Lorna was laying on the roof of her building, smoking a joint and looking at the stars. Mac's phone call had put her in a good mood, and the joint was heping her get rid of all her remaining angst. She sighed, relaxing under her jacket as she watched a plane go by. It was nice to just chill out on her own. Things were too real right now, and she needed peaceful moments like this to recharge.
She didn't mean to fall asleep, but she couldn't fight it for long. Her eyelids were so heavy, and she felt so relaxed. A short nap wouldn't hurt anything.
As soon as she closed her eyes she dreamed. She was on an island. Genosha. The new mutant homeland. She didn't like it there, she wanted to keep Magneto in line, to keep the entire country from taking over the world. She was working to fight him when the first Sentinel approached.
She dashed out to look at it, which meant she had a prime view when the second arrived, then four more, then twenty, then a thousand. She stared in horror as the sky filled with robots. She cast her powers out over the island, and she felt Magneto do the same. They were working together, fortifying each other. They had to stop this, no matter what. Their differences of opinion were put aside for this one important task: they had to save everyone on the island.
The first missiles hit the capital, and Lorna felt Magneto's power waver, her own barely holding. The missiles hit during that moment of weakness, and Lorna felt. . . something. Voices. She tried to focus harder, to reshape the shield they'd formed. More missiles hit, the Sentinels were firing simultaneously. Lorna's powers reached over the entire island, she felt every impact, and every last thought of a victim as their life snuffed out. She started to scream, but she couldn't hear the sound of her own voice over the noise of the dying around her. Pain and fear flooded her senses, and her powers retracted tightly, as Magneto's signal dropped out of her awareness, something that never happened when they were this close to each other.
She couldn't feel the explosions shaking the ground around her, but she could the lady next door as she was incinerated, the wall caving in over Lorna's magnetic bubble.
In the real world similar destruction was happening. It was late at night, so at first nobody noticed when all the buildings on the block started to shake, then come apart at the seams. The metal from the buildings formed lines around her, like iron filings around a magnet.
