Zach smiled as he walked out of the hospital room and saw her. Tessa, in all her glory, beautiful, warm, and incredible, was there. He had called her earlier and she had come and... he felt a surge of love for her quicken his pace until he snapped his arms around her and hugged her, hard, kissing her then burying his face in her neck. He missed her when he was not around her, and today, well, today had sucked.
“Missed you.” It was a murmur against her.
Tessa had hurried to meet him as soon as she’d heard what had happened. She hated that his work stressed him out so much, and she was definitely going to buy him a packet of gift-cards to go see Elaine Mallory at Evergrace after this. But first...
She threw her arms around him, cradling him close to her heart. She wanted to protect him, empower him. Run away with him.
“I missed you, too.”
A long breath was drawn and let out and then he just breathed her in. And relaxed some more. “Thank you for coming. Thank you for being here.” He murmured the words against her, not ready to let go yet. He was an independant man, but he also loved her and she gave him strength, made him more than he had been before. He was man enough to admit that.
“Of course,” she murmured, kissing his hair, “Where else would I be?” She was an independent woman, but she couldn’t imagine not being there for him. He didn’t tie her down, he gave her a place to come home to.
Zach pulled back then, keeping one arm around her and nodded. “Home, please, and you, and that should make the whole day better.” He grinned at her, eyes dancing. “I love you.” He felt it like the beating of his heart pounding away in his chest.
“I love you, too,” she said, slipping her arm around his waist and steering them toward the door. “Home it is. And then I am going to spoil you for the rest of the night.”
Zach smiled softly. “And that sounds perfect for me. Spoiling from my one true love? Absolutely perfect.” He hugged her and walked with her, and when they were outside his hand around her dipped and groped her butt, just because.
Tessa certainly wasn’t going to complain about the PDA. She did have a ring on her finger declaring that Zach was allowed to grope her as much as he liked. Besides, if it helped to keep other admirers away, so much the better! She only had eyes for one, now.
Zach smiled to her, and walked with her. “Do you know, I think I am the luckiest man alive.” Then he chuckled as he felt the day’s worries melt away. “I need to look for a new job, starting tomorrow. But tonight, I just want to be with you, with nothing but you in my life.”
“Just you and me,” Tessa agreed, hugging him. “Tomorrow can worry about itself, for now.” But she had every confidence that he would find just the right job.
Zach smiled at her, snuggling close on their walk toward her car. Somehow, he knew tonight would be good, tomorrow would be awesome, and after that... he couldn’t even have a clue.
But for now... “What sort of wedding do you want?”
She cocked her head, considering that for a moment. “You know...I’m still thinking about that one. I have a kind of big family, and I’m the only daughter, but I don’t necessarily need something elaborate. We can still have a simple wedding, even if there’s a big crowd.”
Zach nodded. “My family is scattered, so likely it will just be me there.” He smirked at her. “We could always have a simple one for us and then a larger one for family, later.”
“Simple wedding, big reception after a nice, long, relaxing getaway? And then another getaway after, to de-stress from the people-time.” Because they’d probably need it. If life didn’t get in the way and force them to improvise.
“Sounds perfect.” He hmmed as he hugged her close. “Eloping would be silly, huh?” He grinned as he said it.
“Would it?” she asked, snuggling against him for a moment. “I guess it depends on whether you want to see me in a white dress--although technically, I could conjure one of those, any time, any place.”
“We could do a wedding thing for the family and for friends. You know, later. And there is that...” He grinned at her. “I love you and I would wed you in nothing or anything, anytime.”
“We could,” she said, “But would we? Or would we just get caught up in the whirlwind of life in the OC, and just never get around to it?” Or--gods forbid--have to do multiple takes like the ill-fated Potts-Stark wedding? “Would it be better just to do it, once and for all? And is it worthwhile to plan it far enough out that your family could be there, or is life just to crazy? Because, in that case, we could just have a small, intimate wedding, and housewarming party with a few of our closest friends--skip the big shindig and just send out photocards to everybody. I’d be okay with that.”
She touched Zach’s face. “Just say when. I’m quite sure I could have at least a couple of witnesses ready at a moment’s notice.”
“I like that last idea. A small intimate wedding, with everyone invited, maybe even near one of our houses, and then... well, I guess one of us would move in with the other, and we could have a housewarming and reception in one?” He grinned and kissed her. “Me too.”
“Perfect,” she said, kissing him back. “Now we just need to pick a location, and decide whether we’re keeping your place, or mine.” She didn’t really mind, either way. “And a date, so we can send out save-the-date cards as soon as possible.”
“Sounds good to me. Uhm, do you have any dates in mind?” He grinned at her. “And for a location, I was thinking that we could find some place we both like. Not sure where yet, but some place.” He nodded. “And as for places to live? I like your place, a lot better.”
“Well, if it’s nice weather in October, we could have the ceremony right in my back yard,” she suggested. “My father owns the lot, so we could just commandeer the communal gazebo in case of showers. And then everything would all just be right there.”
Zach smiled at her, and nodded. “Sounds perfect. I love you and I love that idea. We could get your friend to perform the marriage.” He nodded.
Tessa pulled out her phone, and looked at her calendar for the month of October. “If we want to do a Saturday, we’re looking at the fifth, twelfth, nineteenth, or the twenty-sixth.” She felt an almost giddy smile steal across her lips. This was going to happen! They still had five months to find Zach a new job, send out invitations, and get everything ready for him to move in, but it was really going to happen! “Do you want to move in before, or after?”
"How about the 26th, and before? Soon, even. I can give a thirty day tommorrow." He felt excitement and hope. this was going to work, this was going to happen, and oh my god it was going to happen soon!
“Perfect.” She flagged the date, and flipped back to June. They could figure out what time of day for the ceremony once they got some other things sorted. “I’ll see if any of my brothers can help out with move, when the time comes.” She could probably get some of her blood brothers, plus Thor and Nate, and that would make quick work of things. “Is there anything else we need to accomplish before we go home and unwind?”
Zach shook his head. “Nope. I am well and truly done for the day, except for you.” He nodded.
He just wanted to be with her, and grinned at her. She was amazing.
She smiled, and leaned in, rising on her toes to kiss him once again. “Well, then,” she murmured, pulling reluctantly away. “Let’s get you home.”
He kissed her back, and smiled. Then he linked his arm with hers and nodded. “Lets. I love you and I just want you.” He nodded.
She smiled, and hugged his arm tight against her body; not letting go until they reached the car. She hoped a new job, and not having to bounce back and forth between his house and hers would be good for him. And for the both of them together. “I have a good feeling about this.”
