Deryn was always a few minutes late to everything. She always forgot something in her apartment and had to go back, or tripped down a few stairs, or... well, really any excuse was a good excuse. Because they were all pretty legitimate.
She half ran half bounced into the coffee shop -- immediately spotting AJ at a table and waving in an overly-enthusiastic fashion. “Hi! I’m here!”
AJ looked up from her scone with a bright grin as Deryn came bounding in. She pushed the plate over to the open chair opposite her own. “Come here! Help me finish this! I can’t eat too much, I’ve got a dress to fit into!!”
Then AJ popped up from her chair and lifted both arms to wrap around her friend. Even though weddings were stressful, she’d been in a fantastic mood over the last couple of weeks. Excitement won over stress. And over the tension building with her due to her lack of sex with her fiance.
Deryn had grabbed a quick coffee before finding her way over to the table. She hugged AJ back tightly (really, she was a great hug-giver), and grinned upon pulling away and plopping herself down in her seat. The scones did look good.
“Goshhh,” she said. “I know we see each other at work, but I feel like I haven’t seen seen you in forever!”
“I know! Well, yer always so busy at work. An’ I’ve got my stand to look after.” AJ said, then slipped back into her seat. “And I’ve been so busy preparin’ for the wedding! I can’t believe it’s only in a couple days!”
“I know!” Deryn gushed out, eyes lighting up. She was really excited for this wedding. “So soon--oh gosh, I should really tell Sam about it.” Well, that was a little embarrassing. Hopefully Sam would just think it was funny though. She’d already gotten him a tie, and she knew he had a suit or twenty. So it wasn’t like he’d be unprepared, right?
AJ laughed. “You haven’t told him about it, yet?” She asked, shaking her head. Then again, she was pretty sure that she’d done something similar to John in the past. Maybe it was a woman’s prerogative. “Let’s hope he doesn’t have something planned for the weekend, then, shall we?”
“He’ll come,” Deryn said, rather assuredly. Sam didn’t tend to do much on the weekends, and most of the time they hung out when she got off of work anyway. It wasn’t that she’d just not cared to tell him, she just got distracted a lot. “It’s okay.”
“Good. I’m looking forward to spending more time with your exceptionally tall man.” AJ said, then gave a little gasp. “Did you hear that Mac and Tonks are engaged now? We’re all getting married, it seems! ...what about you and Sam? Wedding bells on the horizon?”
“What? She is? Oh my gos--what? ME?” Deryn seemed shocked over the very idea. She hadn’t been dating Sam that long! “Really? Hahah!! Do you think??”
AJ laughed. “Yeah! I mean, why not? You’re crazy about him, right? And he is you?” She’d just caught the ‘getting married’ bug and wanted everyone to be a spring bride.
“I guess so,” Deryn said, and her smile said that there was really no guessing about it. “Still. It’s kinda early still...” She had no idea what a decent time frame actually was though, to be fair. “Let’s just worry about your wedding first.”
AJ nodded, then laughed. “Mine first, then Tonks and Mac’s, and then yours with Sam!” She gave Deryn a nudge with her elbow. “I still need to spend some time with him! I don’t know him well at all, and that’s a right shame.”
“I know!” Deryn said with a head bob of a nod. “Soon! Once you aren’t busy with this stuff. We’ll hang out. okay?” She munched on a scone happily.
“Definitely! Maybe when I’m back from our honeymoon?” AJ said, blushing a bit. She was pretty excited, and it showed in her smile. She and John were probably going to spend the whole time in their hotel.
“Heck yeah! Where are you going anyway?” Deryn raised her eyebrows up high, curious.
“I have no idea!” AJ said with a laugh in her voice. “He’s made all the plans. That’s one part of this whole wedding schindig that I left completely up to him, yaknow?” She shrugged gently. “I figure I’m doin’ everything else, he should pick up some of the slack!” She was kidding, really. He’d been a great help. But she was doing a lot of the organizing and planning on her own.
“Well,” Deryn said, doing a bit more nibbling, as she was prone to do. “I’m sure it’ll be really nice wherever you end up. You’ll just have to tell me about it when you get back!”
