Melanie was waiting for Lysander to pick her up. She’d been pleased when he’d asked to see her, even though the circumstances were less than ideal. Still she would be able to see him and put her mind at rest that he was okay. She’d been worried since she heard about his shop. His hard work and beautiful creations all gone in a mindless act. It was terrible to think about.
She was waiting in the living room, glad her roommate was out so Lysander wouldn’t have to deal with stupid small talk or not so subtle teasing. In that sense she couldn’t wait to get out of sharing a place.
Lysander smiled as he arrived, hopeful that this would just be a nice time, and that he could forget the worst of these last few days. With a hand that did not quite tremble, he knocked on her door. He hmmed, and rubbed his face. He shifted the small box he had in one hand to the other one. He had gotten her something, thinking about her.
Upon opening the door Melanie immediately stepped forward and hugged him. “Lysander, I’m so sorry” she told him holding him close. Her head on his shoulder due to their height difference.
Lysander hugged her back, melting into the embrace and was seized by a fierce desire. Without even thinking about it, he could feel himself hardening against her, and shuddered as his arms hugged her tight. “Th-thank you. I... thank you.” He would not act on that. She deserved better.
“How are you feeling?” she asked him, hands stroking the hair at his nape as she held him, “You weren’t hurt were you?” she checked.
“Shaken up, but no, not otherwise. I lost...” He swallowed, then he just held her, and breathed through it. “Months of work. If my commissions hadn’t been at the home workshop, I would have lost it all.” He shook his head.
When he paused she tightened one arm around his shoulders while stroking his hair with the other, wishing there was something she could do to help him. “I’m glad you didn’t lose everything” she said softly, “Will it be long before the shop is fixed?”
“A few weeks. I can work some from home, but for now, I am mostly out of business. I’ll be reimbursed for some of it from insurance, but...” He shook his head. “I’ll be okay, but I really wanted to... I want to see you more.”
She nodded as she listened, he seemed so sad and she felt so powerless. “You can see me whenever you like” she told him, blushing slightly.
“Yeah? Good.” He swallowed, then smiled at her. “Come back to my place.”
Melanie pulled back and nodded slowly, “Okay” she agreed giving him a warm smile.
He blushed and then swallowed. “Then let’s go.” He bounced and kissed her slow and warmly. “A movie and food and you snuggling would really feel good.”
She returned the kiss just as warmly, enjoying the feel of his lips against her own. “Then movie, food and snuggling is what you will have” she told him slipping her hand into his.
Lysander smiled and led her toward his car, and part of him wanted to seduce her to completion. But he wanted... he was confused and tonight was just... he needed to go slow.
Melanie followed him to the car, unaware of his thoughts, she was just happy to be able to provide comfort. And if movies, food and snuggles helped she was very happy to provide them.
A little while later, they were at his house, having stopped to buy food from The Kent’s, a ma and pa run fast food joint, and carrying them inside. “Welcome to my humble abode.”
Which was a nice two bedroom house, the second bedroom completely turned into a studio for his work. The living room was mostly an eclectic collection of odd furniture, from giant character shaped bean bags to huge pillows in various designs, a rocking chair with a refrigerator in it, and other things.
Melanie rather thought his house was wonderful, and told him so. It was like a treasure trove, his furniture was amazing and she thought it reflected his creative mind.
“Knives and forks?” she requested in the kitchen awaiting his direction so they could settle down with their food.
Lysander nodded, pointing to one cabinet. “There, beautiful.” He grinned as he leaned on the table, watching her with warm eyes. She definitely made it easier to relax. Warm, smart, and friendly.
“You’re a good friend.”
She smiled before turning to retrieve the utensils, noticing that he already seemed improved since entering the house. There was nothing like the comfort of your own home, she thought.
Turning back cutlery in one hand she used her other to brush her hair from her face, “I try to be” she told him, blushing just a little.
“Thanks.” He smiled wider. “Thank you for being a friend, and being here. And thank you for... I like... I like being around you.”
She stepped closer and put the things down on the table, “I like being around you too” she replied reaching out to squeeze his hand, “very much”
He gently squeezed her hand back, smiling, shivering a little. And he looked down. His hand was trembling against hers and he annoyedly told it to stop. Sadly, it didn’t listen. Glancing back at her, he swallowed. “I’m sorry.”
Linking his fingers with hers she stroked her thumb along the side of his hand, “Don’t apologise, you have nothing to be sorry about” she told him.
He shivered at her touch and then moved and just hugged her again. He hugged her tight and pressed his face against her hair and almost, but did not quite sob. He nodded then and slowly pulled back. “Thank you.”
She hugged him back almost fiercely, offering what comfort she could through her embrace. When he pulled back she placed her hand on the side of his face, “You’re welcome” she told him, her eyes shining with concern and care.
Lysander smiled softly and shivered under her touch, turning his face to kiss her hand, tears in his eyes. “You are amazing. And you make this life better.” He nodded.
“I’m just glad I can be here for you” she told him, reaching up to wipe away a tear that had managed to slip from his eye, “And that you feel you can rely on me”
He closed his eyes for a moment and smiled softly again. He swallowed. “You’ve been there and I feel I can trust you, and I like you.” He hugged her again. “And you make me smile and hike and it’s good.”
“I trust you too and I like you a lot Lysander” she told him as she hugged him, her hands stroking over his back. “I’m happy that I can make you smile because you make me smile too. We’re a pretty good pair it seems”
“I think so., I think we could be a great couple and I like the idea and I like touching you and... I think I need to wait to do more than like any of it until I can think a little more clearly though. I don’t want you to think I don’t like you, but I can barely think right now.”
He shuddered a little more, heart pounding.
“Hey” she pulled back slightly, “Lysander you’ve been through a huge traumatic event and there are no expectations on my part whatsoever. I am here right now as a friend who wants to help, nothing else” she reassured him.
Lysander smiled softly at her. “Thank you. I like you a lot, I just don’t even know what I can do, what I will do, next.” He smiled softly at her, then hugged her again. “You are amazing.”
“It’s okay, you’ll work it out” she told him with a smile, hugging him back, “Nonsense, I’m just me” she laughed softly, “Now come on we need to get food into you”
“Which is amazing.” And he grinned, then nodded. “Okay, okay.” He settled to the table, and smiled softly. He felt better, a little,. and she was... amazing. Maybe things would be okay. He could see it, a little, now.
Melanie bustled about making sure they had everything they needed before sitting at the table with him, “So did you have a movie in mind?” she asked, keeping the conversation light.
“Maybe something silly? I have a lot of old comedies. Ghostbusters, Princess Bride, The Blues Brothers, and such. What are you in the mood for?” He was curious about her tastes, too.
“Something silly is great” she nodded, taking a bite of her food, “Princess Bride is always great or Labyrinth have you seen that? Though that is less comedy I think and more just awesome”
“I have, but it’s been a long time. It’s in my collection somewhere.” he grinned at her as he started to eat for real. He felt better, and more collected, than he had when she arrived. And that was good.
“Princess Bride wins then” she said smiling, glad to see him eat properly. She was still worried about him but it was good to see him eat and smile.
