdain for Robert’s side of the family, certain appearances must be kept, and it was hard to deny her children anything.
“Ah, so you’re staying with relatives? I wouldn’t worry too much, kids are pretty resilient, they can adapt,” Vala forced a smile, remembering her own childhood. Moving from house to house, looking after herself while her father was either in or out of prison or just not around and a dead mother meant she’d had to pretty much fend for herself despite her grandparents best efforts.
“Mm,” Cersei replied, noncommittally. “I’m sure they’ll adapt, they already heavy. My middle is rather happy to see her Uncle Renly.” She managed to keep a sneer off of her face.
"That's good," Vala smiled. "So where did you move from? Far?" she sipped her wine.
"England," Cersei replied, swirling her wine around in her cup. "I'm not originally from there, but that's where my husband's corporation was based out of."
"Cool," Vala smiled. "Never been there before, bit too far over the pond for me," she told Cersei. "Never had the time to go either," she reminisced.
Cersei smiled, and that warmth came back into her voice. “It’s beautiful. Rainy, but beautiful. You really should try to find the time.”
“A recommendation for a holiday by a beautiful, well-spoken lady? Well I’m never one to turn down a good recommendation,” Vala grinned and raised her glass a little in a mini-toast before taking a sip.
“Flatterer. Do go on, I like to be flattered.” If she didn’t know better, she’d suspect she was being flirted with.
Vala grinned, she was after all a terrible flirt, and while she could on occasion be subtle, flirting just came naturally to her. Take the barman for example, she’d been flirting with him for weeks, even got a free bag of crisps out of the guy and a kiss on the cheek. Next stop: his number, she thought to herself slyly. “What else is there to say? You have impeccable taste in wine and company,” she gestured to herself with a smile. “Great legs, great hair and a voice to strike fear into the heart of any meeker soul,” she winked.
"You're good." Cersei couldn't help the flush that crept into her cheeks. She raised her glass in toast to hide it, then took a sip, feeling inordaintly pleased with herself.
Vala laughed, “I’m sure there’s more I could say but I always believe surprises are a wonderful thing.”
She laughed as well, and finished her glass. Turning to pour herself another, she said, "I don't mind listening."
Vala raised her eyebrow, almost impressed by Cersei’s fairly blatant narcissism. She dismissed the idea with a little shake of her head and a little laugh, “So what is it you do?”
“Host parties, take care of the children, try to keep my estranged husband from destroying our fortune.” She spoke as though she were talking of the usual things.
“Sounds pretty full on,” Vala replied. “But parties huh, colour me intrigued,” she stepped a little closer to her companion, indicating to Ben that she wanted a top of of wine and thanking him with a little wink.
"The sort of thing a good wife is supposed to do," Cersei replied, implying that she was the absolute best of wives. "Mostly it's an excuse to have some more wine."
“There is always an excuse to have more wine,” Vala grinned.
Cersei toasted Vala. “To wine friends.” It was good to have wine friends.
“Wine friends,” Vala agreed, raising her glass. “May there be many of them and plenty of wine for us,” she winked, chinking their glasses together.
