The wedding had gone off without a hitch. Lulu had been proud of herself for not crying, something she’d been terrified she’d do, but here they were, in a limo en route to their hotel room, and not one tear had been shed. She was officially Lulu Tesla, and she was as happy as she’d ever been.
Nikola had already poured them each a glass of champagne. He settled back against the seat, having already shedded his cumburbund, tie and jacket. His tuxedo had been impeccable, though he was nowhere near as lovely as she was today.
He reached over to offer her the champagne. “Did it live up to your expectations?”
Lulu took the flute, smiling and sipping slowly. “It far exceeded. What about you?”
“Absolutely.” Nikola leaned over to steal a kiss from his wife’s lips. “It was a beautiful ceremony. An absolutely elegant reception. And my feet are tired and sore from dancing.” ...he hadn’t really done any of that.
“You danced? Who was it with? I’ll have to yell at them, stealing dances from me.” She grinned, leaning against him and closing her eyes. “I’ll rub your feet when we get to the hotel, husband.” She wouldn’t really.
Nikola lifted his arm and wrapped it around her shoulders, chuckling as he cuddled her in against him. He sipped from his wine glass. “Don’t worry about it, Mrs. Tesla. You get every one of my dances for the rest of our lives.”
“Oh, lovely, I have decades of broken toes to look forward to. Thank you, Mr. Tesla.” She smirked, nibbling his shoulder through his jacket.
Another laugh escaped him. “All right, then. No dancing.” He teased, leaning over to press his nose and lips into her hair. “It really shouldn’t be legal, this. It shouldn’t be allowed to be this happy.” Especially for someone like Nikola. This romance-y stuff, this happiness, it just wasn’t like him.
Lulu moved to sit in his lap, grinning and ruffling his hair. “If you’d like, I could tell you that I’m leaving you. For ... I don’t know, maybe the boy I was shagging before you is still single.” She’d liked Gendry.
“You want me to get possessive? You want me to mark you as my own? You know that I’ll never let you go now.” It probably sounded slightly menacing. “I could growl. Show my fangs.”
She leaned back and smiled. “I like your fangs.” She ran her fingertips over his lips, wondering if he knew that she’d never leave him. Lulu was the most loyal of creatures.
“They like you, too.” Nikola said, then lifted his hand to hold hers, kissing her fingertips. “All of me does.”
Lulu smiled, closing her eyes. “I’m shocked you didn’t get cold feet. All my friends told me you might.”
Nikola gave a little tut tut sound with his teeth. “What? Lu, you of all people should know that I may be many things, but a coward I am not.”
“I assumed you had run all of the variables and found me the most logical conclusion,” she teased.
“That, too.” Nikola teased in return. “You should also know that you’re the most logical conclusion for me.” He said, then nibbled her ear.
“Such romantic things you say,” Lulu purred. She tugged at his hair gently, wondering if she could get him to use his fangs on her yet again.
Nikola chuckled. “Can’t help it. You bring it out in me.” And he absolutely would use his fangs. She was pretty healed up from the last time. He needed to figure out a way to make her heal faster between sessions. More iron in her diet, sure, but there must be other ways.
The limo pulled to a stop and the driver climbed out the front to come around and let them out through the back door. They’d reached their hotel.
Smiling, Lulu thanked the driver as she walked out, smoothing out her hair and smiling at her husband as he came to hold her hand. The elevator trip up to their room took far too long, and she couldn’t help but smile at him as they neared the door.
Nikola turned to her once they were close, and swept her up into his arms. He was supposed to carry her across the threshold, right? He fumbled just a moment with the key card, but then got the door open and walked with his wife through the doorway. He moved into the bedroom and set her gently down on the bed. “Mrs. Tesla.”
Squealing loudly, she clung to his neck, expecting him to drop her. But he managed to get her into the room without hitting her head on the door frame, managed to put her onto the bed with some panache. “Thank you, Doctor Tesla.” She grinned, leaning up to kiss him.
Nikola returned her kiss, leaning down and in, taking a moment to rest alongside her. Almost on top of her. They were married now. This was encouraged, expected. The wedding night. Their honeymoon. He wasn’t planning on letting her out of the hotel either here or in Italy.
“Am I allowed to rip this dress off your body?” He asked, mumbling against her lips. “Because I want to.”
She laughed at that. “Yes. I figured you would want to.” Wedding nights were probably the only night where she’d not get irritated at him ripping off her clothes.
Nikola flashed his vamp face for just a moment in excitement, then set to work ripping the beautiful dress off of his wife.
Lulu gasped in surprise, then giggled. “Someone’s wanted to do that since this morning, hmm.”
“I’ve been wanting to do that since I put that ring on your finger.” Nikola said. He bent down to kiss the freshly exposed skin. It would take a lot for him to control himself.
Lulu chuckled, kissing Nikola’s neck. “Well, now you don’t have to wait any longer, husband.”
“Mmmm. Exactly what I wanted to hear, wife.” Nikola responded. And then he didn’t wait any longer.
